“And…just who even killed her?”
“That’s the billion-yen question, isn’t it?” He sighs. “I’ve been trying to figure that out. I think her death holds the key to all this. But I just keep hitting wall after wall, and nobody wants to tell me anything! Hitomi’s hiding something from me, #89 isn’t going to tell me anything unless I force it out of him, and Moma turned out to be a dead end.”
“Who do you think killed her, though?” Mizuki asks.
“I…I think it was Hitomi’s ex-boyfriend,” he confesses. “Though Hitomi denied it, which means she knows some reason it couldn’t have been him. But whatever it is, she hasn’t told me.”
“Why wouldn’t she?”
He pauses. That’s…a good question, actually, and one he hasn’t spent much time considering between all of his running around for clues. But he does have an answer.
“I thought maybe she was in denial. Because she still probably loves him,” Date says. “Number 89 is her ex. And he was the one who implied he killed her in the first place.”

Coming in last-minute with some AITSF Mizuki Route fic. I am very very close to finishing this, I think.
“Maybe all of us should be in this conversation,” she says. “But…uh, Date told me recently that he thinks the two of us are half-siblings.”
“That…doesn’t make any sense.” Mom frowns. “It can’t be. Could it?”
“He—” Iris points at her own head to indicate who she’s talking about. “—said something similar to me. He didn’t deny it outright, but he did say something about Date not really being his son.”
“So Sejima’s son killed my best friend,” Mom says, her tone growing cold. “That man couldn’t have grown up to be Date. They wouldn’t have hired someone like that. He was…unstable.”
Iris has heard similar sentiments before about Saito. She wonders if Mom knows what happened to him.

mizuki route fic has gone several places I did not think it would go. got another Somnium in the works for the next time I decide to pick back up writing this that I'm looking forward to. but for now...uh...
“Is he implying that…” “Bear in mind that he could be lying,” Aiba answers. “But yes, I believe he is attempting to imply that he was responsible for her death.” The Original Cyclops Serial Killer could not have committed these crimes.

Happy end of March! I don't know why AO3 decided to forward-date it to April 1st. This chapter has very little ship related developments and is just groundwork for post-timeskip developments. Also, we passed 10k! 🥳
