"nothing is real atoms never touch each other youve never touched anything in your life" ok. well when i pet my dog he is soft and when he licks my hand it is wet and that is far more real to me than whatevers going on at an atomic level

what my atoms are doing is their fucking business man i'm busy trying to stop my dog from eating tissues directly out of the box

nuclei don't touch, but the nucleus is not the core of reality. reality is made of electrons dancing. reality is made of bonds.

you pet your dog and the atoms that are you brush up against the atoms that are him, and the electrons that are you press into the electrons that are him, and both of them change their movement.

electrons of course are not really particles and do not really move.

you pet your dog and the electron-orbitals of your skin overlap with the electron-orbitals of his fur, and both are changed by the contact. you are not made of little motes floating alone in a void. you are a single unfathomable chord formed of a trillion vibrations, and so is he. and the note you play is changing at every moment by what you touch and how you breathe, and so is his. and atoms do not really have edges, and to touch is to interact, and when you put your hand on your dog the universe does not know that you are separate. the song expands to hold you both.

HEY ARTISTS!

Do you design a lot of characters living in not-modern eras and you’re tired of combing through google for the perfect outfit references? Well I got good news for you kiddo, this website has you covered! Originally @modmad made a post about it, but her link stopped working and I managed to fix it, so here’s a new post. Basically, this is a costume rental website for plays and stage shows and what not, they have outfits for several different decades from medieval to the 1980s. LOOK AT THIS SELECTION:

OPEN ANY CATEGORY AND OH LORDY–

There’s a lot of really specific stuff in here, I design a lot of 1930s characters for my ask blog and with more chapters on the way for the game it belongs to I’m gonna be designing more, and this website is going to be an invaluable reference. I hope this can be useful to my other fellow artists as well! :)

Did you find this helpful? If you’re able, maybe buy me a coffee please? :D

And I didn’t know you whittled. There’s a lot you don’t know about me. Actually, that’s kind of it.

Hey guys!

I’m a black artist and mostly do concept work and character design.

I consume a lot of indie and self-published media, and I keep noticing some not great trends from what I assume are well-intentioned artists. I figure the best way to help is to educate, so

Lets get into racist character design!

Before I start this post, here is a disclaimer:

First thing we’re gonna do is go over features. I see a lot of artists say that black people “don’t work” in their style, so using picrews I’ll create a badly drawn black person, and then a properly drawn one in the same style:

“But wait!” I can hear you saying, “That’s not the same hairstyle!” And you’re right, it’s not. But the reason for that is that afro hair does not and will not move or fall in the same way as straighter hair. In some cases, these hairstyles can be imitated with braids or locs though, like the example below.

Another example, using this picrew:

Also, don’t be afraid to push it farther and make them darker with curlier hair and fuller features.

Now with this picrew:

Next, let’s talk character lineups. You can do black characters with weird and unusual features. You can do black characters that have dyed hair or light eyes. But if all your black characters look unusual to the point that none of them resemble a black person you’d likely encounter in real life, that’s when it definitely becomes an issue. Or even worse, your black character is very unusual looking and is the only black character??? Do not do that.

Some character line up examples, using this picrew:

Last thing! I’m a huge supporter of the natural hair movement and it really baffles me that people seem to struggle to give black characters interesting hairstyles because there’s honestly SO much you can do with afro hair.

With this in mind, I used those same 3 picrews to make some collages of really cool hairstyles with black hair.

fat bodies, fat anatomy, and how body fat tends to work should be taught as standardly as skinny anatomy and how muscles work in art courses. fat bodies are not an outlier. fat bodies are not a minority and theyre not abnormal or wrong. fat bodies are normal and they belong in art teaching spaces as commonly as other anatomy, because fat bodies ARE normal anatomy. people have diverse bodies and there will never be a single body type that encompasses the "normal body type"

tldr; fat anatomy should be taught as a staple in art courses just like any other anatomy. this is fact <3

ive gathered various links to refs so that people who see this can actually access helpful info on how to draw fat people. first and foremost though, using references will always be the biggest help :)

to the woman who just yelled "WHAT THE F***" in the middle of a grocery store because she saw me standing up from my wheelchair to grab a bottle of soy sauce in the top shelf:

just a reminder: people use wheelchairs for numbers of reason, some wheelchair users are not paralyzed, it's called ambulatory wheelchair and it's a very common thing. it's not funny to shout or call out someone for this, nor to say "it's a miracle!" and stuff like that. It's none of your business. Wheelchair users do not own you an explanation.

