“I’m workshopping nicknames. I have to make my affection for you known somehow, evidently.” It’s tongue in cheek, figuratively at first, then literally, for a few smirking seconds. When he’s quiet, they’re quiet, and when he makes something of a confession, they take it as a victory in a gracious kind of way. Lithe competitiveness is glad to have played the truth out of him, but for the most part they’re comforted, and maybe a little sad. A beat of silence passes and if he lets them, Kennedy takes his hand by the wrist for a few paces, slipping down and holding palm to palm before letting go again. It’s a simple reply, their best effort at not making conversation out of something he doesn’t want to talk about: they would prefer it if Bishop were to come back in one piece, too.

he understands the meaning of their action but that doesn’t make it any less odd. people don’t hold his hand, don’t touch him like that. not anymore. not for a long time. he can’t quite decide whether or not it’s welcome, but there’s some sort of pang in his chest and he decides that he doesn’t want to address it.

( he’s starved for affection, won’t admit it to himself. which means he definitely won’t be admitting it to anybody else any time soon either. )

he shrugs it all off.

c’mon, then. lead the way, ain’t got a clue where it is i’m goin’.

“Admitting weakness only allows those who take advantage of it an easier route.” She huffed as she decided against moving and then went back to where she had been before, slouched against the wall once more. Her dark eyes laid on her knees, hating the weakness and pain. A fractured rib and, at least, a largely bruised back, though the most likely culprit was a few cracked vertebrate. “Why do you care anyway? It’s not like we’re the best of friends.”

god knows why, but i don’t much like seein’ folks sufferin’ when they don’t gotta.  she seems determined to, however. there isn’t a bit of him that thinks to simply leave her there after she shows that she can’t get herself moving.  ain’t no shame in needin’ help. i got a horse, i can get you somewhere. to someone you trust.

There was absolutely no way Alice could move the man physically of her own doing and she didn’t need a second glance to tell her so.  Alice wasn’t the madam of the saloon ( never had the ambition to go for it ) and though she knew she had an obligation to make sure money kept coming in, if this was the hand she was dealt, this was what she was going to work with.  If the madam deemed it necessary the ( possibly dead ) man be moved, she could pay off some gentlemen to get it done.

“Moving tables sounds fair enough to me.”  Alice decreed.  “You didn’t know him at all, did you?”  She asked, gesturing to the man - who she’d be happy to see far away from where anyone would be sitting and trying to enjoy themselves this evening.

his actions answer that question easily enough: bishop pilfers the last half-full bottle of booze on the table and takes a quick swig as he heads to a new one. he’ll be fine ( bishop would do something if there were any real risk, and not just because of his samaritan reflex ) but maybe not so appreciative of his choices whenever he wakes up.

he wanted to celebrate some kinda thing. never seen him before in my life.  it was his first bounty or something. bishop had just wanted a drink and they were going free.  doubt he’ll remember me even if i meet him again. --you not recognise him either? seemed the type who might be a regular.
