A/N: As usual, this idea grew from the tiniest thought and turned into this angsty little fic. Takes place post “The Livelong Day”.

It All Adds Up

“Remind Mr. Deeks I want this all out of the office by tomorrow,” Hetty instructed Kensi on her way out. Kensi paused in the process of packing up for the night. Everyone else had left long before her, Deeks trying to hide his disappointment through a heavy layer of jokes.

Hetty had already moved on by the time Kensi turned around, assuming that Kensi would do exactly as she said.

“Why did you do that?” she asked Hetty’s retreating back. It took Hetty a moment to respond, perhaps thinking Kensi was speaking to someone else.

“I don’t know what you’re referring to, Ms. Blye.” Hetty shrugged her minute shoulders, managing to make the shift of movement elegant.

“I’m talking about the way you just…destroyed Deeks’ train.”

“Oh. Well, of course I had no way of knowing what would happen. It was an innocent accident,” Hetty explained. “Besides, it was just a toy.”

“Which belonged to Deeks.”

“I didn’t realize there’d be so much upset over a frivolous object, Ms. Blye. My goodness.” She gave Kensi a incredulous look, as though she were a child throwing a hissy fit.

“I don’t care how silly you might think it is, Deeks obviously cared about that train set. And you took that moment of joy away from him.” Kensi said. She’d hoped that Hetty would start to understand where she was coming from, but instead, she merely looked as bewildered as at the start of the conversation.

Pressing her lips together, Kensi pushed down the irritation that suddenly welled within her.

“Hetty, Deeks has struggled since he came back. Maybe I shouldn’t say it, but we all know that what Sidorov did to him has changed him. All these months he’s been searching for something to cling to. First with the motorcycle, then exercise. This is the first thing he’s been excited about in months that isn’t also risky or violate some rule. Why would you take that from him?” She heard the plaintive tone her voice had taken on, but couldn’t squelch it. She hated seeing Deeks in pain, especially when it could be avoided.

“You seem to think that I’m mounting some kind of personal attack against him,” Hetty commented, and her continued calm made Kensi want to shake something.

“It’s kind of hard not to think that way when you confiscated Deeks’ motorcycle and his walking pad,” Kensi told her.

“I have—”

“Rules. Yes, I know,” Kensi interrupted. “Those rules don’t give you the right to take or ruin Deeks’ personal property. Especially now.”

Hetty pursed her lips, nodding slowly. When she looked up again, she eyed Kensi gravely. “I thank you for your concern, Ms. Blye. And should I find a replacement, I’ll be sure to reimburse Deeks damaged train. Until then, I will keep the other items which are both dangerous and distracting. Until then, I suggest you examine why this bothers you so much. Have a good night.”

Kensi watched her go, feeling frustrated and defeated.

The long story no one asked for!

So, my trip to LA. Holy crap what an adventure! Absolute whirlwind experience but totally amazing!

So last Tuesday, at like noon my time, the main casting director for NCIS and NCIS: LA posted on Instagram about an NCIS-Verse themed picket event the following day at 9am. Now, I live in Phoenix, which is about a 7 hour drive away from LA. It's doable alone, but a bit hard to go there and back in a day by yourself. But I decided I'd do it if I had to!

As an alternative, I looked at flights and buses, and found that Greyhound prices were about the equivalent of what gas would cost me, and that sold me. Bought the ticket and had about 5 hours to get ready to leave on an overnight bus. So I left my house at 10pm, parked at my friend's house, took the light rail to the bus stop, and got on a way too cramped bus at 11:30pm and headed to LA!

We got into Downtown LA at 8am. I caught an Uber to a neighborhood adjacent to Paramount Studios, got some coffee and walked toward the gates.

A little preface before we get to the rest of the stuff you guys ACTUALLY want to hear about. So, when I posted the Rosa pop on Instagram before the series finale, Natalia (the actress who plays Rosa), followed the account, and reached out, mentioning she would love a Rosa Pop of her own. I told her I could make her one if she wanted. When I posted to my insta-stories about potentially coming to the Strike that day, she messaged me with a "I hope I'll get to see you there!" So part of the 5 hours I had to get ready included finishing painting the Pop I'd created for her.

AT THE STRIKE

After checking in, I got a SAG strike sign and started wandering around. I saw Medalion (Fatima) and Kavi (Shyla) and Gemmill from afar, but was too chicken to approach any of them at that moment. I reached out to Natalia via IG and she said she was nearly there. A few minutes later, she and her boyfriend Nick arrived, and I went up to them. I presented her with her pop but offered to hang onto it for the time being (she only had a small bag with her, and the pop was in a box). She in return, had a gift for me! She framed a copy of the call sheet and sides (that day's script pages) from one of the days of filming the S13 finale episode! Totally unexpected and so sweet!

