Announcement: Moments of Always
Hi everyone! Today we have an exciting new project to announce.
Many of you asked us whether we would do a Season 10, and, as you may know, we decided not to do that. Season 9 was an incredibly fun and fulfilling project, but for a number of reasons we didn’t feel that we could commit ourselves to doing it again.
However, many of us - like many of you - aren’t ready to give up these characters yet, so we came up with another idea to keep the story going.
We call it “Moments of Always.”
It will be a series of one-shots (single-chapter stories), each of which explores an incident, event, or theme during the upcoming year. Think of them as snapshots, little glimpses into the characters’ lives over the course of the year.
Here’s what we’ll be doing:
- We’ll take prompts from you, our audience. We’ve got a spreadsheet where we’ll be tracking all the story ideas that we receive.
- We’ll invite fanfic writers to choose from the prompts and write one-shots for them. We’ve got a group of writers already starting to work on this, but we’ll also be opening it up to anyone else who wants to participate!
- We’ll post the stories on the Season 9 fanfiction.net account on Mondays, one story per week, and use the Season 9 twitter and tumblr accounts to promote the project.
Here’s what we won’t be doing:
- We won’t be writing full-length fanfiction “episodes” like we did for Season 9. These stories will be shorter.
- We won’t be writing case-fic. We want to focus more on the characters and relationships, not the detective work. This makes sense especially because, with a baby added to their lives, Castle and Beckett will be shifting their focus and their priorities in similar fashion.
- We don’t have a “season arc” where we plan out the overall plot in advance. This project is more freeform.
- We won’t post stories in chronological order. Since they’re just “snapshots,” with no overall arc, we will simply post stories in the order that they’re completed.
Want to get involved? Here’s what you can do:
- Send us prompts! We have quite a few, but we need more! You can tweet them to us (@castleseason9 on twitter), send them to us here on Tumblr as asks, or email them to momentsofalways@gmail.com. (Check our prompts list first, to make sure your idea isn’t already there.)
- Write! If you think you’d like to write a story for this project, email us at momentsofalways@gmail.com and we’ll send you the instructions.
- Beta! We have a few beta readers on our team already, but we could use more. If you have experience with betaing/editing fanfic, please contact us!
Now that you’re all excited (we hope!), you may be wondering when we’ll start posting. Alas, we can’t answer that yet. We’ll begin posting when we have enough fics in the queue to ensure that you get several uninterrupted weeks of new stories! So stay tuned!
