NVIDIA DDS Utilities Download

Recently, I have not been able to get the download for the DDS Utilities to work on NVIDIA’s website (the download button doesn’t work, it just loads for a second and does nothing. I tested this on multiple devices). All the alternate downloads just link back to the broken NVIDIA site.

This is a big problem for new CC creators who want to work with textures in SimPE.

I had the file on my laptop, so I uploaded a mirror to my site & SFS (assuming that it’s actually working.)

On a slightly more serious note, I noticed that 2nd version is a bit... not great, so I added some more opacity here and there, and removed some in other places, and voila.

Important note: if you have one of previous versions, you’ll need to delete it manually. I've only overwritten old files and renamed them, so they’ll conflict with each other!

Hi. Yes, I use GIMP for photo editing and creating CC, and Canva (online tool) for creating previews with text, headers, etc.

Hello! I don’t use PS, so no, I do not have a psd. However, IIRC, OG creator published their psd (I used it originally), so maybe you could try to find it on their tumblr?

I've been playing Stardew Valley this summer a lot and I have some hot takes (tm) :

1. I lowkey hate Demetrius.

2. As an architecture student, I'm beyond livid about Sebastian's living conditions. You want to tell me that Maru has her own entrance from her room and Demetrius has a lab with nice window and Seb somehow ended in a basement as both his living and working space? Without a window or even (iirc) a vent?* Excuse me? And Robin is capable of making house extensions an she did nothing about it for years? I cannot blame Sebastian for wanting to get out of this house, poor dude probably suffers from seasonal depression all year long. (And, of course, there's a massive issue with his parents playing favourites.)

*Yes, I case you didn't know, access to sunlight and fresh air is a must in places where people spend most of their time indoors. I'm not sure about the rest of the world, but where I live, it's demanded by law.

I think that polycounts do matter in Sims 2

Seeing some ppl now claim that poly don’t matter and i can’t stay silent and not offer the opposite opinion on this, i’m not saying it’s 100% correct, but for those who have no idea how it all works it might be good to hear both sides of this controversion of “high vs. low poly” thing. You can read “pro-high” poly debate here. Also want to say that i have nthn against those ppl, just have diff opinion, so i hope it won’t be taken as a hostility or smthn.

Just to add my big brain, long wall of text two cents:

The harsh truth is that most custom content is made by hobbyists who’ve likely learned all they know about 3D modelign from other simmers. Creating 3d models that are simultaneously beautiful, detailed, well optimized and reasonable in their polycounts takes knowledge, time and specific tools. (I’ll share some ressources on this later in the post.)

I don’t think the people who convert amateur-made high poly meshes to the Sims 2 should get shit on for those meshes being heavy, unoptimized, or maladapted to an old rendering engine. You can only do so much with Milkshape or Blender’s decimate functions. And retopologizing a mesh by hand takes much more time and effort that I’d expect anyone to put into fulfilling a free request. If you want to use a Sims 4 creator’s straight-out-of-Marvelous-Designer clothing in your game, be prepared for it not to be perfect. And if you are the person converting it, please be honest about the issues the item might have.
