Oh how he understood that. The constant fear of being a burden on the one you cared for, the knowledge that every time you were hurt, they were upset, worried. Wondering if, perhaps, it was best for them if you were out of their lives. Would they be happier without you…?
“I do understand. There is… someone I, too, wonder if I cause them misery. I think… perhaps I must, but…” He sighed. “There is no clear answer, my friend. I would say to perhaps try to find yourself in less dangerous situations, but this is Conton. I doubt it is much possible. Still… he has someone by his side who clearly loves him so much. How could he not be happy already?”
Once again, he had a point. Though....it was a relief to hear that she wasn’t the only one dealing with thoughts of this nature. Was this a common insecurity? She wasn’t sure. The romance movies she watched never showed feelings of this matter.
“I’m happy to try and stay out of trouble if I can. But....I really don’t wanna end up like the likes of the women fighters in history, y’know?” Maki explained, rubbing her head. “Miss Videl, Chi-Chi.....they all seemed to resign to a housewife lifestyle once they moved away from fighting all the time. I don’t wanna end up like that, it sounds so boring! It’s not the kind of life I wanna live!”
She bit her lip gently. Would her love expect such for her if they ever tied the knot? Why would she even need to anyways? Wasn’t that just a governmental thing? She couldn’t think.
Her adoptive mother never married her adoptive father, and she still fought all the time. Was that why? Perhaps the paranoia was tapping in....

“A fast way to make money honestly is either selling organs you harvest from onry dudes off to scientists or slipping wallets out of the rich patrollers’ pockets since they’re too careless to put that on lockdown.....”
“Thats on the back of the page!”
“Huh, touche.”
“You really do got a sharp attention to detail, dontcha?”
“Oh! So that nerd really did write down ‘gets the sudden urge to murder old perverts when they come within 5 miles of her’ in his notes about me.”
“I guess it ain’t wrong....could have written worse things....like chomping down cheese at 3 am....”
So she felt as if she was at fault for sustaining damage enough to worry him. Ah… Hytherm understood, to a point. Though he could not relate to worrying a partner, he certainly could understand worrying one who cared for him. He did not know if his advice would be welcomed, but he would try.
“…He loves you, yes?” Hytherm asked, bluntly. “If so, then you are no burden to him. I believe he would tell you so if you asked… and it would be no lie. You shall be injured, my friend. You shall worry him. It is the nature of life. Though I myself have never had one love me as I think he loves you, I, too, have feared I was a burden on one I cared for. A man who was a father to me… yes, I worried him often.”
He offered a quick smile to the Earthling. “Yet he told me it is only natural for us all to worry for the ones we love. Do you not worry for your own love? I am certain you do, as he does for you. It is not a burden to have one care for you so much that they would worry for you. That we deeply worry for others shows how very much we care for them. And that is not such a bad thing, no?”
Hytherm really had a point. Surely being worried about her all the time meant he loved her, right? He cared about her wellbeing and such. Yet, she couldn’t shake this feeling of inherent guilt, some sort of feeling of dissatisfaction on how she handled the relationship.
“I-I suppose so....guess I’ve always been nervous since we’ve fought before...”
That wasn’t an easy time at all. She could still remember the sort of heartbroken feeling she got splitting off from him for a bit after finding out about all his experimentation on innocent people. But...that was in the past now. She shouldn’t still feel upset about it now, right? Yet....
“I never want to make him upset. I want him to be happy and live the life I haven’t ever gotten to have, hence I kinda just....don’t wanna get in the way I guess. Does that make sense?”
“I… see.”
Hytherm sort of knew what holiday she was referring to, as he had heard many Patrollers speak of it. It seemed quite an exciting time for many. Hytherm, unfortunately, had no experience with romance save for one person, and that… was one-sided.
He shook away the memory. “Well… I fear I have not much experience in this matter, but perhaps talking shall help? What would make you feel that you ‘do this romance thing’ incorrectly?”
Maybe he was right, talking would help. Though, she was nervous that he wasn’t quite as knowledgeable on the subject either. Would this to be good to do? Trying wouldn’t hurt....
“Well....um...sometimes I feel like I’m a burden on him. I get hurt a lot, sometimes while trying to protect him or if I get beat up by some dickheads. And, he’s always gotta fix me up and he’s always worried! I try my best to not get hurt so much but.....y’know.....”
