does anyone realize how crazy it is to have the actor of a mostly headcanoned queer ship say the fans were never crazy and they were right all along after 10+ years of everyone just absolutely going nuts over the said queerbaited ship

“mostly headcanoned”

we need to study the cognitive dissonance of the people on this website because everyone loooooves to mention November 5th and use Castiel’s love confession as a meme and yet somehow, for some absolutely batshit reason, everyone still cannot seem to grasp the fact that Destiel is canon and the fans have been unequivocally right all along for longer than that but at minimum for 3.5 years

what’s always been noteworthy here — but especially now to people finally paying more attention after Misha’s recent honest comments — is destiel went canon despite all odds, aka despite The CW’s censorship. and that censorship is also precisely why Dean didn’t get to reciprocate, Destiel remains unfinished, The CW never once publicly acknowledged Castiel’s confession while enforcing silence on the writers/showrunner/actors for years, and the ending of the show was a tragedy. not some bullshit of writers being “cowards” or “baiting” or whatever

like… that’s the takeaway here!!! destiel wasn’t ~confirmed~ by an actor man talking about it in April 2024. it was confirmed when it BECAME EXPLICIT CANON after a long and hard-fought battle of censorship that’s always been evident and was only partially won by the writers!! that censorship was even explicitly referenced in the plot of their story!!! the villain of the final season is a metaphor for a controlling TV executive!!! if you even care!!!

I’m sincerely not trying to jump on you OP but I feel absolutely fucking insane when I see posts like this with high note counts and no voices of dissent

this keeps happening in different ways. why does no one have any sense of object permanence about the fact that Castiel the gay angel canonically said “I love you” to Dean Winchester on network television after 12+ years of consistent cohesive queercoding and subtext attached to their relationship and both of their characters. the fans were right all along over 3 years ago and it trended over the U.S. presidential election. I know you all were there

It's incredible how people have been protesting pants and skirts not having pockets but not a single peep is heard over the fact that skirts no longer have underskirts by default. Underskirts (or lining) was a thing when I was a child, no skirt would be made without lining, you didn't have to think and check if your whole ass is visible in a skirt because lining was a thing!!!! Now most skirts don't and it's simply because it's cheaper, fuck the fact that a customer doesn't want their panties shown in broad daylight, it saves a couple of cents on material.

okay so this has definitely breached containment and I want to point something out:

  • Yes slips are a thing but that's beyond the point. It's not just about skirts, it's the fact that garments have lost any quality they used to have and it's only getting worse.
  • Also, telling people to just buy a slip??? We don't tell women to buy a purse if she don't have pockets on her jeans?? Slips are an additional cost we should not be shouldering. They are often expensive, not size inclusive and unlike a lining that's made SPECIFICALLY for the skirt it's sewn onto, a slip might be too long or too short or just not look right.
  • as someone pointed out in the tags even coats and other garments have started to be sewn without lining and the purpose of lining is more than to hide your underwear.
  • The purpose of a lining is to add to the comfort of the wearer; preserve the shape of a garment or add body to it; and conceal construction details and raw edges of fabric, thus giving a finished appearance to the inside of the garment. A neatly applied lining usually adds to a garment quality.
  • I own a wool coat from an Austrian company that no longer exists (thanks thrifting), and it is in impeccable state. It has no tears, not one pulled thread and the shape still holds despite it being probably around 80 years old. Meanwhile another coat I had bought recently at a store already has a gaping hole where the stitches started unraveling. this ISN'T NORMAL!
  • Our clothes should last us, we should stop being ok with the absolute fuckery that is fast fashion and demand garments that will not break apart after two months.

knitting tutorial made by a twenty-something knitting influencer: 18 min long, 12 of those minutes being the intro and a sponsor plug, they show the first few steps of the tutorial at the slowest speed known to man, they show the most important steps at a neck-break speed, they stop every five seconds to talk about what they just did, 40,000 comments filled with questions ranging from insightful to “how do i knit”, filmed with a camera that costs more than a car, the tutorial is incorrect.

knitting tutorial made by a seventy-something grandmother: two min long, filmed 17 years ago, shows you what you want with the skilled patient hands of a beloved deity, made with the world’s shittiest camera, the best video on the fucking internet, four comments and 30 views, you lose the video and never find it again.

two things i’m noticing in the notes:

1. every artist/crafter/cook agreeing that influencers in their communities also pull shit like this

2. ppl shouting out their fav old lady tutorials and being like “i would die for u diane”

anxiety is so insane bc ppl will treat it like it's no big deal, like it's "one of the "easy" mental illnesses" or something, and then you have it and it's insanely debilitating and you lose most of your life and your time and energy to it. yesterday i spent 2 hours sitting in my bed trying to convince myself to go to a water fountain to get some water. one time i got so scared to take a bus i passed out. like sure it's a spectrum and i'm definitely at the more severe end of it but the fact that milder cases exist doesn't mean it's not still a problem? and it doesn't mean that those people aren't struggling too

When you are alone and have a heart attack. What are you gonna do then?

Take a 2 minute break and read this:

Let's say it's 5:25 pm and you're driving home after an unusually hard day's work.

