I had a dream that Pepsi released a candy called “Pepsi Particles” that were caviar sized, spherical pepsi logos that fizzed in your mouth. The packaging was a blue and silver pouch with a pepsi logo surrounded with rings like an atom, there were crystal pepsi and pepsi blue flavors as well. I can’t stop thinking about them.

Whipped up a concept of more candy style packaging, rather than the oreo pack look that he drew.

This response still haunts me.

The more I reflect on it the more I believe this person knows me and knew this minimalist take would particularly piss me off. The fact this is on a throwaway account with this being their only post really enforces that.

So who did this? You can come clean now, I promise I won’t get mad, please.

“It seems to me that culturally we’re all so acclimated to being disingenuous and mildly manipulative in social settings and calling that normal and acceptable. As a result, many of you are severely disconnected from authentic connections with others.

“Afraid to say ‘this is how I really feel’ or ‘this is what I really think of this/you,’ instead you speak and act in a cryptic coded language under a veneer of straight up falsehood. Doesn’t that get exhausting? We are certainly exhausted by it.”

For real, so much of "normal" neurotypical communication revolves around arbitrary rules, lying, passive aggression, obfuscation, manipulation, and mind games. Ableist NT people love to disparage neurodivergent people for being socially awkward or not picking up on subtle messages, but those same NTs never pause to reflect on glaring deficits in their own communication and comprehension skills. Maybe instead of forcing all ND people to play by all the nonsensical unwritten rules of social interaction that NT people made up, NT people can make an effort to understand ND people who speak plainly and honestly.

Masterlist - Mesmerize - OVERWORK - finished

Sherlock x Reader

setting: between THOB and TRF

not excactly canon

summary:

A Trojan that drives Scotland Yard mad brings you after more than ten years unprepared back to Sherlock. The feelings that are triggered in him again and threaten to tear him apart cause Sherlock to escape into drugs again and vanish out of sight. Since Mycroft and MI-6 are unable to find him, you are forced to use your AI ARES for the first time, which has tracked his location in a very short time. Despite all the memories of you and all the feelings that Sherlock just won’t let go, he decides to cut you out of his life. Until one day you are kidnapped and the trojan is only the beginning of something bigger.

A game in which there can only be one winner.

Sometimes I’m looking for something online - often “how to” articles - and I want to filter for - like - a website that was clearly built in 2010 at the latest, which may or may not have been updated since then, but contains a vast wealth of information on one topic, painstakingly organized by an unknown legend in the field with decades’ worth of experience. I don’t want a listicle with a nice stolen picture in a slideshow format written by a content aggregator that God forgot. I want hand-drawn diagrams by some genius professor who doesn’t understand SEO at all, but understands making stir-fries or raising stick insects better than anyone else on this earth. I don’t know what search settings to put into Google to get this.

The search engine calculates a score that aggressively favors text-heavy websites, and punishes those that have too many modern web design features.
This is in a sense the opposite of what most major search engines do, they favor modern websites over old-looking ones. Most links you find here will be nearly impossible to find on a regular search engine, as they aren’t sufficiently search engine optimized.

“It is a search engine, designed to help you find what you didn’t even know you were looking for. If you search for “Plato”, you might for example end up at the Canterbury Tales. Go looking for the Canterbury Tales, and you may stumble upon Neil Gaiman’s blog.

If you are looking for fact, this is almost certainly the wrong tool. If you are looking for serendipity, you’re on the right track. When was the last time you just stumbled onto something interesting, by the way?

I don’t expect this will be the next “big” search engine. This is and will remain a niche tool for a niche audience.“

Hope truly is a fantastic villain, pure conservative terf. Knows how to dress and act young and understanding how to make you forget your dealing with an authority figure who wants order no matter what.

Starts the season off by going after Otis and Maeve to nip the 2 obvious trouble makers before moving on to focus on the black, queer and neurodivergent students, and there’s a clear intent in how she talks to the 3.

She does not respect Cal as a non binary person and sees them as a women, which makes the continuous assaults clearly misogynoir on top of transphobia and erasure.

She dismisses and then initially sees Jackson as useful particularly for image purposes before dumping him because of Jackson’s own sense of justice getting in her way.

Viv is the most useful for a lot of the season because as a neurodivergent coded character Viv is vulnerable to authority due to how isolating it can be, as well as her desire for structure and good prospects. Hopes treatment of Viv gets so comfortable that she finally says some gross stuff right before the open day. This ultimately destroys her plan cause us neurodivergent folk have a strong sense of justice when rattled, when something is wrong we hate it.

