My contribution for this year’s @shinranweek! I wanted to draw for several other prompts, but ugh… real life happens. I managed to do this ficlet + illustrations. Big fat THANK YOU to @mirrorfalls for helping me beta-ing this text and improving it so much!

“Sorry, Shinichi-kun. Girls only.” Damn Sonoko.

Of course, he said nothing. Ran deserved a nice vacation with her best girl-friends, even if it didn’t include him. He had encouraged her to accept the offer and have fun. It was completely ok.

Except no, it wasn’t. He felt jealous as fuck that the Suzuki heiress was having his girlfriend in Australia over Golden Week—the first holiday after he’d gotten his body, his normal life back. He’d give an arm and a leg to have her to himself, somewhere far from everybody else, with no homework or murders or anything other than her to fill his mind.

Fists curled, eyes clouded. Ran was still filling his mind, only from a continent away. Images from the last few weeks were playing across his mind’s-eye like it was a theater screen. He was recreating every minute he had spent with her and their hands under each others’ clothes, and, and—

Oh, how dry his throat was.

He’d thought she would want to go slowly and take her time processing their new relationship, their new… physical closeness. She had blushed through a dozen different shades of red during the first times they had removed their clothes, or touched places that made them squirm in pleasure. But then, he’d been delighted to discover a bolder side of Ran, one that openly enjoyed him and what he could do for her and was not afraid to let go. A major turn-on, if you ask.

Fuck, he missed her so much. It had been only four days, but… fuck. He could still remember so well how her lips had felt on…

BEEP-BEEPBEEP- BEEP… BEEP-BEEPBEEP- BEEP…

Shinichi flinched in his seat. His hand shot out, returned with a phone blaring three big letters across the screen.

“Ran,” he answered.

“Mor-ning, Shinichi! Up already?” She sounded happy.

“Yeah. I need to have some papers done for Megure-keibu before noon.”

“Oh, good. Don’t overdo it, ok? You still need rest…”

“I’ll spend the afternoon at the movies or something. Don’t worry. You guys hitting another beach today?”

“Yes! Actually, we just arrived ten minutes ago. This one’s called Whitehaven, and it’s gorgeous. I’ll show you pictures when I’m back!”

“Sure,” he said, a smile on his face. “Can’t wait to see ‘em.”

Truth be told, beaches had stopped exciting him a while ago. But as long as Ran was with him, he’d smile through a tour of a parking lot.

For a moment, he heard nothing but her breathing, mixed-in with pounding surf. Then: new voices. Girlie voices, calling for Ran and chirping something about a No-Boyfriends Zone. He smirked.

“Call me later? Before bed? Don’t want Sera feeding your phone to the sharks.”

She laughed wholeheartedly, a laugh he wished would sound forever.

“Yeah, I will. Have a nice day, Shinichi!”

“You too.”

He hung the call up and released a sigh. Glancing at the folder containing the forms he needed to fill for the TMPD, he was about to reach when his phone beeped again. This time a message from…

“Sonoko?”