You are really tired and frustrated. All of a sudden your chest pains. They are starting to radiate in the arm and jaw. It feels like being stabbed in the chest and heart. You're only a few miles away from the nearest hospital or home.

Unfortunately you don't know if you can make it..

Maybe you've taken CPR training, but the person running the course hasn't told you how to help yourself.

How do you survive a heart attack when you're alone when it happens? A person who is feeling weak and whose heart is beating hard has only about 10 seconds before losing consciousness.

1. But you can help yourself by coughing repeatedly and very strongly! Deep breaths before every cough. Coughing should be repeated every second until you arrive at the hospital or until your heart starts to beat normally.

2. Deep breathing gives oxygen to your lungs and coughing movements boost the heart and blood circulation. Heart pressure also helps to restore a normal heartbeat. Here's how cardiac arrest victims can make it to the hospital for the right treatment

3. Cardiologists say if someone gets this message and passes it on to 10 people, we can expect to save at least one life.

4. FOR WOMEN: You should know that women have additional and different symptoms. Rarely have crushing chest pain or pain in the arms. Often have indigestion and tightness across the back at the bra line plus sudden fatigue.

Reblogging this, because it is helpful information, BUT, with a couple of additions and caveats. First, this:

And then this:

And yes, as you get older, these are things you actually start thinking about, and worrying about, so I always try to stay informed.

Important for younger people too!! I was in my 30's, sitting in a waiting room, feeling sorry for myself because I was the youngest person at the cardiologist's. Then a kid who couldn't have been more than 16 walked in....

One of the most dangerous mistakes people make about their health is believing that a health problem doesn't happen to people "their age".

Need help finding a Destiel fic.

It was on AO3, Dean is a gym rat and meets a different hookup each day of the week. His Thursday guy falls through and he starts meeting Castiel on Thursday. Obviously he falls hard and it completely blows his unattached lifestyle.

Anyone know this one???

EDIT: Found it! https://archiveofourown.org/works/31406270

In 1990, the high school dropout rate for Dolly Parton's hometown of Sevierville Tennessee was at 34% (Research shows that most kids make up their minds in fifth/sixth grade not to graduate). That year, all fifth and sixth graders from Sevierville were invited by Parton to attend an assembly at Dollywood. They were asked to pick a buddy, and if both students completed high school, Dolly Parton would personally hand them each a $500 check on their graduation day. As a result, the dropout rate for those classes fell to 6%, and has generally retained that average to this day.

Shortly after the success of The Buddy Program, Parton learned in dealing with teachers from the school district that problems in education often begin during first grade when kids are at different developmental levels. That year The Dollywood Foundation paid the salaries for additional teachers assistants in every first grade class for the next 2 years, under the agreement that if the program worked, the school system would effectively adopt and fund the program after the trial period.

During the same period, Parton founded the Imagination Library in 1995: The idea being that children from her rural hometown and low-income families often start school at a disadvantage and as a result, will be unfairly compared to their peers for the rest of their lives, effectively encouraging them not to pursue higher education. The objective of the Imagination library was that every child in Sevier County would receive one book, every month, mailed and addressed to the child, from the day they were born until the day they started kindergarten, 100% free of charge. What began as a hometown initiative now serves children in all 50 states, Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom, mailing thousands of free books to children around the world monthly.

On March 1, 2018 Parton donated her 100 millionth book at the Library of Congress: a copy of "Coat of Many Colors" dedicated to her father, who never learned to read or write.

btw the thing she couldn’t ignore was someone calling her out for saying anti-depressants/hormone therapy are only perscribed by lazy doctors

Update:

J.K. Rowling is apparently now filing a defamation lawsuit against someone who made fun of her for saying this, which means its time to spread this like wildfire!

sure would be a shame if- oops, that's the reblog button!

this is by far my favorite safety/warning sign btw. they really went off with this one

No cuz I fucking love this sign. It’s not an actual barrier so it’s not like some sort of challenge it simply says “fuck around and you will find out”

Ohohoho I LOVE “fuck around and find out” signs, especially the really dramatic and ominous (but true) ones

(Context for the last one: it’s a WWII era sign posted around the soldiers’ washroom mirror, warning them to never discuss military plans in places where civilians could hear them and report back to the enemy, e.g. in restaurants and pubs in the country. “Loose lips sink ships”.)

I also love these two, which I would place in the category of “You already fucked around, now you’re about to find out.”

Aerated water is fucking scary. It's water that has a fuckton of gas in it, which reduces the buoyancy to the point where you will immediately start to sink if you fall in.

ive been collecting these recently and wanted to add some of my favorites

Official ominous signs

I enjoy how a lot of these are clearly the result of exhasperated people workshopping the problem and coming to the conclusion that you need to explain in detail exactly how dire it is. I love the testimonial by the rescue diver on that Gorge Regulations sign. Especially the mention how he's the one recovering the bodies.

Also love the sign warning of one of the steepest skiing slopes in the Alps with an illustration just how steep it is when you stand on it, and a warning that the slope “does not forgive any skiing mistakes”. Which is true, because once you fall, you fall essentially all the way down.

There are also several warning signs on the way there, including one along the lift that takes you to the slope. Unsurprisingly, every year people go on it that really shouldn’t, and get hurt.
