You know, it’s only just really hit me how hard it’s going to be for Serena to return to Holby. After all, she left Holby to try and heal from the loss of her daughter - a loss that drove her into a deep depression and near breakdown.
Then, shortly after she’d left, the junior doctor who she basically bullied in her grief, despite at the heart of it, actually liking, was killed.
And now, her best friend (bar Bernie) and confidante, Raf, has been killed.
So, when she walks back through those doors, she’s not only going to have to bear the burdens of her own ghosts - in returning to the place her daughter died, but she’s also going to have to face the emptiness where Raf and Jasmine once stood. That’s a headfuck and a half.
(I deliberately didn’t mention Bernie’s departure, because it’s not irrevocable, and therefore not carrying anywhere near the same weight of loss).
