Sometimes people use “respect” to mean “treating someone like a person” and sometimes they use “respect” to mean “treating someone like an authority”

and sometimes people who are used to being treated like an authority say “if you won’t respect me I won’t respect you” and they mean “if you won’t treat me like an authority I won’t treat you like a person”

and they think they’re being fair but they aren’t, and it’s not okay.

This is so well put I am stunned

Simu Liu has more talent and personality in his pinky finger than the rest of the MCU im sorry but not really i love this man with all my heart go stream Hot Soup by 88Rising and Simu Liu on the Shang Chi soundtrack

But I don’t agree. Sebastian’s acting in episode 4 of TFATWS is some of the best in the MCU. Hell, it’s some of the best we’ve seen from him.

listen i love sebastian stan with my whole chest as well, but this post was honestly written in a joking way to show support for simu liu, and the way sebastian was brought up to compare against him is kind of insensitive in that it’s trying to pull the attention away from supporting an actor of color.

if you don’t agree you could have just scrolled past, instead of reblogging and adding a bunch of sebastian related tags — which comes off as trying to garner support of more seb stans to further pull the post away from where it was intended to go.

the post itself was really not that deep, but i felt the need to address this more seriously because i think it’s important for us to be able to have diverse representation, not just for people of color but for other minority groups, without having the spotlight being yanked away from those marginalized groups and back towards cis white men.

again, this is coming from a bucky/seb stan and i don’t mean this in an aggressive way but i do definitely think it’s something that we could all, myself included, strive to do better at.

What’s the most simple thing you’ve ever had to explain to a fully competent adult?

That you cannot fax money to someone.

Had someone accidentally fax us some paperwork. They then asked if we would fax it back due to the paperwork being confidential…

I have received a fax in an envelope. like… they took the documents, put em in an envelope, then faxed me a picture of the sealed envelope.

When I was a kid, I faxed my dad’s satellite office drawings of horses. I had watched my father send so many faxes that I had the process memorized. Except, for some reason I thought that I could fax things to grandma. I put in the numbers for the office every time, but was convinced that the faxes were going to grandma. I also didn’t think to inform my parents that I was doing this.

My dad visited the satellite office (three hour drive) one day and discovered their conference room white board absolutely covered in my drawings. The guys thought it was adorable that I sent drawings and letters to them, and didn’t tell my dad because they knew he’d stop me.

That’s one of the cutest things I’ve ever heard.

I like that this just turned into stories about faxing

honestly frodo’s journey is so wild

like, imagine your uncle goes missing after his birthday party, and his old stoner friend from out of town tells you the souvenir he brought back from a vegas trip 80 years ago is actually satan’s mood ring and now zombie assassins are coming to burn down your town unless you and your lawn guy meet up with medieval hozier in a dark gastropub…

This is the funniest synopsis of lotr I’ve ever seen

More please

I will reblog this every time.

Literally this.

Getting dirty, asking questions, being unapologetically enthusiastic about things, going overboard on projects. These are a few of my favorite things.

This is so heartbreaking, but so true.

And it’s even more heartbreaking when you see the transition and how performative it is.

I was a camp counselor at a science/nature camp when I was 16, for a bunch of 10 and 11 yr old girls. And one day while we were waiting around for the naturalist to come get us to go on the day’s hike, the boys cabin we were grouped with was exploring the area and overturned a log and found a salamander. One of the boys picked it up and they brought it over.

My girls all went “ewww, gross, keep it away!”

…right up until I said “whoa, cool, can I see it?”

This boy handed me the salamander and all of a sudden my girls were clustering around. They wanted to hold it. They were asking questions about it. They had stories of other times they’d seen a lizard or caught a frog or something. A couple of them went with some of the boys to look under another log and see if they could find another one.

All they had needed was permission to be curious, to show interest instead of disgust. And as soon as someone they were looking to for cues on “how to be a girl” showed interest, as soon as they didn’t feel like they had to perform socially-acceptable girliness and pretend to be grossed out in order to gain adult approval, all that natural curiosity and the fascination most kids have for the natural world just came bubbling right up.

As a female engineer, I have to reblog this.
