you don’t see selena gomez talking about the shittiness of north korea and it’s autocratic government. you don’t see bts speaking on the issues palestinians are facing right now. you don’t see harry styles talking about income inequality in the united states.

so why are these fucking minecraft youtubers expected to know absolutely everything about every possible problem going on in the world right now as well as being expected to speak on it whenever people bring it up.

half of these people are fucking teenagers who wanted to make content on the internet because it interested them. they aren’t activists. they didn’t sign up to be activists. stop treating them like one.

they are content creators existing to provide content. entertainment. if they want to use their platform that they built to speak on issues that they’re passionate about? great! amazing! but this entire belief that if they don’t speak on something or aren’t educated on a problem means they’re racist or homophobic or transphobic or literally anything else is such a dangerous mindset to have.

content creators are not activists. they don’t owe you anything. it’s great if they feel they are responsible and educated enough to speak on these issues and help people, but expecting them to do anything other than what they’re signed up for, which is creating content for entertainment is a fools dream that shouldn’t be indulged.

you don’t see older fandoms asking their ccs to say “can you please say gay rights?” or asking for their opinion on racial issues.

short answer: no, quite the opposite actually

long answer: after seeing that post make its rounds yesterday, i posted on reddit detailing my attempt to get in contact with the production lead, phyre, to have her fact-check the screenshots from that post. we talked, she answered all my questions and pretty much debunked the claim that they're only being given "$250 total" for their work. case closed.

and then dream himself came swinging from behind with a proverbial metal folding chair :P

he left an essay in the comments of my post, complete with citations! for those of you unfamiliar with reddit, here is his post + the screenshots of his discord convos that he linked

the narrative that dream is taking advantage of his young fans and exploiting them for cheap/free labor is false, and in fact, he paid them 3x the final amount. once the original deadline was missed, he didn't rush them further and gave them extra time. this can all be corroborated by phyre herself on twitter.

Unfriendly reminder that content creators are literally just ordinary people like you and if you feel the need to harass them, doxx them and send them death threats over video games, minor mistakes and honest accidents that makes you the asshole actually :)

(warning this is very long, but please read. i think some of you need to hear this)

alright. MCC. what the hell happened?

listen. i love Scott. I really do. but in MY opinion he shouldn't have been allowed to test the map if he was playing in MCC. DO NOT SEND HIM HATE. IF YOU DO FUCK YOU.

there are testers for a reason. 40 of them. i noticed a lot of people talking about this on twitter. and I thought i would give my input.

MCC this month sucked. I'm sorry. but it did. there was a lot that happened. the vibes this time just felt very off. i think it was because everything was different.

Scott knew the Ace Race map. he practiced it. before MCC. that is extremely unfair to the other teams. if you play in MCC then you shouldn't be able to test the maps. doesn't matter if he works for NoxCrew. he blatantly lied about it. he said himself on his stream that he didn't know the map.

the glitches with Hbomb. now, this wasn't his fault at all. there's obviously going to be glitches. but there's a rule in MCC that if you find a glitch, DO NOT use it to your advantage. and he did. he admitted to that as well on stream.

This happened to Illumina on the practice map like one or two MCC's ago. and they banned him for glitching on accident. ON THE PRACTICE MAP FOR GODS SAKE. listen glitch or not he didn't deserve to get banned. Hbomb did this on the OFFICIAL MAP. something needs to happen.

I'm sure a lot of you noticed that there were a lot of games removed. Like parkour warrior. One Dream was especially good at. they took that away because he was to good and finished i to fast. isn't that the point of the game? to see who can finish it in the fastest time?

you can tell the vibe this MCC was off. its been a little over 5 months since any of them have streamed MCC. of course they're going to be nervous.

Now i was rooting for the Green Guardians, Blue Bats and Red Rabbits. I really do think that all of these teams were robbed.

there are also quiet a few people sending hate to Quackity. it was only his fourth MCC. he's still new to this. don't blame him. because it wasn't his fault for the Green Guardians not winning.

I think there was another rule. That if you play in MCC that you have to stream it. I'm not sure tho. that's what I've been told.

Dream ended stream early so he could go and support Sapnap since he was in one of the two teams that made it to dodge bolt. now tell me why people are saying Dream rage quit? and calling him a pussy for 'rage quitting'. no you mother fuckers. he didn't rage quit, he went to SUPPORT HIS BEST FRIEND.

after MCC ended, Sapnap, George, Dream, Quackity, and Punz all reacted to Scott and Hbombs POV. they have a right to be upset. there were some unfair advantages during this MCC.

this obviously wasn't the best MCC. i know a few of you can agree with me. If this was your first MCC. I'm sorry. there was a lot that happened. they won't all be like that. if you want to watch some good POV's for past MCC's, you should watch George's, Tommy's, Dreams, Tubbo's, Sylvee, Kathrine, and Shubble.

I'll say this again. This is MY opinion. you don't have to agree with me. that's fine if you don't but DO NOT send me hate or death threats for seeing this they way I did.

