My theory about Natasha in IM2 is that it was her first solo operation for SHIELD post-defection and Fury designed it specifically to find out if she was going to go feral and kill everyone out of sheer aggravation. It was a close call.

Vormir Revisited

What if Clint and Natasha knew they loved each other, but assumed the other didn’t know how much they cared?

What if they really didn’t know?

What if the first inkling they had that their best friend loved them was that they would fight so hard to be able to die in the other’s place?

What if that explains the smile on Natasha’s lips just before she lets go - “He loves me. He REALLY loves me!”

I know that it’s not likely, but I dreamed this last night and this is the only place I can share it. Months after the movie, this scene is still not letting me go!
