The Day of Quiet is a time of reflection–a day to think about the past in order to pave the way for a brighter future. Those in the modern day don’t know about the origins of this holiday. They don’t know the context because history has been twisted to suit the purposes of those that have survived into the future. The obscuring of facts until they become myth was done in the name of protection–protection against further conflict, protection against survivor’s guilt, and to ensure that the world remains intact and its people live in peace.
As it’s a holiday, stores are closed, and as it’s a solemn day, the usual hustle and bustle of Shroom City is gone. In the gray gloom of winter, candles shine in the windows of apartments across the city except for one.
At the top of Star Tower, a teenager sits alone in the middle of a dark, empty apartment. Ever since his first appearance as one of the hosts of the third Mario Party tournament three years prior, he’s been living in Shroom City, working as the main host for Shroom City’s never ending party tournaments. He can usually be found around town even on his off days, noticeable by his blue tie with an embroidered yellow star and his large hat shaped like a blue die.
But today, they’re wearing an outfit they haven’t worn since they were cursed–a sailor shirt with a pleated skirt, both too small after a growth spurt earlier in the year. They’re embarrassed that the shirt can be considered a crop top, and the skirt ends mid-thigh rather than at the knee, but… They’re alone at home with no intention to leave, a single candle on the floor in front of them shining a dim light in the dark apartment.
A buzz at the door shocks him into rigidity. A voice on the telecom says, “Master Tumble, you have a visitor.”
He can sense the aura of this visitor immediately–dark and tumultuous, barely restrained. The unmistakable aura of someone marked with villainy.
Tumble rises to their feet and ponders their options. When they reach the telecom, they reply, “Who is it?”
“He says his name is Bits, and he comes on behalf of a castle guard from Toad Town.”
Curious. “I’ll see him,” Tumble says.