So the three of us walk around in the circles in front of one of the gates for a bit, and then we wandered over to the writer's strike checkin booth, where there was a small sign, indicating the "NCIS" meetup was at the OTHER gate. We head over there, and Natalia immediately spots a few of the writers/actors and we head their way. She introduces me to them - I think at this point it was Justin, Matt, and Duncan (Castor/COD's stand in -- he loved the Hetty pop!) - and we chat for a bit. I mentioned how my desire to do film work was started by all of our "ideas" we'd come up with for alternative plots, and one of them actually asked me what my favorite idea was! I half blanked, half chickened out, and kinda fumbled my way through the question.

After that, I ended up behind Kavi while we were stopped at the crosswalk, and I actually worked up the nerve to introduce myself to her. Told her how much fun I found Shyla, etc. She loved the Pops, and was so shocked that I came from Phoenix, that she started telling EVERYONE she saw about it. Around this time, we noticed Dani was on the corner, talking with other NCIS peeps (I think this is when she was taking the pics with Vanessa, Brian, etc), and Kavi asked me if I'd met her yet. I said no, and she was like "well we have to change that".

A few minutes later, Dani starts walking the circles with the rest of us, and as she passes us, Kavi gets her attention, literally DRAGGING me by my arm to follow her. She again repeats my bus tale, and I get to show her the Kensi pop. This moment was captured as a beautiful candid pic by one of the photographers who has regularly been taking/posting pictures of the strike.

Dani asked if the pop was for her. And, I'll admit, that was not my intention when I went, as the wedding Kensi was a little beat up, having traveled across LA with me 3-4 times by now. But, how could I say no?! So, now wedding Kensi is in the hands of her inspiration! *squee*! Beyond that, Dani and I talked a bit about working in the industry, I mentioned how I wasn't quite decided on where I'd end up, but was looking into writing and creative producing. She admitted to not being so into the writing side of things herself, but she enjoyed the directing/producing/acting side.

As we were standing there talking, we were surrounded by mostly NCIS: LA cast/crew members and someone suggested doing a group picture. I was in the middle of the mass of people, and no one made me move, so I somehow got to take part in the super cool group pic! lol.

I also managed to get one-on-one pics with with Erik Palladino (Sabatino), Don Wallace (Navy SEAL Frank Wallace), and Kavi. I got one with Natalia too, but not on my phone. I saw so many people I recognized from behind the scenes of the show, but didn't get to talk to everyone.

About noon-time I got picked up by the wonderful @anonkp who took me to a delicious lunch in Larchmont Village. Then she dropped me off near the bus station when she had to go back to work. But I had a few more hours to kill until the bus came, so I rode the metro line down to Santa Monica, took a few pics at the beach from far away, made my way back, and got on my bus!

I was REALLY hoping to sleep on my way home. By the time it got dark, it was 9pm and I was running on the short spurts of sleep I got on the super cramped bus on the way in. I wasn't as cramped on this bus, and I had the row to myself this time, so I started to try to nod off for a few hours... and then our A/C died. Just as we entered Arizona, of course. So we made an extra stop on the way home just so we could cool down from the hot bus. I finally pulled into my house at 3am, 29 hours after I'd left the day before.

And that's the crazy adventure I had! But it was an absolutely wonderful experience, and I'd happily do it again if given the opportunity! lol. (Even if I'll probably be remembered as "the girl with the dolls" from here on out!) I'm probably forgetting 800 things, but this is already too long! 😂😂

Kensi and Deeks out with the twins:

***

Kensi: Oh my god, I’m starving! Can you grab me something from the food court?

Deeks: Of course. Pizza or Chinese?

Kensi, with Sophia in one arm: Ooh…how about egg rolls with a side of pizza?

Deeks: Fusion, I like it.

Kensi: Here, let me grab Caleb first. I need to nurse him.

A random woman as Kensi starts to pull him out of the carrier: Oh, let me help you, grandma.

Deeks, raising his eyebrows in surprise as the woman takes Caleb out and hands her to Kensi.

Woman: Grandchildren are just the best, aren’t they?

Kensi, tightly: Actually, I’m their mother.

Woman, mortified: Oh! It’s just, I saw you with your teenager before and assumed…I’m so sorry. You know, I’m just going to find my daughter.

Kensi, glaring after her. She spins to face Deeks: Do I look old enough to be a grandmother?

