Your blog was hacked: what to do?

If you see weird pics of ladies with dubious links posted on your blog out of the blue, here’s a step by step way of stopping this and preventing it from happening again that I think might work.

Important : this only works if you can still access your blog!

Changing your password is important, but it won’t do you any good if your hacker still has an opened session on your blog and can still access it. So the first thing you wanna do is close your hacker’s session.

For that you need to go in your blog’s settings:

image

On the new page opened, scroll all the way down. There, you can see something called “Active Sessions“. The first and oldest one (”current session” in green) should be yours, the new one should be the hacker’s session. To close your hacker’s session, click the gray X next to it.

Now that their session is closed, they can’t access your blog anymore unless they enter the password again.

So don’t lose time, go all the way back up and change your password immediately. Make also sure your hacker didn’t change your email address.

Now you should be safe from your hacker. But it won’t prevent you from getting hacked again.

If you really want to be safe from hackers, you should turn on the “Two-factor authentification” option (on the same page).

It requires you to enter your phone number, which is a bummer. But if it’s turned on, everytime you wanna log on (so not if your session is already opened, but only if you log off and try to log on again), it will send a code on your phone that you’ll have to enter (in addition to having a password).

That way if someone tries to hack you again, even if they get your password right, they won’t be able to enter your blog without having that code.

There it is. I hope it will help some of you, since I see more and more people noticing blogs being hacked

with light about the massive wave of bot-hacking i’m seeing, please do this and keep your blog and all of your personal information secure!

i don’t know who needs to read this but remember that fandom is a hobby. it’s supposed to be fun, not an obligation.

you don’t have to post on a schedule, or update wips that don’t inspire you.

you don’t have to fill all the prompts you get.

you don’t have to write long things because you feel like this fic is too short.

remember that we’re all here to have a good time. when you find yourself getting stressed by fandom stuff, just stop, breathe and think. what’s the rush? is the world gonna end if you don’t work on this fic / art / edit / blog today?

and if anyone tries to make you feel bad about taking it easy, they can kiss my appletaters. we are doing this for free, because we love it.

just come here, let’s sit and chill for a bit.

My advice to people, but especially kids, who are invested in celebrities, be they actors, musicians, bloggers, youtubers, authors, whatever, is to keep your distance. No matter how happy their content makes you, no matter how strong the pull of a special interest/hyperfixation/obsession might be, it’s important to step back every so often.

Do you find yourself following them on all forms of social media? Do you follow their friends and family, who might not even make content themselves? Do you research their lives? Step back. Just because they are famous doesn’t mean it’s okay to engage in stalking behavior.

Do you find yourself getting anxious if you miss a video, or they upload off schedule? Step back. I know they can help you through dark times but you can’t rely on them all the time.

Would you be devastated if they turned out to be a not-so-nice person? Step back. You can only trust them as much as you trust any stranger. Don’t see yourself up to be shattered if they fall off that pedestal you put them on.

No matter how much somebody interacts with their audience, the relationship is still parasocial. Just keep that in mind. Don’t put all your trust in a stranger. It’s okay to enjoy these people and their content, but keep your distance and step back.

Think about this the next time you even dare suggest an artist lower their prices.

Me when people at cons say $5 sketches are ‘too expensive’ or are upset that I now charge $10 for full figures.

Honestly I have never seen a tumblr artists’ commission prices and thought “too expensive.” I understand it’s a fan community, but when the average retoucher charges 100$/hour and artists are charging like, 20$ max for like a FULL COLOURED THING PERSON THING??? i’m like WHAT??? I CAN”T EVEN FUCKING DRAW A BLOB that would take me 500 years why is it 20$ and i just sit there bein glike. so. what if i bought 20. or whatever. the point is I think tumblr should look at creative services and what they charge. I shot casual grad photos as a favour for someone and it was 70$/30 minutes. FANDOM ARTISTS ARE GIVING IT TO YOU EASY LSKDJFLSDKJ give them your money as fast as you can i don’t think this is sustainable nad you should get it while stocks last.

please remember that tipping someone when you commission them is absolutely something you can do! artists have to set their prices to what the market average is on this site (which is woefully low) so tipping an extra £5 or £10 can really help. consider it next time you commission someone.

Hey Misfits/GBG fic writers:

Just a reminder, especially if you’re Cis, please do not write anything fetishising Toby’s transness.

This especially includes using her transness as a plot point for angst.

Writing things about her being loved and accepted is fine, but sexualising or angsting her transness is NOT.

Toby is a real person. Using her real life struggles on such a huge issue as a plot point meant for entertainment is not okay.

If you’re writing something and you wonder “hmm, is this okay to publish?”

Don’t.
