Darcy had done it again. With six dozen cookies, four dozen muffins, and probably ten pounds of fudge, she was stuck with a dilemma. Try and eat it all herself? Nah, that’d be insane, she’d die for sure. So the other option was to make baskets and send them off to others of random choice until she ran out of goodie baskets.
So she did just that. She separated and gathered the treats into baggies that then went into baskets she had bought last time she was out in the city at a hobby store. Once that chore was complete, she packed them all up in a duffel bag and began her walk through the town dropping off basket after basket.
When she made it to her final doorstep, no more baskets in her bag, she set it down neatly, fluffing the ribbon before standing up and nodding at her cute little display. She knocked on the door to signal there was a package delivered, and then turned around to walk away. Happy with her deed of the day.
Samuel had just gotten in from his long work day, so he was already at the door, jacket still on, when he heard the knock. It wasn’t an odd thing for neighbours to call on him throughout the day -- he figured someone was just looking for a friendly face, although he wasn’t quite sure why he’d be their first choice, considering there were friendlier faces just a few yards away.
He was, however, shocked to see one of those friendly faces, turning as though she were walking away, when he opened the door. “Wait!” He took notice of the basket of goods sitting at his feet, and held up a hand, signalling for Darcy to stop retreating. He’d been delivered baskets like these before, but never got a chance to thank the individual responsible. Though a small thing, he always appreciated the little gifts on his doorstep -- anything that took him out of the dull day-to-day of the valley made his life that much easier to endure.
“If you don’t have more of these to deliver, let me thank you.” He wasn’t one to reach out, but he figured she’d made enough kind gestures that he owed her some in return. “Do you like tea? I just made some, if you want to come in.”
