i regularly see people in the tags confused by which of my dogs are which and people in my real life struggle with this as well, so here's how i remember:

Sparta - built for efficiency, no extra frills, small but gritty and armed to the teeth

Troja - hollow horse.

i don't know what it is exactly that makes me able to shitpost for hours but unable to write captions for photos so here's an overview of what happens in my head each and every time i try:

How do you measure their rations with this system? Does it dispense a specific portion size? Do you go by weight? Some mysterious 3rd thing? Love the setup.

not pictured: digital kitchen scale right in front. calibrate scale to -bowl, twisty twisty, put back on scale, decide meh close enough (if too much poured - adjust wet/raw portion or by heaping into next dogs bowl - one could also just pour it back but they're pushed under the top cabinets and i am nothing if not immensely lazy)

#it doesnt necessarily make things EASIER #just more enjoyable #twisty twisty crinkle crinkle #but if or when this breaks i might be considering looking at a pricier option because these are *not* made to hold the weight of dog food #they stand on hollow little click-in tubes in the back. plastic and off balance. someday they'll just crack #so i can never fill them in any meaningful way (but i did take the cheapest i could find so. maybe)#but it makes me go :)#so its worth it #depending on the size of the kibble the dispensing is *mostly* consistent #sparty has bigger/airier chunks and troj has the little dense ones. so both take about two twisties + their raw #2bf that scale gets used more than any other appliance in my home so it has a permanent position in the leftmost corner of the countertop

#lowkey also want some sort of sticker situation for their respective vario doors #since troj tells me they are NOT interchangable #she IS the Right Side Dog regardless of what I say or do #edit: i have family in the printing business so would technically just need the digital files #at some point i might?? commission someone?? maybe if april sales go well 🤞

whats the most ridiculous cue word you have heard for a pretty standard behavior? i'll go first, someone telling the dog to heel by saying "place" as the cue

#iirc someone i semi-knows spin cues for opposite directions was 'twist' and 'shout'#my gran's cue for the same was 'dance' which i always thought was super cute. v fitting when she had those elegant poodles #much funnier with the scotties that would just kinda. hobble around on an undetermined number of legs

#there are actual reasonable things being rewarded here such as relaxation or being in your orbit without it being inherently transactional #and being attentive to your presence without every interaction being high powered #but ignore that now <3

i'm noticing some very slight unevenness at the edges of sparta's pupils. it's pretty consisntent in both eyes and not so pronounced that it seems to cause problems - i'll bring it up on our vet exam soon but most likely iris atrophy, right? which i realize is an expected condition for a dog of her age and stature and probably not much to do about, but yknow. not ready.

#she started getting nuclear sclerosis at like 7 so her eyes have been some of the first things to change #i wonder a little if her hearing has changed too #(though not so much she can't hear me whisper to troj or a pocket zipper in another room)#i know that sight and hearing tends to go with age. i know this.#and i see it in the dogs that came up alongside her - ace is two weeks younger and by last year quote 'deaf as a log'#but surely my dog should not experience these things?? surely MY dog will not grow old??#anyway. we're overdue for vax+check and if vet thinks it looks worrying we'll try to schedule an optho alongside trojs cardio