MCC is a fun event. but there are some of you who took it to far by sending hate to the CC's. Some of these things can't be controlled.

peace in the dream smp fandom will only come when people start seeing the characters as complex individuals with the capability of hurting each other and that no one’s hands in this story are clean and people stop acting like anyone’s are

I think some people don’t understand that George/Dream/Sapnap are not like other YouTubers in the sense that they absolutely <will> see what you say about them. They are incredible entrenched in stan culture as you see particularly from George who frequently references it (aka ‘they’re best friends your honour’ and ‘go touch some grass’ and frequent Heatwaves references). They have AO3 accounts and read it for fun, you’ll find they’re liking tweets/fanart about them that they’re not even tagged in because they search for it: they want to keep up with how they’re perceived.

This is of course perfectly valid as they have every right to know about the content that is being made about ~them~ but I also think it’s a really big indicator that people should watch what insults they dish out on Twitter because the likelihood is they will see it. If you’re commenting on their looks and their personality, saying that you suddenly ‘gained taste’ because you stopped being fans of them, they most likely see that, and then what is actually gained? They now have to mull that over by themselves and make sure their self esteem isn’t tarnished by the (ngl very out of pocket) things people are saying ab them.

Basically just watch what you’re saying. It’s completely fine if you don’t watch them. It’s fine if you’re not a fan of them or their content, of course it is. It’s completely valid if you found that SBI content is better than the Dream Team’s for you so you switched over. But don’t be horrible about it because at the end of the day, they’re young adults who are still new to having millions of eyes watching them at all times

I want to bring this here incase you’re not on Twitter or haven’t heard but a few people from an anti Dream discord are going to make a fake video of him saying the n-word sometime in the near future. If this does happen I just want everyone to be aware of this, reblog to spread the word. I’ve provided the ss below from the convo:

Racism In The TS Fandom

You know the racism issue goes way beyond the b/l.m Roman posts in this fandom.

This racism issue is beyond Thomas and deals more with the culture we have created here in this fandom. It deals a lot with the fact that most Fanders are white and probably not pick up on any racism in their actions.

As I’ve spent time in this fandom, talking to other POC fanders and learning, I realize that there are people in this fandom who feel comfortable saying racist things. There are people here who have biases and refuse to check them.

And I know a bunch of you are young, but you got to listen to POC when we tell you something’s offensive.

A lot of Fanders are queer so here’s a scenario. Say your in another fandom and none of the characters are canonly queer. And most fans are straight. But people will occasionally draw the characters with LGBT stuff? It’s not super popular and while you like it, the fandom tends to not do that. Some LGBTQ+ fans even get harassed for their art

But then someone gets homophobic comments on a post with a straight character with a gay flag saying I’m gay. The artist is straight and has never experienced homophobia and never will. Understandably people are upset so they make art to help. The most popular ones, for the most part, are made by straight folks, most of which tie there art to an event that’s a serious fight for equality for LGBT folks and trying to change homophobia and tagging it with the name of that event. Some of this art ends up being offensive because straight people don’t understand small things that are offensive to gay people

You and other LGBTQ+ people try to call this out. You go, “Hey what your doing is offensive! Don’t!” Some listen, some ignore it, and others start calling you the f-slur. Things only get better when straight people start speaking up, and even then they still spread misinformation. More people get it but people still attack gay folks in the fandom. You make posts but people still divert from the point.

That’s what it’s been like here. For all POC fanders, but particularly black fanders.

Y’all might want me to say “Don’t call people the n-word and its fine” but I’m not going to. Because not saying a racial slur is the least you could do. You don’t get any appreciation for that.

You might think “This is a minority of fanders, it’s not that big a deal” But it is. If racists feel safe here, we’ve created a culture where racist feel fine attacking POC. There’s POC who are hesitant to share there thoughts and call out problematic behavior because of the bullying and hate sent to those who do.

And you might even say “Well POC handled this rudely.” Which is wrong. I’m so so so sorry that a lot of us are so sick of dealing with systematic oppression and with racism that’s supposed to come from “safe places” (Note sarcasm).

Also a lot of us are polite but you all keep trying to “debate” whether something is racist when your white. And you expect kindness from people you hurt? People who already have so many issues beyond this?

Even if your intentions are good, if we tell y’all something is problematic! Listen! We most likely know what we’re talking about and can probably pick up on racism more than you can.

You need to be anti-racist. Look at your own biases, which is something we all need to do, including me. I had to unlearn behavior and problematic mentalities. You need to question things. Ask POC if things are okay. @skyscrapersanddandelions @mxnte and I have said a lot and given great advice you can find on our blogs and I’m sure there is more. If you have more questions ask us if it’s okay to ask us something. (Respect whatever our response is). You can also find stuff for yourself by searching it online. (Especially if it’s a question about if a certain art style is offensive, like references and posts explaining things are out there).

My inbox is open and so are my PMs. I’m usually willing to have a conversation.

Also for the love of god learn the difference between valid criticism and hate. A good portion of this outrage comes from people not understanding the difference.
