just one time, maybe the stars align

Charlie had become almost mythical to him. The only times Charlie was free to hang out with Tara and Darcy was when Nick was otherwise engaged. He had to go home for his mum’s birthday, he had a date (which never ended well), he got food poisoning. Nick began to wonder if Charlie actually existed.

Except he knew Charlie existed because he’d seen photos. He would never admit it to his friends, but the first time he saw Charlie, he had to take a minute to reboot. It was a blurry selfie on Darcy’s instagram story, her and Charlie clearly drunk on a night out. Nick had been holed up with the flu, living vicariously through his friends’ photos, when he saw it.

Or, Nick finally meets Charlie at Tara and Darcy's bachelorette party and the stars do, in fact, align.

Tara smirked. “Yes, Charlie Spring. Isaac is one of his best friends. He posts booktube videos.”

“Booktube?”

Darcy rolled her eyes. “Get on the internet, Nicholas! Youtube videos specifically about books. Isaac has a really great channel. Awesome queer recs.” She handed an earbud to Tara, and they both huddled around her phone.

Or, Nick sees Charlie for the first time in years in Isaac's video and maybe that crush he thought was dulled comes back in full force. At least he can get all the recommended books at the new bookshop in town...
