yeah yeah the confession happening is bonkers but i still feel like widower arc is the most insane thing they did on spn

to elaborate: dean screams and falls to his knees paralyzed by cas' corpse while sam runs off to find jack. the angels taunts dean by telling dean it's his fault cas is dead and he won't come back this time (they don't even mention mary). dean prays to chuck and says they have lost everything so now chuck has to bring HIM back (????) for all we know it's dean who prepares the pyre because we see him walk away with an axe. he prepares cas' body on his own, has to stop himself multiple times because it's too much. he stands by the fire completely shattered and it doesn't even look like him, he's drained and hopeless and gutted. the script tells us he (not sam and dean. just dean.) spread cas' ashes in a meadow since it was a 'zen calm kinda place' and even though it doesn't happen on screen we do see cas come back in a meadow so. he hates jack because in his eyes it's jack's fault cas is dead, if jack hadn't been born cas would still be alive. he drinks and drinks and drinks and tells sam he doesn't have any faith anymore. then he straight up kills himself and the script states he really had the intention to die in that haunted mansion. then cas calls and his face is lit up and they meet in an alley and there's a blue cross behind him just as it is in romeo and juliet from 1996 and dean hugs him and says 'welcome home' despite being miles and miles away from the place they consider home.

cas, you have got to stop dying this poor man can't take much more.
