i opened my windows for the first time.

i just realized how many highlighters i use to study my notes thoroughly. i also realized i love studying on paper, rather than reading on my ipad. i don’t have a color coding system though. our first exam’s next week, and i am so nervous, i don’t know how well i’m going to fare. we’ll see, though?

Advice to Med Students/Interns: How to Talk During a Pelvic Exam*

  • Say: This may be uncomfortable but it shouldn’t hurt. Please tell me if it hurts and I will stop.
  • Don’t say: this won’t hurt
  • Say: This is my hand touching your leg
  • Don’t say: these are my fingers down here
  • Say: now I’m going to insert the speculum
  • Don’t say: I’m putting it in/ sticking it in now
  • Say: you will hear a click as I open the speculum
  • Don’t say: that noise is me opening you up
  • Say: you may feel some cramping as I collect some cells from your cervix with this brush
  • Don’t say: now I’m gonna take a scraping of your cervix
  • Say: how are you doing? Are you okay?
  • Don’t say: everything feel good?
  • Say: Everything looks normal
  • Don’t say: everything looks great down here
  • Say: Now I’m going to remove the speculum
  • Don’t say: I’m backing out/pulling out now

*yes, the don’ts are things I’ve heard in exam rooms

Tl;dr: if you can make a “that’s what she/he said” joke out of it, don’t say it during a pelvic exam. Keep it totes profesh.

Sometimes you just have to say ‘okay brain, that’s enough’

Avatar

Late night reading and note-taking because this morning’s webinar really took a huge chunk of my time, then my brain proceeded to being inert for the rest of the day. Which subsequently made me feel anxious (and oddly guilty, idk maybe. I can’t tell anymore) because I wasn’t doing enough reading and writing for the day. On top of that, my brain had somehow propense towards reading a summarised article called The Third Eye: A Spiritual Laser for Stimulating Inner Awakening by Jai Deduja. Curiouser and curiouser.

14 days of productivity (accountability boppity boo days 9 and 10)

Day 9 and 10 were slightly stressful bc i decided to transfer to another review center. My former one had a full day sched, which I just cannot do without needing to rent a place somewhere that I do not have the money for at all. My current one just takes half a day so I can rest a bit and actually study at home instead of wishing i was studying AND resting ugh

I still haven't received a proper reply from the former one tho but I've stopped going 😬🤞 i gave them a letter last week. The letter was acknowledged but they said we might still have to talk about it? But anyway I prefer my current sched now (started today)

Newer one also feels more organized :> def a plus
