hi there and welcome to my hbo war / ww2 enthusiast sideblog!

i'm juliana, a 22yo hungarian girl who's convinced that in her previous life she was a ww2 soldier. (but let's not get into that now)
my main blog is rose-tinted-juls, so don't be surprised if i follow/reply/like/ask/whatever from that. it's me. if you ever want to talk about hbo war or just ww2 in general and don't have anyone to do it with, feel free to dm me, i always love to have a conversation about them (amongst many more things).
i love all four hbo war shows with my whole heart, band of brothers, the pacific, masters of the air and generation kill. i've also watched a huge amount of war movies as well (including ww1 too) - one of my absolute favourite movies ever made is hacksaw ridge. i'm always thankful for a film/tv series rec though!
under the cut i've listed the stuff i post about, including fanfic i write on my other sideblog, fic recs and all kinds of other little things my posts are mainly about.

Winnix moments that make me feral 16/?

I think this is one of the few times we hear Dick actually use sarcasm? Of course it’s with the only person he would actually tease. And gosh I wish they’d cut the first gif just a second later so we could see his smile develop, he’s so proud of his own teasing. And then the look? In Nix’s eyes? It’s so proud and warm and familiar and the little smile that pulls at his lips as he looks down? I can’t handle it. They’re so precious.

thinking about how leckie's own colleagues at the bergen record were his biggest ops (directly contributed to him getting bullied by the other marines)

real headline and article from the front page of the bergen record on january 27, 1944:

how that story was received by the marines according to the bergen record from december 5, 1944:

i so wish we got more buck/bucky/rosie dynamics. rosie is calm, a little shy, and can be as guarded as buck is, but he's also a Goof Ball and would actively endorse (and be involved in) bucky's musical escapades. I think that dynamic would be incredibly funny. rosie adores buck and bucky and deeply respects them and maybe even seeks them out for advice sometimes; but even buck squared is not immune to the Rosie Effect (falling in love with him)

Keep thinking of Buck and Bucky's perception of Rosie through their eyes. When they meet him, Rosie's a great pilot, has been training gunners for ages and knows his way around a plane well - but has yet to see any combat. He's that wide-eyed kind of hopeful that he can make a difference.

When they meet him again by the end of the series, Rosie's gone on to fly 52 missions. He's well and truly past his first tour, and well into his second. The rest of the 100th adore him and respect him as a leader; and Rosie adores them all right back.

Despite all of that, Rosie still seems like the same person - undemonstrative, and a little more heaviness to his shoulders perhaps, but that wide-eyed hope that I can make a difference hasn't faded.

In the third episode of Masters of The Air, in the scene when they're waiting to go up in the air, Bucky is reading a book. The cover says "Guys and Dolls" so I looked that up – turns out its a musical!

Guys and Dolls, according to google, is a play about how a gambler falls in love with this uptight, follow-the-rules girl.

Ring any bells?

I just thinks it's funny that, of all the books they could've chosen, they went with that one (when not even an episode ago, at tge very end of the episode mind you, Gale was saying how John is a gambler – plus Bucky keeps pointing out the different between them and how Buck is, in a way, "uptight")
