Today In Solidarity (6/12/18): As we remember the two year anniversary of the Pulse massacre, it is important that we reflect on narrative and who gets to write history. In the weeks following the tragedy, police were lauded as heroes for their response. In reality, they dragged their feet in responding to the shooting, sprayed bullets indiscriminately into the club, and have used the opportunity to muscle their way deeper into queer spaces, potentially threatening the safety of them. Survivors have recently filed a lawsuit around parts of this reality.

Intermittently, we must remember that the victims of this massacre were predominantly Latinx, some even with hazy immigration statuses. The reality is that to this day member of the Latinx LGBTQ community (in Orlando and across the country) experience xenophobia, racism, and classism at the hands of police/authorities. We must not allow the Pulse tragedy to be white-washed. We must demand accountability for the lives lost not just at the hands of terrorists, but due to the cavalier and reckless way police acted in response. #nojusticenopeace #noprideforpolice

Happy Aromantic Spectrum Awareness Week (Feb 16 2020 - Feb 22nd 2020) !

Here are a few things to keep in mind!

  • Aromantic is both an orientation and an umbrella term for those who fall on the Aromantic Spectrum
  • There are multiple arospec identities and all of them are important and worth celebrating
  • Being Aromantic or Arospec does not mean you’re broken and does not mean something is wrong with you.
  • It can be hard for some people to accept their Aro identity but that doesn’t mean they aren’t deserving of positivity
  • Aromanticism and Asexuality are two different things
  • Aromantic means someone experiences little to no romantic attraction
  • Aromantic people are allowed to want and be in romantic relationships
  • Aromantic people are allowed to not want any type of relationship
  • Platonic relationships are no less important than romantic ones
  • Lesser known arospec identities are no less deserving of recognition and celebration
  • Aromantic POC exist
  • Mentally ill Aromantic people exist
  • Young Aromantic people exist
  • Adult Aromantic people exist
  • Religious Aromantic people exist
  • You can identify as Aromantic regardless of race, gender identity, age, religion, etc.
  • It’s okay if you don’t know where you fall on the Aromantic Spectrum
  • It’s okay if it takes time to realize that you are Aromantic or Arospec
  • Being Aromantic does not make you a bad person
  • Aromantic people who also identify as another orientation exist
  • Aromantic people are allowed to love their identity
  • Not every Aro experience is the same
  • Don’t assume that every Aromantic person is the same
  • You’re allowed to use Aromantic as an umbrella term
  • Whether you want to use the Split Attraction Model is your choice, but don’t look down on those who choose differently. Someone who only identifies as Aromantic is just as valid and important as someone who identifies as Aromantic and another orientation.
  • Regardless of where you fall on the Aro Spectrum, you have a right to celebrate this week (and in general!)
  • Aromantics and Arospecs are allowed to choose to not celebrate if they don’t want to
  • You’re allowed to love your Aro identity
  • You’re allowed to struggle with your Aro identity
  • You’re allowed to have good days and bad days
  • You’re allowed to talk about your experiences
  • Aromantic people and Arospec people are part of the LGBT+ community
  • Aromantic people deserve love in whatever form they want that love

Feel free to add on!

Seeking: other trans with disabilities

How do you navigate your gender identity when framed by your disability?

I couldn’t phrase it better than that, but like….okay, my case. I identify as nonbinary transgender. I’m femme. I’ve always been pretty femme, and it was never a concern until recently. My disability circumstances don’t seem to allow a change in my presentation.

I want to cut my hair to almost androgyny, but my body is kind of fat and freakish, and I don’t know how short would be too short.

I can’t wear pants. I just can’t. They’re too uncomfortable, and I don’t like them hugging my weird-looking legs.

I would love nothing more than to try a suit sometime, but there’s 0% chance of something fitting me.

I want to experiment with hormones and binding. I don’t think I can safely bind (severe scoliosis, fatness, you know the deal) and hormones…I dunno. I swore to myself when I was a kid that I would never allow unnecessary medical interference.

So, like…how the hell do you do trans when you’re severely disabled?

I feel this! (On a slightly lesser level). Not being able to do things that able-bodied trans people can do really is a kick to the teeth. The only thing that helps me is doing small things that alleviate minor dysphoria that won’t impact on your health. (Obviously varies heaps for each disabled person)

One of the things for me is using deodorant and other fragrance/hygiene products that alleviate some dysphoria.

Another way is physically wearing things like pride badges etc that show you’re trans that won’t impact on health like hormones or other body modifications would.

Accessories like bags, hats, shoes (where applicable) that alleviate dysphoria can also help without necessarily impacting health.

Medical devices can also be decorated in ways that suit you and your gender. Depending on what devices you use they can be decorated in different ways. Eg, I specifically chose a gender neutral cane and decorated it very androgynously.

Whenever possible, when talking to new medical professionals ensure that they know your preferred name and pronouns (if you feel safe doing so). I know how much it sucks having doctors, nurses, surgeons, etc address you by the wrong name.

When possible (if possible) see if there are any trans/LGBT+ groups that meet up in your area. They can really help you feel at home with those who understand the trans experience. Again it sucks that most won’t understand the disabled trans experience but it’s still better than trying to handle everything on your own.

Feel free to PM me if you ever need. Gives me all the feels and I might be able to help you out

Trans Man with really bad disabilities.

but… they’re not. Trans is short for “transitioning” which is to say you go from one gender to the other. Non-binary people are not transitioning to another gender. They’re just not moving from one to another.

trans is not and has never been short for transitioning you dumb hoe

trans is short for transgender dumbass

also for those who don’t get it, the creator of the trans flag herself (monica helms, to be exact) has stated verbally, herself, that the white stripe in the flag was for nonbinary individuals + that nonbinary ppl are absolutely trans

if you exclude nonbinary folks and tell us we’re not trans go fuck yourselves

I don’t often get political… but something has happened

Trump. He and his administration are trying to change the law so that whatever gender you were “born as” is your unchangeable sex/gender.

[1.4 MILLION AMERICANS]

This is from a new New York Times article, regarding the technicalities of what has been said. They go even further to discuss what they accurately call “biggest battlegrounds” for transgender students: the bathrooms and locker rooms.

We can’t be quiet about this. They are trying to erase who we are. To make it so that we just DON’T EXIST. As a transgender male who lives in America, this scares the shit out of me.

As I said, I don’t normally get political on my blog, but you all need to know about this.

don’t let this happen

if somebody asked you “do you want a girl or a boy” when you were pregnant and you responded “it doesn’t matter as long as they’re healthy”, then why does it matter after they’re born? or when the child realizes they’re trans/nb/gender non conforming etc?
