Team dinner (Dwayne Pride x Reader)
•• For anon 💕 thank you for requesting Dwayne! Enjoy! ••
The smell of spices was strong throughout the building but it was the strongest in the kitchen, where you and the entire team were. Pride currently had his back to you while he stirred whatever he had cooking in his pot. He’d wanted it to be a surprise.
“Whatever you’re making over there is vegan-friendly, right?” Sonja perked up from beside you and Pride chuckled.
“Yes, Sonja. I haven’t forgotten about you.”
“How could he? You’re only the hungriest woman in New Orleans.” Christopher jested from across the table and laughed when Sonja kicked him. Patton nodded.
“It’s true. I saw her devour an entire container of poor little doughnuts. They didn’t stand a chance.” Sonja shot him a playful glare.
“Don’t make me come over there.” He put his hands up defensively.
“Hey, hey, I’m just stating the facts.”
“Were they from that Vegan bakery on Toulouse street? I’ve always wanted to try vegan pastry but I’ve always been worried how it would affect my pallet, you know?” Sebastian twirled a fork in his hands and you smiled.
“You never took me as someone to try new foods, Sebastian.” You joked and Sebastian rolled his eyes.
“It’s not like I’m going to try asparagus wrapped in bacon or something. Asparagus is disgusting no matter what you wrap around it.” You laughed and Patton patted Sebastian on his forearm.
“I believe (Y/n) struck a nerve.” Pride walked over to the table with a big ol’ smile on his face. It was nice seeing his family having such a good time after all the hardships they’ve gone through as a team in the past few months.
“All right, all right, enough jokin’ around. Come get it while it’s hot.”
Dinner was great and there was plenty of laughs and giggles. Everyone filed out one by one until it was just you and Dwayne in the kitchen washing dishes, a jazz song came out softly from the radio playing in the corner.
“Thanks for stayin’ to help me (y/n). I really appreciate it.” You shrugged while putting a dish away in the cupboard.
“Anything for you Pride. My apartment will still be there when the dishes are done.” Pride watched you through the corner of his eye and he felt his heart racing. It wasn’t the most romantic setting but…he couldn’t keep his secret any longer.
“(Y/n)….there’s somethin’ I’ve been meaning to tell ya.” He sighed and put down the sponge he’d been using. “I know you might not be lookin for a relationship right now, but, I think…I think I love you.” He turned and saw the look of awe on your face. His cheeks turned red and he immediately went back to washing dishes. He should’ve known you didn’t feel what he felt. “I understand that you don’t feel the same way, it’s fine, I’m sorry that I-” His eyes widened as you turned his head and pushed your lips hard into his. He dropped the dish back into the sink and you pulled away.
“You talk too much, Dwayne. You didn’t even give me a chance to tell you that…” You reached out and wiped a patch of dish soap that hand landed on his shoulder. “I think I love you too. Now come on, we can talk after the dishes are done.” Pride chuckled with a salute.
