happy pride month from your neighborhood gray!! I forget that asexuality has been severely misrepresented and that a lot of people don’t actually know what it is as a result so here is an overview of what asexuality is, what it’s not, and how acephobic is represented. there is so much more to asexuality than just this. I didn’t even mention the medicalization of asexuality!

I highly rec scretspiderlady on Twitter because she writes a lot about the ace experience and has many comprehensive threads. I also rec Yasmin Benoit, a Black aroace lingerie model who is fighting misinformation about asexuality and shedding light on racism within the asexual community. if you’re interested in more resources feel free to dm me!

EDIT: I updated the slide that refers to asexuality as “aspec” to “acespec.” The term aspec refers to the a community as a whole – both asexuals and aromantics – while acespec refers to the asexual spectrum and arospec referes to the aromantic spectrum. You can see this mirrored in the terms acephobia (experienced by aces), arophobia (experienced by aros), and aphobia (experienced by both aces and aros). Thank you to those of you who tagged this post with their correction!

EDIT 2: now with a text-only option!

People are sleeping on this queer representation + show in general

As a queer Asian American I feel an obligation to get more people to know about Warrior (2019) which is streaming on MAX (HBO), but had originally aired on Cinemax.

This show is based on an original concept and writings of Bruce Lee and is executive-produced by his daughter, Shannon Lee. It is set in 1870 San Francisco and bases a lot of the story and characters on historical figures during/around the Tong Wars. It's a riveting, action packed series that's sure to please anyone who enjoys old school martial arts films, westerns, dramas, and more.

But that's not it. The show has an interracial queer relationship that too many people don't know about. This will now go into spoiler territory. So if this post has already convinced you to go watch it just from the first image, then don't read on.

You first get to see Ah Toy and Nellie Davenport interact at the beginning of season 2. Ah Toy, from season 1 is already canonically bisexual. From the get go it is evident that they are enemies as Ah Toy is an influential madame in Chinatown who runs a brothel. While on the other hand Nellie is a rich widow who has aided the police force in raids throughout Chinatown to shut down crib brothels. In time you'll learn that they're both badass motherfuckers, but I don't want to spoil that for you!

As the season progresses, they find that they aren't as different as they originally thought. Falling straight into the enemies to lovers story path. So here's a still from season 3 of these wonderful bi women to encourage you all to check out Warrior.

Still not convinced? Look at them!

Not enough? How about now?

No? How about now?

Well then here's my last try...

I have now done my duty to try and get more people to watch this show and support these women. It is out of my hands now.

PS: If you do watch it, come spam my inbox cause I wanna talk about it! Also if you like fanfic, then subscribe to my AO3 cause I'm already working on some fics for them :D

PSS: There's also straight interracial relationships and gay representation too.

I witnessed a (non-Asian) 12 year old boy go up to an Asian 12 year old boy holding a toy and sneer and point at the toy and say, “is that what you use to eat dog?” Right in front of me, an Asian American adult, with no fear at all

So don’t tell me that it’s 2023 and racism doesn’t exist and Asian Americans are a “model minority” that never face racism

When I was in first grade my classmates would pull their eyes at me and say “Ching Chang Chong” and sing “my mom is Japanese my dad is Chinese so now I look like this” and pull their eyes in different weird directions and laugh at my anger

Now I’m an adult and I witnessed kids continue the cycle of racism

Yes a lot of things are getting better in our country but this is just a reminder that the fight is not over stay angry out there #stopasianhate and for gods sake if you have kids raise them better

White Americans will literally see an Asian American person and think they arrived fresh off the boat to America YESTERDAY

like b*tch we’ve been in this country for generations

We built your railroads, worked on your plantations, lived in your internment camps, we weren’t allowed to vote or own property for years and had to create chinatowns due to racial segregation and zoning laws and were treated like cattle and also LYNCHED (yes look it up) and you erased OUR AMERICAN HISTORY

Anyways - I started watching Warrior on HBO Max and it’s about the Chinese Americans in California after the Civil War and the racism they faced is astounding

So sick and tired of white people seeing me or my brother and asking us “where are you from?” Or “what are you?” Or shouting “nihao!” In our faces as if we just arrived in this country yesterday lmfao when you know for a fact some Asian Americans have been in this country for generations then they turn around and call us “model minority” smh

Years on the internet and somehow i still click on comments sections with the insanely optimistic idea that I'll learn something new instead of being subjected to the dumbest motherfuckers online typing like their sole purpose in life is to make me want to end mine

"Wow, what an interesting post! I want to see what sort of fascinating discourse is being generated by the idea posited by the original poster" <- Me, operating under levels of delusion yet unexplained by modern science

Why is this so true? SMH 🤦🏻‍♀️ I saw a post about putting historical social activist and woman of color Patsy T Mink on the US quarter which is amazing for woman and people of color and the comments were poop emojis and a white woman saying Asians were not people of color and other idiotic sexist and racist bs 🤦🏻‍♀️ I was so optimistic for the comments
