“But piece by piece, he collected me up off the ground, where you abandoned things, yeah piece by piece, he filled the holes that you burned in me”
I love the juxtaposition of these scenes and what it represents:
Standing face to face, Rupert doesn’t allow Rebecca to even breathe, he takes away her confidence, making her shrink and feel small and he intentionally hurts her with the most vile thing he could do, having with someone else what she always wanted most.
Ted, on the other hand, gives her the opportunity to have the courage and the strength to be completely herself and free with the most honorable thing, kindness and forgiveness.
Ted is everything Rupert never was and gives her everything Rupert never did. And I am convinced that eventually that will include love as well.
