START

A couple of years ago I felt like a prolific writer. It seemed like I could write all the time, even though I had an easier time starting a story than finishing it.

I've been feeling - feeling lately, thinking lately, about my purpose, about writing, about what I want to do and be and make.

I've come to a conclusion: just Start.

I'm not coming up with this idea but all of the people I've heard say it are finally sinking in. You can't just wait for the perfect opportunity to start. Instead, just start, and in creating you will creating the opportunities, the reality that you need for your will and desire to combine and make what you want happen.

I'm going to push myself to Start, every day. I'm going to write something and finish it, and I'm going to care more about the process than the result.

Success is merely the accumulation of results. What matters is not to win or lose, but rather that those results exist!

I hope that some of you join me. I'm going to post prompts I create or find for myself. Things are better together. So if anything I said here resonates with you, or any prompts grab your attention, come join me. Let's do this together!

Thinking about Davenport again

goddamnit listening to stolen century again

"Haven't we earned a little wrath?"

Like fuck man your just gonna drop that line and act like I'm Not gonna analyze this man?

Okay so what we know about him

  1. He was extremely professional at first. Not cold I suspect, but very intent upon garnering and deserving the respect of the crew to the point that they hardly knew him until merle ended up getting to know him in cycle 1
  2. We know he felt uncomfortable trying to save people from planets by bringing them on the ship because he needed to insure the crew's safety and simalarly was willing to leave behind the plane they spent most of canon on in order to keep the crew safe
  3. We know that from Lucretias perspective he appeared to be only about his work and... well I'll get back to this one in a second
  4. There is a deep well of anger bubbling just below the surface
  5. He helped develop the bond engine in under a year, mastered illusory magics in under a year, and then went on to become a Level fucking 17 artificer with the ability to Weild Time
  6. His biggest regret is not making Lucretia feel heard
  7. He loves a good party. And this is the point that gets me. This is the point that makes him very interesting

Because with much of this you can paint a clear picture of a stern gnome with a heart of gold who care for his crew like family.

But that is only what he is under frankly inconceivable levels of pressure. Because as soon as the pressure is off

  • he's leading crews into dangerous adventures,
  • he's cracking jokes to his enemy's face while surrounded by her crew,
  • Then proceeds to throw a party there and This Is Routine
  • he's a fan of professional wrestling
  • and he loves music so much that he made his armour out of steel drums when literally any other material would have been easier to work with.

So now is when I get back to the point of him only having his name left.

I dont think Lucretia knew him very well.

I think that those semi-professional boundaries either never fully left for them or if they did, they shifted with time to a dynamic where Lucretia never fully understood Davenport (perhaps almost parent-child in nature)

Because it's not that there was nothing but his work, I think it's that she didn't know enough about the story she was rewriting and she cut away swathes of material that she simply didnt know existed

Davenport was a very accomplished gnome, it's impossible that he had done Nothing in his whole life until the light of creation dropped and kicked his space fascination into high gear. And besides that he had to have had a childhood, parents, family.

I think Lucretia messed up and took more than she needed to and left Davenport trapped in his own head for a decade and I dont think that was her intention but it sucks

He's just a very interesting dude and I love thinking about him

Okay, no. Fuck this shit.

I can't put into words how much I'm not on board with this. I can't, for my life, understand people who pirate songs in today's reality.

Like, if the situation with Spotify was fragmented like video streaming, sure. But it just isn't. Barely any songs aren't on there. This should be a consumer's dream.

Aren't y'all forgetting that making music is fucking work??

I won't at all complain about people who just don't have the money to buy music (tho ya could also accept the ads but okay), BUT, this meme just screams "We're entitle to free shit!".

And that's been pissing me off for a while now.

spotify barely pays artists shit anyway, just get the album on bandcamp

actually ill add some sources too

if youre only listening to someones music through youtube and spotify you might as well pirate. just make a one time payment on bandcamp if you care for the artist

as a child i thought it'd be important to establish secret code phrases with everyone i knew, in the event that i had to quickly distinguish them from their evil identical twin. like if they're standing side by side both going "no I'M the real one!" and i have to decide which one to shoot. i'd just be like "oh yeah? what's the password!" and the impostor would go "ummm uhhhh" and my real friend would go "frog ball nine thousand" and i'd fucking blast the other guy away. needless to say this has saved me countless times

basically if youre in the place to educate yourself on these topics and you arent

  1. a prison abolitionist,
  2. a harm reductionist,
  3. for decriminilization,
  4. and giving the land back

i really do not think your assertions of “ACAB” or “be gay do crimes” or “revolution” hold much weight

this is getting a lot of questions that could be solved with a google search into any of these topics, so i just want to respond with my own that isn’t: if you advocate for abolishing the police force but don’t support prison abolition for [x] reason—what happens to prisons in a post-police society?

you might come up with several answers here.

  1. shit, i don’t know. we need prisons as prisons are to A) withhold certain people from harming their communities, B) punish certain people, C) kill certain people.
  2. uh, i guess i can kind of answer this. the criminal justice system still exists. why don’t we just leave those people in charge? they’re not cops! and we should definitely let people who have committed non-violent offenses go. drug charges are stupid.
  3. ok, i feel a little more confident answering this. we need to change the prison model for the better and follow the example of countries with restorative justice practices. incarcerated people need better access to healthcare and education, as well as access to opportunifies post-prison so that they are less likely to face reincarceration.
  4. wait. if we’re abolishing the police for upholding white supremacy and terrorizing marginalized communities, we need to abolish a lot of shit. restorative justice sounds cool, i agree with that guy above. but shouldn’t these efforts be run by the communities affected? wasn’t the problem a white supremacist state? wasn’t the goal community terrorism? wasn’t the power taken out of our hands, especially the hands of people being systematically criminalized? i think i have things to read about.

anyway, whatever your conclusion: here are some things to read about.

if you have trouble getting ahold of any reading materials i can usually find you a pdf if you DM me. if you need epub i can’t guarantee i can get one for you, but i can try.

if any minors are following me

always make sure to start forging parents' signatures on the first day of class. that way, your teachers won't know that you've been forging signatures for the rest of the year

hey I'm seeing some concerned parents and teachers in the notes, and I just want to say:

My friend is telling me about guy he dated who was some hyper credentialed expert in nuclear science and was constantly getting turned down for jobs and people told him hey it’s probably your very explicit sex/kink Instagram publicly available under your real name and he said yeah probably but this is how I want to live my life

Isn't it weird that employees are expected to be representative of their job at all times? Like why should it be normal to disqualify an extremely qualified candidate based on a kink? Why is a morality clause a normal addendum to an employee contract?

thank you for this addition. exactly. exactly.
