helloooo writeblr it is time for me to write once again, and once again I want not to feel alone, SO

send me your favourite dialogue exchange or piece of imagery from your wip and I will respond with the first poem it makes me think of.

Roshini: (Narrated)(Angrily) That’s it. I should just tell my mother I was wrong and she is free to go find a man for me. Who wants to date if it’s going to be like this? And this is the best one so far. How tragic is that? And you cannot blame this one on me. I wasn’t planning on going on another date until the world blissfully ended. But just because I mentioned once or twice or perhaps more than that. (Guiltily) Perhaps a lot more than that that I perhaps don’t want to be single anymore, maybe get a boyfriend for the experience of it, Gayatri misread it as me begging her to set me up for someone. So this is her brother’s classmate’s neighbour’s cousin’s childhood neighbour he still runs into sometimes. I think. Or maybe it’s her cousin’s classmate’s brother. Anyway. (Frustrated.) How hard is it to find one nice date! Just one!

(Spoken) It’s great to see how much you’re enjoying this.

Zeher: Oh. Yeah. Shouldn’t the food have come by now?

Roshini: (Narrated) I am going to flip this table and dump this jug of water over his stupid hair and his stupider eyebrow piercing. Who told him that was a good idea? Why did I think this was a good idea?

(Spoken) (Sourly) I think you’re supposed to order first.

Zeher: I thought you did that already.

Roshini: (Narrated) (Incredulously) Now he looks at the menu.

(Spoken) Well, you can order now and pay. I’m done!

[Chair scraping noises.]

Zeher: (Panicked) Roshini wait! I… was… distracted?

Roshini: (Sighs) Give me one reason to stay. Just one.

Zeher: Roshini. You are here. In this posh hotel. And your eyes gleam like oil.

My current project is a comedy podcast so I don't have a lot of atmospheric passages at the moment but here's a acne that really embodies it I think

I love this. I love the amount of personality in it and I love how it gets worse and worse until that last line which slayed me

the first poem it reminded me of has nothing to do with dating, but your style reminded me of it, and when I was about 11 years old I thought it was extremely funny. looking at it again now, I still think it is funny:

To My Son, Aged Three Years and Five Months

by Thomas Hood

Thou happy, happy elf! (But stop,—first let me kiss away that tear—) Thou tiny image of myself! (My love, he's poking peas into his ear!) Thou merry, laughing sprite! With spirits feather-light, Untouched by sorrow, and unsoiled by sin; (Good Heavens! the child is swallowing a pin!)
Thou little tricksy Puck! With antic toys so funnily bestuck, Light as the singing bird that wings the air; (The door! the door! he'll tumble down the stair!) Thou darling of thy sire! (Why, Jane, he'll set his pinafore afire!) Thou imp of mirth and joy! In love's dear chain, so strong and bright a link, Thou idol of thy parents; (Drat the boy! There goes my ink!)
Thy father's pride and hope! (He'll break the mirror with that skipping-rope!) With pure heart newly stamped from Nature's mint; (Where did he learn that squint!) Thou young domestic dove! (He'll have that jug off with another shove!) Dear nursling of the Hymeneal nest! (Are those torn clothes his best?) Little epitome of man! (He'll climb upon the table, that's his plan!) Touched with the beauteous tints of dawning life (He's got a knife!)
Thou pretty opening rose! (Go to your mother, child, and wipe your nose!) Balmy and breathing music like the South, (He really brings my heart into my mouth!) Fresh as the morn, and brilliant as its star, (I wish that window had an iron bar!) Bold as the hawk, yet gentle as the dove; (I'll tell you what, my love, I cannot write unless he's sent above!)

That poem is wonderful and I'm so glad I now know it exists.

As for the characters, they are also wonderful but complete disasters. The #beforetheworldends tag on my blog has more about them but if there's something you want to know just ask! I love talking about them I'm just bad at doing so

saw a thing and thought to myself 'podcast about ghost hunters'

and then i thought, 'podcast about fake ghost hunters who know it's fake'

and then i thought to myself, 'podcast about fake ghost hunters making a fake ghost hunting show, but all of them in their private lives are in fact involved in the spooky supernatural world, but they are doing their level best to utilize their show to hide the supernatural world from the world at large, possibly for safety reasons but possibly also bcos it's super boring and they'd make no money if ppl knew that'

It's not exactly the same thing but one of future podcast ideas is about a girl and who's essentially the perfect type to be possessed by ghosts . So she and her two boyfriends turn it into a ghost hunting business but it's not that hard so they go to extraordinary lengths to make it seem tough so that they'll get paid

fdjskf GOD that's so precisely my cup of tea i love it i love it!!