Then there’s the sign hanging scene. Truly monstrous attempt to tamp down on the school, force every student to follow the rules by directly separating the black (cal) queer (cal, lily, Adam) and nuerodivergent (it’s coding but lily and Adam have a lot of coding) students and labelling them as outcasts and freaks.

This all doesn’t work mainly because the students destroy hopes power the only way you can: make clear that you embrace being a loud proud deviant and are not going to be silenced

And right at the end when Hope is attempting to tut tut Otis with her ‘I’m older and wiser and everyone from back when agrees with me’ Otis destroys her logic calmly by saying ‘no, they just weren’t allowed to speak up back then’.

Pro tip: a useful trick to destroying a fascist is to make it clear they’re views are not popular and they are in the minority.

Like I’m surprised a British show went so hard on a specific type of horrible person that is a large part of why Britain has a transphobic movement.

(If this is sent double, tumblr fucked up, I got an error on sending this ask -) Hi Steph, me again with a fic search request, by all means ignore me if I'm annoying. Do you have anything that focuses on Sherlock as a violinist? Johnlock is a big plus of course. Take care, have a wonderful day!

Avatar

Hi Lovely!!

Ahhh, I don’t really have any that I know of where Sherlock is primarily a violinist instead of a detective; The closest I have is this one, but it’s for-a-case:

No Good Without You by textsandscones (T, 4,021 w. || Case Fic, Sherlock’s Violin, Dancing / Busking, Soppy Fluff) – A diverting new case surrounding musicians and stolen instruments captures Sherlock’s attention, the consequences of which lead both detective and doctor to see one another in a different light. Part 1 of Prompt Fills

Do any of my lovelies know of any fics? I’d LOVE to read a musician AU!!

Last Call at the Homesick Pub by Chryse - Takes place during the Great Hiatus, and undercover Sherlock gets a gig playing fiddle at an Irish Pub.  Not really Johnlocky, but absolutely beautiful. It’s only 3200 words - give it a read.

thetimemoves

There’s also Steam and Strings by billiethepoet. It’s a a deliciously smutty AU with Sherlock as a violinist in Lestrade’s orchestra who works off his frustrations in the baths, where he meets a mysterious stranger. :)

Ooh!

I have to add (so maybe we’re a bliss of another kind) by paperclipbitch, a rock band AU that has Sherlock as the songwriting genius, John as the bassist, Molly as the drummer and Jim as the not-entirely-sane lead singer. It’s more gen than Johnlock, but it’s written in a beautifully dreamy, surreal style and every time I read it I wish there were more to this universe.

And also While the Music Lasts by gunandviolin has Sherlock as a concert violinist and John as a clarinetist, with a case thrown in for good measure. This one is a WIP that has not been updated since 2015 and is probably not likely to be finished.

I know there’s a short smutty one that I read recently where Sherlock was a petulant diva of a violinist and John was the new conductor. It was lovely - anyone know the name of that one?

Oh!  If we’re doing rock band AUs, How about some punk:

There’s @sherlockedcarmilla ’s current WIP Dissonance

Or my very own Interview.

Interview by bluebellofbakerstreet (G, 2,791 w., 2 Ch. || Punk AU || Past Drug Use, Past Suicidal Ideation, Implied Mystrade, Punklock / Bandlock, Fanart Included) – What’s better than John Watson and Sherlock Holmes in a punk band? John Watson and Sherlock Holmes on the cover of the Rolling Stone, and giving an interview.

Last Call at the Homesick Pub by Chryse (T, 3,203 w., 1 Ch. || Post-TRF/Pre-TEH, Pining, St. Patrick’s Day) – "You may have heard of the remarkable explorations of a Norwegian named Sigerson.“

Steam and Strings by billiethepoet (E, 4,336 w., 1 Ch. || Orchestra AU) – Sherlock uses a gay bathhouse to relax from the tediousness of playing in Lestrade’s terrible orchestra. But sometimes you meet the most interesting people in the strangest places.

(so maybe we’re a bliss of another kind) by paperclipbitch (T, 12,975 w., 1 Ch. || Rock Band AU) – “You don’t write love songs,” John says. “You write about other things and people misinterpret them because in the right lighting they look like love songs. But they’re not.”

