Is this a long offseason already or is it just us? As the summer months stretch before us empty of hockey, we figured… time for a summer fest!
TROPE BINGO? WHAT’S THAT?? A trope bingo is a challenge where participants are given/choose a “bingo card” but instead of numbers, each square contains a trope (in our case, a summer-related trope). The challenge is to create a fanwork per square to create a bingo–a line, or column or diagonal or 4 corners + centre. 5 fanworks for 5 squares.
This is the basis of the fest BUT if you don’t want to do that and prefer just creating some summer-themed fanworks for fun without the challenge, you’re totally welcome to do that and tag your post with the fest’s tag, or post them in the AO3 collection.
SCHEDULE! The fest will last 3 months, from June 1st to August 31st.
For those who like making their own schedule and go at their own pace, you’re free to post whenever you want. If you want to post 5 fanworks in the last week of the fest, that’s okay! For those of you who work better with small deadlines we will issue reminders every 1st and 15th of the month to get. those. fanworks. posted. with the last half of August as an amnesty/catch up period.
RULES We want to keep this as casual and easy as possible.
1. ALL FANWORKS are welcome: fics, graphics, fanmixes (roadtrip playlist anywone?), fanart, fanvids, cross-stitching, you name it, go for it. You can also mix it up if you want, no need to commit to just one type of fanwork.
2. Pairings must include at least a current or ex-Blackhawks player. So if you want to go old school and write some Shaw/Bollig? You can! So long as at least one player in the pairing has worn a Hawks jersey at some point, it’s cool.
3. There is no limit on word count or fanmix length or anything like that. You want to create a bingo line by writing 5 drabbles of perfectly chosen 100-word fics? Cool. No pressure, it’s anything you want.
4. So long as the fanwork is SOMEWHAT (to your judgement) summer-themed, there’s no other limit on the subject matter. All tropes and kinks are welcome with open arms.
5. TEAMS! If you want to team up with some friends (or be paired up with someone) you can! You guys can just choose a bingo card together and try to fill your bingo line as a team (you can collaborate on the same fanworks, or each create your own to fill a line faster)
6. You can combine two square (i.e. tropes) into one fanwork but NO MORE THAN TWO.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE Participating is easy! To do so, follow the following steps:
1. Click HERE and let us know if you are thinking of participating
2. Go HERE and choose a bingo card if this is the option that you’ve chosen (or you can have a look for inspiration if you want)
3. Create some fanworks!
4. Post your fanwork(s) to the AO3 COLLECTION or on tumblr with the tag “hawks summer fest 2018″ (if elsewhere please let us know so we can link to it!)
