I don’t know if this is a metaphor for trans deadnames, but for women’s surnames, it’s absurd. In my country, women KEEP their names, and children get their father’s surname and then their mother’s. Nobody should have to take anyone’s name, lord knows I’m not losing either of my surnames just to get someone else’s. I’d rather have 3 whole ass surnames.

It IS in fact a metaphor for deadnaming, but many people from English-speaking countries have been commenting that it’s hard to tell because people over here do, in fact, act just like this around women’s names.