FAKE TRANS DOCUMENTARY/ORGANIZATION: Here’s the ridiculous story about how extreme the far-right is willing to go to dehumanize trans people. I was nearly tricked into doing an elaborate anti-trans documentary by Matt Walsh’s film crew this month. It started with an email from the “Gender Unity Project” a couple weeks ago. They claimed they were doing a film on the trans community and gave me names of well-known trans individuals and surgeons they had interviewed. It all seemed normal at first. I even talked to the producer (Makenna Lynn Waters) on the phone beforehand. She sounded like a well-meaning cis film graduate who was just curious about the trans community.

When we chatted, she claimed the documentary was self-funded. I was suspicious because she had finished college recently, but figured she was just rich (who has that kind of money?). Later, she told me the individual they were interviewing in Chicago had suddenly canceled (this happens, but is still sus). Then she offered to fly me to Nashville: where Matt Walsh lives. They finally sent me a release form this morning, which strangely didn’t have the name of the company on it. So, I looked up the Gender Unity Project. It used a registered agent to shield the company owners. It’s dubious but sometimes registered agents simply make it easier to incorporate. Then I looked Makenna Lynn up. Her name didn’t show up anywhere.

After some heavy Google searching, I realized she used her middle name as her last in our emails. I found the IMDB page of her real name (Makenna Waters). It turns out she’s a producer for the Matt Walsh show! That’s not a red flag: that’s a gun to your face. If you’re not familiar, Matt Walsh is a white supremacist who makes a living denying the basic humanity of trans people. She wasn’t just a producer for his show: she worked on over 200 episodes of it! I finally found her Twitter, which features videos of Walsh berating protesters and Ben Shapiro doing his usual BS.

I decided to look closer into the “Gender Unity Project.” After searching its state registration number, I learned it was registered to Justin Folk, a white supremacist documentarian who works for Matt Walsh and Prager U. His initials (jrkfolk) were also listed in the release I thankfully refused to sign. So, if you’re contacted by these slimy assholes, don’t respond. The last thing we need right now is another “gotcha” anti-trans documentary! Stay alert and take any media personalities with a grain of salt.

And they say we’re the ones tricking people?

There’s a song that’s been proven to reduce anxiety by 65%. It’s called Weightless by Macaroni Union, and it was specifically designed to slow your heart rate, reduce blood pressure, and lower cortisol levels. It’s so effective that it’s dangerous to drive while listening to it because it can make you drowsy. Source Source 2 Source 3

I knew within seconds that I’d heard this before.

Sound therapists and Manchester band Marconi Union compiled the song. Scientists played it to 40 women and found it to be more effective at helping them relax than songs by Enya, Mozart and Coldplay. Weightless works by using specific rhythms, tones, frequencies and intervals to relax the listener. A continuous rhythm of 60 BPM causes the brainwaves and heart rate to synchronise with the rhythm: a process known as ‘entrainment’. Low underlying bass tones relax the listener and a low whooshing sound with a trance-like quality takes the listener into an even deeper state of calm. Dr David Lewis, one of the UK’s leading stress specialists said: “‘Weightless’ induced the greatest relaxation – higher than any of the other music tested. Brain imaging studies have shown that music works at a very deep level within the brain, stimulating not only those regions responsible for processing sound but also ones associated with emotions.” The study - commissioned by bubble bath and shower gel firm Radox Spa - found the song was even more relaxing than a massage, walk or cup of tea. So relaxing is the tune, apparently, that people are being Rex advised against listening to it while driving. The top 10 most relaxing tunes were: 1. Marconi Union - Weightless 2. Airstream - Electra 3. DJ Shah - Mellomaniac (Chill Out Mix) 4. Enya - Watermark 5. Coldplay - Strawberry Swing 6. Barcelona - Please Don’t Go 7. All Saints - Pure Shores 8. AdelevSomeone Like You 9. Mozart - Canzonetta Sull’aria 10. Cafe Del Mar - We Can Fly

One of the comments suggests pairing it with Rainymood.

