we’ve clearly seen that dazai had devolped as a character. when sigma asked dazai why he has choosen them instead of any other useful tool that gogol offered to him, dazai says that he wanted to use sigma’s ability to find out fyodor’s plans to save the ADA and also to save sigma from being discarded by gogol and fyodor again. sigma kinda shocked that dazai did this not just to save the ADA but to save him as well, and then we go back to what odasaku said: “be on the side that saves people. If both sides are the same, then choose to become a good person. save the weak, protect the orphaned. you might not see a great difference between right and wrong, but... saving others is something just a bit wonderful.”

dazai has changed, he’s not the same desperate and hopeless teen held by the strings of the mafia. he’s built a new life, now there are people who he’s clearly fond of (the ADA) and a new way of seeing life in general, he’s saving lives as a detective and now he’ll be saving sigma’s to fulfill odasaku’s promise.

when i read chapter 101, i thought that dazai was bluffing in his discurse to chuuya and not really being serious about killing him in general. but looking at it now, it makes sense dazai thinking his plan of getting both chuuya and fyodor killed would be successful, i as well thought that the water was stronger than chuuya’s ability (MY BAD I KNOW) and if we look through, dazai and chuuya were 4 years appart from each other, they might know each other really well, but do they still know each other after 4 years?

chuuya grew much stronger, dazai admits this (in the dungeon scene ig) and his ability never failed to surprise dazai each time. chuuya also doesn’t know the new dazai, how that depressed suicidal maniac suddenly started to care about people. there’s simply no space for them in each other’s lives anymore, especially in dazai’s, because chuuya is a reminder of every sin he’s made in all those years and a vivid memory of his insanity
