Week 1 (June 13th to June 19th)

Meet Cute

Characters meet through an amusing and/or charming encounter.

What’s this and how do I join?

This is a challenge to create tropey Hackle (Ada Cackle/Hecate Hardbroom) fanworks! Basically, create a Hackle fanwork that uses this trope (any type of fanwork, any style, any setting, any length, any spin on the trope, any anything!), post it to Tumblr when it’s done, and tag it #hackle summer trope challenge. You are also welcome to add fanworks to the AO3 collection. That’s pretty much it! For a bit more detail, see HERE.

Hackle Summer Trope Challenge-Year Four

What’s this?

A challenge (created by @cosmic-llin) to inspire and generate Hackle (Ada Cackle/Hecate Hardbroom) fanworks for popular fandom tropes.

When’s it happening?

June 13th - August 21st, 2021.

Why’s it happening?

β€œI’ve been in a lot of small femslash fandoms, and one thing I’ve noticed often is that people are often shy about writing the same tropes and ideas that other writers have already used, in case they tread on their toes. Whereas in big, popular fandoms, twenty people can write variations on the same idea and they’ll all be welcomed by readers.

I don’t think we should be afraid of treading similar ground in our fics and other fanworks - we all have different perspectives to bring to the same basic concepts. So I wanted to do something to celebrate that and create more fanworks for popular fandom tropes.”~ @cosmic-llinβ€‹β€˜s explanation that I echo 1,000x over.

To find out how to get involved:

β€œHecate was the moon by day; unnoticed until there she is and, mesmerised by her quiet majesty, you cannot look at anything else. Conspicuous by her surroundings, she did not mean to stand out. It wasn’t that she did not fit neatly into her environment, but that the environment did not fit neatly around her. Her demeanour which so many took for arrogance, as Mildred now realised, was a woman incapable of blending in and could not understand why she ever should betray her nature. And the girl thought what a rare and beautiful quality that was”.

Chapter 27 from β€˜The Heiress’

One more thing. When I was was painting this I couldn’t help thinking…..I love Helena Bonham-Carter and there’s no doubt she was fabulous as Princess Margaret in The Crown, but………?Β

β€œGranny Weatherwax was often angry. She considered it one of her strong points. Genuine anger was one of the world’s great creative forces. But you had to learn how to control it. That didn’t mean you let it trickle away. It meant you dammed it, carefully, let it develop a working head, let it drown whole valleys of the mind and then, just when the whole structure was about to collapse, opened a tiny pipeline at the base and let the iron-hard steam of wrath power the turbines of revenge.”
