New Facts about Nikolas, coming from his confession transcripts

• Nikolas lived with his friend, the Snead’s son, for approximately four months leading up to the massacre

• According to Nik, he did drugs that no one really knew about, such as Xanax and Marijuana

• One of Nikolas’ most recent suicide attempts, about two months before the event, involved taking large doses of Ibuprofen and Advil in order to overdose and ultimately try to kill himself. He snuck out of his house where he bought the products, he then took almost all of it and went to bed. This caused his heart to hurt and made his stomach feel bad, afterwards he went to the bathroom and threw up.

• Another one of Nikolas’ suicide attempts, which was a few years before his mothers passing, involved drinking a lot of alcohol in order to get alcohol poisoning. He ended up sleeping it out.

• One of the main reasons towards his suicide attempt involving ibuprofen and Advil was feeling depressed about everything. In particular, it also had to do with his mother.

• Other than Nikolas’ two year job working at Dollar tree, he also did lawn mowing.

• The main reasoning towards his suicide attempt involving alcohol poisoning was because of loneliness and isolation. He claimed that he didn’t have many friends in his life.

• An occasion where Nik was involved with the police in the past was for shooting animals. Six years ago, he shot a chicken with a pellet gun and the police came to the door due to this asking them if he had any guns.

• Another occasion that involved the police had to do with him riding his bike. The exact reason was unspecified.

• Nikolas bought his AR47 about a year or two ago from a gun store in Margate,he paid about $560 for it. He bought his magazines online for $200 for each of them.

• The other guns he owned aside from his AR47 were apparently rifles.

• Nikolas fired his AR47 before in his garage about twice, he fired at the ground. He chose the gun because it was “cool looking”

• Nikolas claimed he stopped going to Marjory Stoneman Douglas after three years ago because his depression worsened.

• One of the incidents which contributed to his depression worsening was him getting into a fight with Ian Shingle. He was suspended and came back but stopped going because he felt embarrassed because of the fight, apparently Ian got the better of him from it.

• He fought with Ian Shingle because Ian was talking to his girlfriend at the time which was Emilee.

• Other than the fight, Nikolas got into more problems such as failing his classes, he just stopped going to MSD and from then on, they transferred him to an alternative school.

• When Nik transferred he wasn’t going out with Emilee as he stopped talking to her after he started having bad grades

• Other than his gun being cool to him, Nik felt he needed his gun to feel safe and for protection

• According to Nik, he hears voices (“It’s one — it’s another voice. The evil side) he began hearing these voices when his father passed away, apparently it started getting worse when his mother also passed away.

• They told him to “Burn. Kill. Destroy”

• Because of the voices, Nikolas set fires to pits and killed animals, like birds.

• He never told his mother about the voices. , He believes he told Zachary (his brother) about him hearing voices and thinks he told his ex girlfriend, Emilee, about it before.

• The day before the massacre, he heard voices during the night during his work, they were telling him to “kill people” and hurt people in general. The voice told him to take the Uber to Douglas the morning of the massacre.

• Apparently the voices are inside of him, they sound male and about his age, it always tells him to do bad things. To him, it’s him and then his bad side.

• Nikolas has other family members and relatives which live in New York. None of them took him in after his mothers passing because of there being no will, none of them sent him money either.

• He paid the bills with his mothers money from an account. He also tried to help Zach out with the finances by giving him access to it.

• Nikolas wanted to be a ranger after he graduated school, although he took the ASVAB and failed, because according to him, “I was stupid”.

• In the mini notes of his phone which he lost at the schools campus, he mentions having thoughts of going to a park and shooting people there. He didn’t end up going through with this as he didn’t want to do it and he didn’t know exactly why.

• His late father was in the Marines in the past.

• Nik never met his real parents, it took his mother a long time after his father died to tell him that he was adopted.

• According to Nikolas, his parents put him down, made him feel bad. They made him feel bad that he “was crazy, stupid.”

• Supposedly, Zach and him are from the same mother although they treated Zach the same way. His parents didn’t physically abuse him, only mentally, he feels like he is stupid.

• Nikolas felt like the workers from his job at Dollar Tree just felt bad for him. His mother filled out the application for him during Christmas time and there was no interview, he was sad that day.

• Other than his ex Emilie, he’s never had a girlfriend before her. Nikolas felt that she was “the love of his life” he’s talked to other girls since then and went out with other girls. He tried to take other girls he was interested in to dinner, he didn’t know why he scared them. He believes they probably think he’s “stupid” now.

• Nikolas claims that he tries to control the voices he hears by trying to physically move. He mostly hears the voices when he’s at bed during the night, at least once every day and he started usually hearing it in the afternoon but he hears it more at night.