Ok I'm finally right at the end of writing this season finale. I know what happens I just need to write it .

Anyway if any of you want to send me some motivation, give your most random guesses on what the ending could be. You don't need to know anything about the podcast, just give an ending and I'll rate how close it is

Writing update!!!

Today was a really good writing day and the highlights include:

  • Person says a cliche, has pay docked for saying aforementioned cliche, and then does the very thing they were trying to prevent earlier
  • Some nice satisfying math
  • Writing in my balcony where birds have built a nest and the parents were very chill in my presence until I tried imitating their noises at which point they rudely abandoned me
  • Staring blankly at the apartments in front of me for 10 minutes. It's integral to the writing process

so I’m looking at short story publishers (fantasy)

  1. Tor, cream of the crop. 25 cents a word. Stories can be read for free (YES). Slowish response time at ~3 months. Prefer under 12k, absolute maximum is 17.5k. Don’t bother if it’s not highly professional quality. SFWA qualifying.
  2. Crossed Genres. 6 cents a word. Different theme each month (this month’s is “failure”). Submissions must combine either sci-fi or fantasy with the theme. Response time 1 month. 1k-6k, no exceptions. SFWA qualifying.
  3. Long Hidden, anthology from CG. 6 cents a word. 2k-8k, no exceptions. Must take place before 1935. Protagonist(s) must be under 18 and marginalized in their time and place. Must be sci-fi/fantasy/horror. Deadline 30 April. Response by 1 October.
  4. Queers Destroy Science Fiction. Sci-fi only right now, author must identify as queer (gay, lesbian, bi, ace, pan, trans, genderfluid, etc, just not cishet). 7.5k max. Deadline 15 February. Responses by 1 March. You can submit one flash fiction and one short story at the same time. (My network blocks the Lightspeed site for some reason, so I can’t get all the submission details. >_>) Probably SFWA qualifying?
  5. Women in Practical Armor. 6 cents a word. 2k-5k. Must be about 1) a female warrior who 2) is already empowered and 3) wears sensible armour. Deadline 1 April. Response within three months.
  6. Fiction Vortex. $10 per story, with $20 and $30 for editor’s and readers’ choice stories (hoping to improve). Speculative fiction only. Imaginative but non-florid stories. 7.5k maximum, preference for 5k and under. (I kind of want to support them on general principle.)
  7. Urban Fantasy Magazine. 6 cents a word. 8k max, under 4k preferred. Must be urban fantasy (aka, the modern world, doesn’t need to be a literal city).
  8. Nightmare. 6 cents a word. 1.5-7.5k, preference for under 5k. Horror and dark fantasy. Response time up to two weeks. SFWA and HWA qualifying.
  9. Apex Magazine. 6 cents a word. 7.5k max, no exceptions. Dark sci-fi/fantasy/horror. SFWA qualifying.
  10. Asimov’s Science Fiction. 8-10 cents a word. 20k max, 1k minimum. Sci-fi; borderline fantasy is ok, but not S&S. Prefer character focused. Response time 5 weeks; query at 3 months. SFWA qualifying, ofc.
  11. Buzzy Mag. 10 cents a word. 10k max. Should be acceptable for anyone 15+. Response time 6-8 weeks. SFWA qualifying.
  12. Strange Horizons. 8 cents a word. Speculative fiction. 10k max, prefers under 5k. Response time 40 days. Particularly interested in diverse perspectives, nuanced approahces to political issues, and hypertexts. SFWA qualifying.
  13. Fantasy and Science Fiction. 7-12 cents a word. Speculative fiction, preference for character focus, would like more science-fiction or humour. 25k maximum. Prefers Courier. Response time 15 days.
  14. Scigentasy. 3 cents a word. .5-5k. Science-fiction and fantasy, progressive/feminist emphasis. Fantastic Stories of the Imagination. 15 cents a word. 3k maximum. Any sci-fi/fantasy, they like a literary bent. (psst, steinbecks!) They also like to see both traditional and experimental approaches. Response time two weeks.
  15. Beneath Ceaseless Skies. 6 cents a word. 10k maximum. Fantasy in secondary worlds only (it can be Earth, but drastically different—alternate history or whatever). Character focus, prefer styles that are lush yet clear, limited first or third person narration. Response time usually 2-4 weeks, can be 5-7 weeks. SFWA qualifying.
  16. Clarkesworld. 10 cents a word up to 4000, 7 afterwards. 1-8k, preferred is 4k. Science-fiction and fantasy. Needs to be well-written and convenient to read on-screen. Appreciates rigour. No talking cats. Response time 2 days. SFWA qualifying.
  17. Orson Scott Card’s Intergalactic Medicine Show. 6 cents a word. Any length. Science-fiction and fantasy (along with fantastic horror). Good world-building and characterization. Clear straightforward prose. Response time three months. Yes, OSC is editor-in-chief. SFWA qualifying.
  18. Interzone. Sub-pro rates if anything (but highly respected). 10k max. Short cover letter. Science-fiction and fantasy.