While the Music Lasts by gunandviolin (E, 44,645+ w., 6/? Ch. || WiP || Orchestra AU || Slow Burn, Jealous John, Angst with Happy Ending, Classical Music, Sexual Tension) – John Watson, a weary veteran of the professional orchestra circuit, settles into his new position as principal clarinetist for the London Symphony, hoping that he’s left his worries behind in the States. However, his sudden acquaintance with the brilliant solo violinist Sherlock Holmes and the suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of his predecessor prove that John’s troubles are far from over.

Dissonance by CarmillaCarmine (E, 66,150+ w., 12/? Ch. || WIP || Punk Band AU || Pining, Bi/Gay Panic, Best Friends to Lovers, First Kiss, Swimming, Music, Doctor Watson, Drug References, First Time, Blow/Hand Jobs) – Straight from military service, living a life devoid of purpose, John meets a man who reawakens his passion for music.

——

Wowee!! Thanks everyone!! Great selections!! MOAR MOAR MOAR!!!!!!!!

There is a pair of rp blogs in which Sherlock is a well-known concert violinist and John a returning vet: @wssh-violin and @displaced-doctor.  The blogs are no longer active, but have been curated at https://sh-jw-history.tumblr.com/chronologicalreading.  I miss following their story - it was sweet, complex and included cat pictures.

Do you have one fic that you’ve read and reread and never seem to get tired of? Doesn’t necessarily have to be your favorite fic, just the one that you keep coming back to again and again like the ultimate comfort food.

Mine is The Bang and the Clatter. I’ve read it more times than I can count, and I revisit it every single year when spring training starts. I love Sherlock and baseball and this fic is romantic and funny and exciting and it always puts me in the best of moods.

What’s yours?

Compiling all of the great recs I’ve received so far into one post with links!

@lediona25 says: I have a weakness for sports AUs - A Study in Winning is also a fave.

@imnovampire says: The Starving Faithful by orphan_account.

@sarahthecoat says: The Quiet Man, and The Progress of Sherlock Holmes, both by ivyblossom. I think The Men Who Talk Between the Words is going to be also.

@thetimemoves says: I’m a big rereader, so it’s hard to pick just one but what stands out right now is The Love Song of Dr. John H. Watson by Kate_Lear written way back during the S1 hiatus. John taking an unsuspecting Sherlock out for a perfectly-tailored Valentine’s Day adventure? Yes please! There’s murder and snark and touching and sweetness. They explore London, and later each other, and I will never ever tire of it.

@cumberfoil says: I love A Study in Winning and Performance in a Leading Role. I reread them once a year.

@mercurialkitty says: Two Coffees One Black One with Sugar Please series – essentially, To Sleep, Perchance to Smother Your Flatmate with a Pillow and the two sequels  and Earlgreytea’s Nature and Nurture series. I love Oliver.

@rsfcommonplace says: The Affair of the Asphyxiated Acafan by AJ Hall comes to mind. Or Rigging Screws by the same author.

@peageetibbs says: I am relatively new to the fandom, and though there are already quite a few fics in my “Favourites” folder, I rarely found time to reread them, especially the long ones, because there are so many more awesome fics still to discover. But I have read “If You Can´t Move Heaven, Raise Hell”  and “Staricase Wit”  by splix and “Ridiculous”  by KateAtTheClose a few times

@13monkton says: Anything by madlori, ivyblossom and caitlinfairchild. Showing my age, I know.

@cyn2k says: Anything by BeautifulFiction, though Electric Pink Hand Grenade is dear to me because migraines are a bane. The Art of Seduction series by flawedamythyst. This Doesn’t Feel Like Falling by Dark3Star.

@idkmanshrug says: Honestly, any of your fics, but especially Inscrutable to the Last  :) but anything Sherlock from JenTheSweetie is really good, I highly recommend it!!!

@bakersttardis says: I have a couple. Love in Idleness by perkynerples, Observations on Sentinels and Guides in Victorian London  by RyuuzaKochou and despite it being a Christmas fic I read John Watson’s Twelve Days of Christmas by earlgreytea68 every time I’m down.

Number 4 in a series.

Sherlock paper dolls - many thanks to those who offered advice when I couldn’t decide who to draw next - and with all the lovely news about Sherlock that has come out recently, this seemed an obvious choice.

Obviously.

Previous dolls may be viewed here:

Next will be Rachel McAdams as Irene Adler

These are awesome!
