You know what I love about Marc Spector and Steven Grant’s character arcs in the finale? Throughout the entire show, Marc was built up as the cool badass while Steven was built up as the empathetic peacemaker. And what were Marc and Steven’s defining moments in the finale?

1) Steven being a cool badass as Mr. Knight. Not only did he go full Daredevil on the Cult of Ammit, he even had a moment where he fixed his suit while fighting Harrow. 

2) Marc being an empathetic peacemaker. First, he gave up an eternity of peace in order to save Steven. Then, when he was given the chance to kill Harrow, he chose peace and spared the man. 

Marc and Steven were acting like the other, as a sign of full acceptance.

The first time we see Gus, he has one fin which signifies a disability of some sort. Steven believes that it's probably his sleeping disorder that has made his work life and personal life chaotic and disturbed. He's unsure of who he is.

When Marc replaced the fish, he gets a normal, two finned fish from the store which may represent Marc's acceptance of his disorder, and of Steven's existence in his life. He knows it well enough what Khonshu's servitude entails. Even though he's more worn out than Steven, he's accepted that major part of his life.

But in the last episode we see two healthy fish. Both Steven and Marc have accepted each other, worked in a complete synchronicity and developed a kind of fondness and respect for each other. It's also because it's Marc who wakes up in Steven's bed, which leads me to believe that Steven is alright with Marc fronting to fulfill even the most mundane tasks of the day.

P.S: every fish needs a company