literally most things that people write off as just ‘textures’ to use in graphics are stolen & unsourced material created by artists or photographers NOT meant to be used as elements in projects without royalty payments. you can say ‘it’s just random tumblr posts they don’t care’ but you wouldn’t want someone to take your work and edit into their work so they can be praised for their beautiful style and creativity even if they just post it on social media w/o profit, would you?? so maybe if you browse pinterest or google images for pictures without finding the original source, you’re using images that you’re not allowed to use without realizing it.

you see it on here a lot especially in (i won’t link anything but i’m sure you know what i mean) those album track ‘aesthetics’ posts, au ‘aesthetic’ posts (you see these less in kpop, but where people use non-royalty free images to kinda craft a visual au), and even just rather typical graphics that have a lot of ‘texture’ elements. and texture packs too!! that’s often where the problem starts; people just collect images (often literal art), compile them in a folder w/o sources, then insist no one can repost those images w/o crediting the person who compiled them. what???

SO may i suggest some of my fave places you can get FREE, ROYALTY-FREE elements that are totally legal to use

I’m gonna add a few more:

  • Morguefile is my favorite free stock photo site
  • Texturemate is full of excellent free textures, brushes, and patterns.
  • Transparent Textures actually lets you combine colors and patterns to build your own texture right there in the browser.

Hey guys! I’m a sort of designer enthusiast/hobbyist and I do my fair share of freelancing, so overtime I’ve accumulated a list as well which I would love to share with you.

  • Freepik has anything from textures to layered psds, icons and so much more that is actually free to use.
  • Unsplash is a community of photographers which provides daily content that you can use! You don’t have to credit them but you should. They’re amazing.
  • Icons8 is basically a library of icons and icon sets, they have a little over 60,000 icons for you to choose from.
  • The Pattern Library is a very generous project of Julien Renvoye, he’s basically created a library of amazing seamless patterns/textures you can use.

Let's talk about mynoise.net

Have you ever been listening to Rainymood and thought, “Yeah, this is good … but it would be nice if I could customize the sound more, or if there was a little more choice.

Let me introduce you to MyNoise.

MyNoise is a customizable sounscape looper with so many options, even within each soundscape.  So say, for instance, you really love rain sounds when you write or study or relax.  Anything.  I know I’m a big fan of rain sounds.  They have a page for that.

But say you like really high, pattery rain, and LOTS of low thunder.  Here’s where MyNoise really stands out: you can customize that.  See those sliders with all the cute colors?  That is your equalizer. You can adjust the levels based on what you want to hear more and less of.  Here’s how it looks when you want high, pattery rain and low, rumbly thunder:

But say rain isn’t really your jam.  Say you want something a little more ambient, a little more background noise-y.  Something with people.  Well, they have customizable coffee house chatter that even has the levels listed for things like “kitchen,” “babble,” and “table”:

Or say you miss the ocean.

Or say you miss your cat.

Or say you miss your spaceship.

Or say you miss the dungeon where you and your team of scalawag adventurers used to explore and face off against, say, dragons.  In the dungeon.

This site is seriously so helpful, and those are just a fraction of every kind of sounscape the site has to offer.  The best part is that if you want to layer it with music (for instance, I’ll layer a playlist + rain + coffee shop if the scene I’m writing takes place in a coffee shop), you can adjust the master volume, meaning all of your layers stay at their respective volumes, just louder or quieter.

Enjoy!

OH MY GOD

Y’ALL I JUST STARTED USING THIS TODAY BUT THIS HAS BROKEN THROUGH MY WRITER’S BLOCK LIKE NOTHING ELSE.

TRY IT.  USE IT.  LOVE IT.
