Heyo, guys! As some of you might know, I decided to participate in the #Unrealbjornament3 this year after a friend made me aware of its existence. If you want to know more about what the Tournament is, you can look it up on the Firemagazine Forums! The prompt for the first round was "It came from nature", this is what I came up with. This piece is something far out of my comfort zone, it might be one of the biggest paintings I've done in quite a while! I am simply too lazy to write a longer caption tbh- I really am just vibing. The piece went through many concepts and poses before getting to its current stage- I'm very glad I was able to solve all those problems in time!! This is my entry for the #ProkoChallenge ! I simply don't have the words to describe how much energy this piece cost me. I probably spent a total of 16 hours in two days on the painting, I really put a lot of love into it! I am exhausted, but at the same time, I am immensely proud of how this image turned out and how much dedication is laying behind it. Probably my favourite thing about my painting process, beside the rendering, is the learning aspect. The bigger the piece, the more I learn, and with this one here it's no different. Be it the background, the anatomy, the rendering technique or some new Photoshop features- I gained a lot of knowledge through this painting alone, and I think that's one of the most beautiful things in art. Every time I reach a milestone in my art it translates into a piece that I'm genuinely startled by- I think this is one of those! I have always wanted to be able to paint figures in a convincing way- And I have gained a new load of confidence that I'm inching closer to that goal day by day. Heyo! This is my side of an Art Trade I did with @/JKSSN_MinE on Twitter! This Character is called Mac, and he is a Eurasian Red Squirrel living in a Zootopia esque world in the 1940's - 50's. He has magical powers and lives in an Orphanage, as I understood it. Had lots of fun painting him, I really need to work on my clothing and fur painting skills, so this was a great exercise for me! Ayy, I'm done with the Long Boi! I feel like I should kinda start naming my pieces properly, because obviously things like ''Long Boi'' aren't gonna cut it in the long run. When I looked at the image for a while the body posture, small waist and metallic dog chain kind of reminded me of a Greyhound, so I think something along the lines of ''Redhound'' is very fitting! (Red referring to the skin. Orange/ pale doesn't have the same ting) Anyway! I added a metal chain around its neck, I think it adds a nice narrative to the character! I got inspired of the leash concept by one of @Borodante 's pieces, ''Human Centipede'', by the way! His Art is incredibly inspiring and his Youtube videos are some of the greatest and most educational Tutorials I've ever seen. If you're into painting and want to learn about the process (Or literally just watch super interesting and entertaining painting videos) , Borodante is my 1# recommendation for you. I've also rendered out the skin and muscles, which I've struggled a TON with. If I had to guess, I think I've lost track of the three dimensionality and form of the piece, at which point I had no grasp on the lighting anymore whatsoever- which led to me over- and repainting the same areas way too often. At some point though, I took my time and compared the current image with the earlier stages of the piece and tried to analyse what went wrong and what I have to change to make the piece as appealing as it was before the rendering. Then I decided to take the current piece, and erase out the parts that I was unhappy with, revealing the early stages of the piece. At that point I was able to begin painting more focused and properly. Yo bois! Yesterday I've listened to a video about 'Erratas', and in the video, a computer-generated police sketch was shown, and the face shown was incredibly unsettling. With that, I decided to paint a new creature portrait with inspiration taken from that picture. But honestly it just looks like the fucking Monster's Inc. meme I experimented with the bucket tool which lead to spots and lines all over the skin- and I decided to go along with it, and it resulted in this odd broken skin texture. Originally, I wanted to make this piece black and white. But I can simply never get myself to just throw away all of the beautiful opportunities colour gives me in my paintings. :,) Still, I don't regret that decision one bit! I'm happy with how it turned out, and I love the different textures and hard edges I can achieve with my new Photoshop brushes. Finally managed to finish another piece! This time, it's my first proper painting done in Photoshop in years (I usually use Corel Painter Essentials 5). I went and downloaded some proper painting brushes and started work yesterday evening. Im really happy with how it turned out, and with the suggestions of some nice people in a Discord server I added some dirt spots and veins on the head! Not too much thought behind this creature, I simply started sketching an interesting concept and went straight to painting. Finally, I got a new Horror piece to post! I'm super proud of the rendering on this one and I think it captures the exact vibe I like to go for! I struggled with figuring out a background, after some trial and error, and after a bit of asking around, I decided on a stoney surface that he materializes from. And damn, I REALLY do love adding teeth to my creatures, huh? It's not even a conscious decision of ''I want to have a teeth theme going on my account'', I just add 'em and it looks scary, woop. I'm at my father's for the holidays which means i can use Photoshop to paint, which in turn means I can paint without setting my house on fire in anger of the Corel Painter Interface! Yo yo yo! Winter holidays in Saxony started and now I am able to truly vibe again! This piece I've spent over 8 hours on, I am super glad with the result. You might've noticed my art has steered away from horror and stuff like that in the past few months- I don't think it's a permanent change, but I do feel like I'm gonna do a lot of concept stuff on top of the horror.