Deeks, instantly: Only if you were the youngest one on the face of the earth.

Kensi rolls her eyes.

Deeks: I’m serious. That lady was crazy.

Kensi: You’re the best. Now I’m gonna need a cinnamon roll to go with my pizza.

A/N: Based on a similar thing that happened to my mom. Except she was about 45-46 at the time.

WOW they are really going all in with these previouslies.

SO MANY STORIES!

This is a very darkly lit scene. I guess they wanted to stick to what they know. But this is the last of 2 hours we get of this show. I WANT TO SEE IT ALL! I WANT TO SEE EVERYTHING! I AM OLD! THIS SHOW HAS BEEN ON 14 FREAKING YEARS! NONE OF US WHO STARTED WITH IT ARE YOUNG ANYMORE!

Beep beep beep beep.

BOOM!

CLASSIC.

What other show loves explosions this much?

On a positive note, in my video editing class, I learned how to color grade, which means I learned how to counteract all the darkening they've done to the show (to a point, since I don't have the original quality footage).

But, if there's ever a scene you want "fixed" (darkness, color cast, etc) let me know, and I'll take care of it for you!

Anonymous asked:

Deeks saying "you rockin' those torn-up Levis was a big part of our thing." and now I'm trying to think about moments involving those jeans 😅

Hi anon!

This got lost in my asks, so sorry! I don’t remember Kensi’s jeans being of particular conversation throughout their relationship. Kensi does wear ripped jeans quite frequently, like in the Densi breakfast scene in “Command and Control”. I just don’t know that it was ever mentioned as part of their thing (though I’m sure Deeks is a big fan of Kensi in jeans). Really, I would think Deeks’ jeans play a bigger part given the number of times Kensi’s checked him out or smacked his butt.

Anyway, that’s all I got. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Kensi jeans got mentioned in S3. (Bullpen) Deeks noticed Kensi not wearing new jeans (how he knew was never discussed) after her nite out with Nell at monster truck rally

Olé, Olé, Olé

A/N: Haven’t been on the baby train for awhile and I’m not completely yet but here’s a little something.

••••

“Well, that’s officially it. Done with all law enforcement entities.” Placing the guns back in their rightful places, Deeks can feel his heart rate speed up a bit. It’s the feeling he fully expected when they decided to call it quits, full-on euphoria. And it’s absolutely amazing.

“It’s kinda weird. I thought I’d be more sad.”

He pulls the gate shut and turns around meeting his now former partner’s eyes. “You do realize you have tears in your eyes, right?”

“That’s not what that’s about.” She does her best to keep the strain out of her voice but fails once she sees the worry in his eyes. Those beautiful cerulean blues.

“Don’t tell me you changed your mind.”

The brunette shakes her head, letting the unshed tears slip from her eyes as he wraps his arms around her waist, pulling her body into his. Her quickening heart rate immediately starts to slow down as his forehead meets hers. Releasing a calming breath, she’s finally able to get her words together.  “I didn’t. It’s just so much of our life has happened because of this place. I never expected any of it when I joined. My sole mission was to find my dad’s killer and now I’m walking away willingly, something my 20-year-old self never imagined, with a life I never in my wildest dreams could’ve conjured up.”

“You did good, baby. Your dad would be so proud of you.”

A small smile crosses her face. “Yeah.” Something about his words suddenly hit her in the chest, and she burrows her head in his chest letting all she’s feeling come out fully. “He’s gonna miss so much…already has.”

“Oh, baby.” The former investigator can feel tears well in his eyes as she continues to shake in his arms. Pulling her closer to him, he leaves no space between them. He knew it was gonna hit her hard eventually, but didn’t expect it today.

“You know sometimes I imagine what it would’ve been like when I introduced you to him.”

“If he’s wearing an old Touching Wood t-shirt and rocking a mullet wig when I step through the door we have the same image.”

She lets out a teary-eyed laugh as the snot dripping from her nose makes its way onto his t-shirt. “It’s like we have one mind.” She quickly sobers when a new wave of sadness crashes over her. “Then there’s our wedding day, him meeting Rosa and teaching her all the stuff he taught me and…”

“What?”

“Being in the waiting room, nervously tapping his foot right along with Granger and Killbride as they wait for the baby to be born.”

He pulls back, hands flying to her shoulders as he pulls her back at the same time. Brow furrowed he feels himself being to break out into a cold sweat. “Whose baby?”

“Kensi and Marty’s.” She nervously bites her lip as the confession leaves her lips and makes its way to his ears.
