❝ Oh the coy move, never gets old. Not as cute when a men does it ❞

“I think you could pull it off better than most. You do know you look good, yes? I can’t imagine you ever not knowing but if you truly need a remember I guess I could indulge you.”

“Excellent. Ready to part the crowd with me?”
“Indeed,” Katherine agreed looping her arm through his before beginning to walk towards the bar area. “So were you one of those who seemed to be trying to avoid this thing entirely because if so you are not alone. It seems a good chunk of the crowd would rather be elsewhere.”

For once she wasn’t the one serving the drinks at a function like this. She arrived solo, but it was no bother to her. As her eyes surveyed the room, she tried to figure out who was who on first glance only to give it up and let the night take its course. Vivian did however spot the bar, so naturally the brunette made a beeline for it, keeping her eyes peeled for anyone that might approach.
The all too familiar form of her best friend caught her gaze and Katherine took a moment to appreciate her friend’s outfit. She loved seeing all the dresses around her and checking out the current trends. It would always help with her line to know what people liked to wear. After a brief pause she approached the bar at her side and looped an arm around Vivian’s waist. “Well if it isn’t the prettiest lady at the ball. Do you have a date I should be worried about or do I get you all to myself?”

“If I say I lost track of time, would you believe me?” Lucas asked, walking into the main room, “or at least let me buy you a drink to make it up to you?”

“I suppose it wouldn’t hurt to believe that,” Katherine mused in answer with a gentle smile. “Although I also wouldn’t say no to a drink.”

“Oh..—kay. Someone should really stop him from going to the bar again. If he tries that again he’s definitely going to break something.”

“I suppose I can try,” Katherine mused as she realized someone else was watching the man as well. Approaching him she placed a hand on his arm turning him to face her. As soon as her eyes held his own the compulsion took over. “Sir you really should sit down.” He obeyed with a nod that almost sent him into another drunken spin and she guided him to a seat before turning back to face the other woman. “Well I don’t know if it will last but he’s sitting for now.”

“I do that quite a lot myself, taking more than my stomach can handle, I grew up in a big family though, so if you took too little, you wouldn’t be able to grab seconds.”

“That is a very good reason to do so. I grew up with two sisters myself and it was like eating with birds. They always made me feel insecure when I ate.”

“I don’t really want to be alone, but I also don’t really wanna be here and ruin everyone’s night. I’m sorry.”

“I’m quite content keeping you company for awhile. I don’t think I really have anything to ruin. This isn’t really my sort of thing. I do enjoy seeing all the different clothing but aside from that I’m not sure what else I would do.”

“Well – thanks, really. Just not in the mood to get up and deal with possibly falling over, not quite sure where Tripp went so that option went out the window.”

“You’re welcome and it’s no problem at all. From the looks of this crowd he probably went off looking for you and got lost. I’ll be right back,” Katherine concluded as she stood and wandered towards the bar. It took a bit since the line was long at the moment but as soon as the drinks were in hand she moved back to the table she was sharing with the other girl. “And here you are. Hopefully it does it’s job right.”

“The dilemma is that if I take my heels off, I’ll drown in this dress and my feet feel as though they are being stabbed by pins. The only solution is some champagne, but I can’t seem to get up to get some so if you’d so kindly get some for me, I’ll make sure to pay for the next two rounds of whatever you’d like.”

“I think I can handle it without the payment needed. I was about to make my way over there for a drink myself.”

“Thank god, the thing was staring me down from across the room,” she said with a chuckle as she took hold of the cupcake carefully.

“It did the same to me which is why I grabbed two in the first place. Then I realized my eyes were more hungry than my stomach.”

Vada found her a corner to sit in, after Holden as his motley crew had told her she needed to come for not only her sake but her daughter’s reluctantly agreed. Although she found it impossible to actually bring herself to find some motivation to enjoy herself. So she found her a spot and sat there, watching everyone until someone sat down close to her. “You don’t wanna be here either?”
It was a bit harder to find people in the sea of masks but eventually Katherine spotted a familiar face on the outskirts. She’d moved to sit at Vada’s side and meant to speak before she was cut off. “Actually I don’t mind either way. I was having trouble finding anyone I care to interact with though and then I saw you.”