The combined calm might be weaponized with adding this song and some crackling fire.

When I was literally unable to sleep at all, my senior at work gave me this song to listen to!

My wife uses this song when she’s having near-meltdown levels of anxiety right before bed and it helps her relax and shed some of that stress enough for her to attempt to lie down and sleep.

For those having a rough moment

when I was so sick I wanted to die, this helped me relax enough to, uh, not die

jokes aside… fond memories

I trained myself to relax to this music. It resets my heartrate. A gift.

Ppl saying martin and guillermo are the same archetype of character are wrong because guillermo is 10000% more fucked up than martin blackwood is. Martin is in the "i could fix him" quart and guillermo is all the way at the other end in the "i could make him worse slash help him(kill people)" if they ever met martin would be horrified and appalled at the things guillermo has done for his boyfriend. He'd be like "wait you've KILLED PEOPLE. VOLUNTARILY. NOT OUT OF SELF DEFENSE" and guillermo will be like "well hes gotta eat anyway :("

hi, i'm denseboy!

i'm a bi and trans black man, and for the past few years, music has been my favorite way to express the things i didn't think anyone else could relate to.

i've covered songs by other people on youtube, but most importantly, i love making my own music.

last year i finally released some songs of mine, and something really cool i've found is that people actually like listening to it. and now it's kind of something i want to do forever.

it would mean a lot if you could help support more LGBTQ+ musicians like me by listening to my music, and spreading the word around!

also this is my most recent song if u wanna listen <3

thank you, and if you're interested, you can find my music and other content here!

Are we as the trans community ready to acknowledge that sometimes gender just straight up changes?

Obviously this doesn’t apply to all people, but for some trans people they were fine being their AGAB until they weren’t.

I used to follow an enby who proudly identified as a woman for years before one day they just went “actually… it changed. I’m not vibing with that any more. I was a woman, but now I’m not and I’m ready to open a different chapter of my life.”

Sometimes people who are genderfluid don’t have fluctuating dysphoria, and just have a changing gender.

Sometimes non-binary people will find that their masc/femme alignment changes.

Sometimes people who were binary feel more non-binary, or oppositely binary.

Are we ready to normalize this too?

YES can we acknowledge that the “born this way” narrative (while true for many of us) is kinda just something we told cishets so they would stop telling us to change

i think as people with complicated genders and shit we have this desire to make a cohesive narrative that cisnormative society will accept, even at the expense of our own self-discovery. i think this also plays into the larger idea of “why should we make cis people comfortable with our existence?” why try to fashion a consistent narrative for the very society that labeled us as other in the first place? we do not need to be explicable

Talking about this more would also help people who have DEtransitioned. Sometimes a person transitions because they really were a man or woman or nonbinary at one point, and then that changed again later and they started reidentifying as their assigned gender. And that's FINE.

But it's an experience that just isn't talked about and leaves a lot of detransitioned people feeling lost and alone, like they've been tricked or they're betraying the people who supported them or even that they're betraying the person they were. A lot of those people end up turning to transphobic communities, like radical feminism, to try to find reasoning behind their experiences and to understand why they've found themselves where they have, because they've been told by both cis and trans people that gender is static and unchanging.

Gender changes. Sometimes it's a slow change, that happens over years. Sometimes it's fast and you just suddenly realize "oh, that isn't who I am anymore." Sometimes you go through things that change your perspective of yourself, your identity, your idea of gender entirely. Sometimes you go through something that has left you unable to connect with gender or that has changed you on such a fundamental level that you are someone entirely different from who you were.

People are just always changing, always shifting, always growing. Our genders reflect that too.
