It was a mistake. That’s all it was and ever would be. It was never supposed to happen. Neither of you ever thought the other would betray them like that. But here you were, sitting on the living room couch in silence waiting until your boyfriend would come downstairs.

When you heard the toilet flushing, you knew it was the moment you had to end it. One way or another, your relationship would be built on lies and neither of you deserved that. At least, that’s what you has decided. It was enough. You heard him coming down the stairs and your heartbeat picked up. Your palms began to feel sweaty and you were sure you were about to have a panic attack. When he came in and saw you already crying, he knew.

Harry and you had been seeing each other since a few months and it was safe to say you were close to being a couple, but you hadn’t had the ‘what-are-we’ talk yet. You’d met through a mutual friend. She had introduced the two of you at one of her art expositions where Harry was asked to take pictures and make an after movie for the whole event. You were mainly there for moral support, but you had offered to take care of the drinks, snacks and small talk with new guests. The two of you immediately hit off. You had the same sense of humor, he was an extreme gentleman and he seemed genuinely interested in who you were – something your past dates lacked. Harry found you sweet, adorable even, caring and real. He found you refreshing.

The bright light and warmth of the sunshine woke you up. Taking a deep breath, you pushed your face back in the pillows while one of your arms found their way to the spot where Tom laid next to you. However, your arm found an empty spot and a cold pillow. As a light sleeper, you usually heard of felt him leave the bed, but you hadn’t noticed anything this morning. It wasn’t like Tom to get up before you, especially after being away from home for so long. The mornings after he came back usually consisted of you two staying in bed until noon, cuddling and chatting about everything and anything. You glanced around the room and found his joggers, socks and shirt missing.