• When Nikolas didn’t listen to what the voice said, he feared he would feel loneliness for it. To him, the voice prevented him from feeling loneliness because he had a “voice in his head that he could talk to about it”.

• Even though the voices tell him bad things, he still accepted the company of it just to “have somebody” with him because to him, he didn’t have anyone else in his life.

• Nikolas didn’t know if he had a decent relationship with his brother, and didn’t know if Zach cared about him or not. He felt like the voices cared about him more than his own brother.

• The voices told him to specifically purchase the AR15. He doesn’t ever remember posting the comment which said “I’m going to be a professional school shooter” under his name before his mothers passing. He does recall posting pictures with his B.B gun and maverick, which he bought at Dick’s Sporting Goods for $200 after purchasing the AR15. The voices told him to purchase it too

• They would also tell him to hurt himself, he’d cut himself and the last time he did was earlier the day of the massacre, while he was at the lake fishing. He cut himself with a knife at the time, which he claimed weren’t sharp enough. He would usually cut himself “to the point where it just starts pouring”

• He got the bleeding from his self harm to stop by pouring hydrogen peroxide. He didn’t know if his mother knew he cut himself but he believes that his brother did know of this. He would cut himself because the voices told him to and thought that if he didn’t listen to the voice, that he was going to be alone because the voice was like his only friend.

• According to Nik, he tried to get along with everyone and would only do things after work by himself, like fishing just by himself and “with his demon”

• Other than the Maverick, Nik owned three other shotguns that were The Hi-Point, Remingto, Mossberg and an AK-47. His mother was with him when he bought almost all his guns other than the Maverick. She wouldn’t come inside the store with him while he purchased him, and he told her it was because it was cool and for protecting himself (From the voices, “to keep him occupied so he doesn’t do anything”.) He kept all of his guns in a safe at The Snead’s home, he did this to keep the voice from getting to the guns.

• During the confession, he stated that he heard voices talking to him alot since him and the detective were conversing, telling him to cut himself and to kill himself now. Apparently they didn’t trust the detective because he was too nice. He didn’t tell anyone other than his brother about the voices because he was afraid, the voices told him not to do that and he listened.

• He loves his mom and he didn’t tell her about the voices he heard because he didn’t want to scare her. When his mother was alive and her condition was worsening, he tried taking her to the doctor and tried giving her cough medicine.

• Nikolas claims that he doesn’t believe in god, but he feels like there’s something and that there’s an afterlife. He believes his mother is somewhere right now even if she passed away.

• Nikolas would listen to music (while cutting himself) such as “Salad Days” by Marc Demarco on SoundCloud. He also listened to Russian bass, which is instrumental music and “like party music”, other than that he listened to a lot of sad songs. According to him the demon (the voices) picked the “evil ones” such as a German song, Panzermensch by And One.

• Apparently, when Nikolas told Zach about the voices, he told him to “focus on life” which he tried to do for things to work out.

• Nik would pay The Snead’s about $50 every two weeks rent wise. He would make under $300 a week from his job at Dollar Tree. He would use his money on food, his weapons and the drugs he mentioned (Xanax, weed)

• He claimed that the drugs helped make the demons go away, although he didn’t do it all the time because it was illegal and he “didn’t want to do wrong but he wanted to do wrong” even though it made him go away. He didn’t know he could’ve been prescribed medical marijuana or prescription Xanax.

• Nikolas broke his finger 2-3 weeks before the massacre from falling from his porch, he was running when this happened because he was happy. He had a splint on his finger and removed it before the massacre.

• During the confession, Zach asked him what he thinks Lynda would think right now about what he did if she was there. He said “She would cry”. Zach contacted him days before because he had a bad feeling in his heart but he stopped using his social media because of people. Nik used to text Zach mostly to check up on his dogs “ You’d be like oh, how are Kobe, how are Maizy? And they’re good.”

James Gamble, 19, plotted a mass shooting at a Halifax mall alongside Lindsay Souvannarath (pictured) and Randall Shepherd (pictured). It was supposed to be on Valentines Day of 2015. The plan foiled, causing police to arrest Lindsay and Randall, then soon make their way to James’ house. As the police were closing in on his house, James shot himself with one single bullet, killing himself. James and Lindsay were both heavily influenced by the Columbine High school massacre, calling themselves the “reincarnated Dylan and Eric”. They were also both active members of the TCC, and both had tumblr accounts dedicated to Columbine. Lindsay was sentenced for life for conspiracy to commit murder and Randall was sentenced to 10 years for conspiracy of association to commit murder.
