    shiro’s puzzled look wasn’t    exactly honest : he knew exactly what pidge meant behind her words , although it still felt like a hit as her expression reached the man .    a confident smile was risked ,    ❛    we all miss earth , pidge .    right now it needs our help .    your father and brother do too , they all count on you .    i believe in us , don’t you ?    ❜

there would be this awkward silence whenever pidge would be alone with the black paladin. mostly, they would talk about simple things but sometimes if the situation was tense, they would just be silent with each other, not minding their business. pidge was not a person who’d initiate into conversations easily— and even though it was shiro ( someone who knew their brother and was friends with them ), they wouldn’t sometimes initiate at all. 

just as right now, they would screw on a device just to put it apart and then together; only to check their tech and maybe grab one or two parts of it for later. it was something they would do if they were bored or if they’d need a distraction. they were mostly minding their own business and forget about their surroundings— until they’d get shiro’s voice in their ears.

 ‘ not really ’, they answered quickly, not looking at shiro at all, keeping their mind on the device.

    he was clearly bothering    pidge , he could notice as much .    they had better things to do than answer shiro’s stupid question -- he spoke up just to avoid the elephant in the room .    was it only nagging at his mind?    perhaps that’s for the better , although it confirmed that it isn’t a topic to be handled easily .

    ❛    i personally think you’re    the most direct and reasonable person in our team , hunk .    please don’t think too much into it but ...    do you think i’m doing a good job being voltron’s leader ?    ❜    if shiro wanted to be frank to himself , he felt that hunk was the closest to his level of judgment .    far more perceptive than any of the team members , hunk had an earnest yet warm aura surrounding him that welcomed anyone seeking to get close to it .    the black paladin’s self-respect lacked the vision that was necessarry for being confident in his position -- shiro realized , but there was something else that nagged the back of his mind , something else that he didn’t have .    in desperation , he searched for help .
