LAST LINE MEME

It’s just like @yanak324 to drag me out of my hiding place and subtly force me to tell if I have written anything. And by doing that force me to start writing again (finally) ❤️

Because yes, I'm still here even though I haven't really been writing much (but I have written something).

The last line written for Linger on:

They haven't discussed his marriage or the end of it, not a single word since she came back - and hardly any words ever, since his announcement of the divorce had been the same way the announcement of his wedding had been all those years ago: sudden, short and offering no real explanation of anything.

Not giving any promises of getting the chapter posted - there's really only editing to do but... We'll see. It will get done at some point, that I promise.

“You really expected me to just let you run off into the woods like this?”

Arya hates just how plainly true his words are.

An hour ago she wouldn’t have questioned his decision to follow her; knows that he would be the first person chasing after her, for better or worse.

But it’s not an hour ago, and well –

“I expected a lot of things,” falls out of her way too easily for how weighted it is. The set of Gendry’s jaw along with the resolute way he doesn’t seem to want to budge does nothing but fuel her anxiety.

“Don’t go there, Arya.”

“Where, Gendry? To the place where Sansa and Jon have been lying to me for months? Where you’ve been lying to me for months?”

“It wasn’t like that. “

This time she does glance up at him, and though the guilt is very evident in his darkened blue gaze, it can’t quite break through the barrier that now exists between them.

“Wasn’t it though?”

She feels her voice raise but doesn’t do anything to stop it.

Part two: You’re still my best friend

"Hey stranger," a familiar voice says behind her back and when Arya turns around it's him. A few more lines on his face, maybe just the tiniest bit more weight on him. He's got a short beard and his hair is shorter than it was the last time she saw him. The eyes are the same though and the voice too. And when his lips curl up into a kind smile it's the exact same one he always gave her.

Part one: Loving and leaving

Arya has never really understood the saying of walking on clouds but that is the expression that best describes what she is feeling right now. The night air feels pleasantly warm and the dark city feels kind and if anyone around her is not feeling happy then she doesn't really notice it. All she can take note of is Gendry walking beside her and his thumb caressing her hand every once in a while and the warm and exhilarating thought that they are walking home together, to share the night together, to be together.

It's every single element in the world arranging themselves into place.

Arya has just gotten her doctor's licence when two things happen: she and her long-time best friend realise they are very much in love with each other and she gets the news she can finally fulfill one of her biggest dreams, working as a doctor in crisis situations overseas.

There’s no question which sister Bran is referring to, and Gendry doesn’t bother clarifying.
“It might take some time for her to adjust to this, but she’s not going to let this overshadow everything else.”
“You sure about that?”
Bran opens his mouth to respond, but never gets a chance to.

Arya didn’t question their intimacy during the war. Touches and silent kisses exchanged between friends in the dark were unremarkable in comparison to the all-encompassing death and their own fatigue. It was only after victory against an unfathomable enemy that she was made to confront who she wanted to be in peace time, and what Gendry meant to her.

It’s not a secret to Gendry - or anyone else really - that there’s very little his wife does that doesn’t turn him on. She could be hunched over the counter half-asleep, scooping grounds into coffee maker, or engaged in a spirited discussion regarding the state of foreign relations like she was earlier this evening, and the sight of her will inevitably make him hard. But this - This is on a whole other level. Against their steel gray sheets, her alabaster skin practically glows. There’s very little light in the room but that doesn’t really matter. It’s impossible to look anywhere other than the delicate line of her back as she braces herself on her hands and knees in front of him, patiently waiting for him to make the move. “Gendry-“ Okay so maybe not so patiently.

Happy Wednesday!

Just to give myself a push to finally edit the first chapter of this story I have been working on for way too long (or rather, had it sit in my files, mostly untouched), here's a little snippet of Linger on, the fic I want to start posting soon. This is one of the first bits I wrote for this thing, one that made me feel like I just needed to make it into an actual story. (And no, it won't all be this sad.)

The light moves slowly across the wall, making the shadows change shape. The colour of the light changes from pale yellows to pinkish and then orange. 
His hand lingers on the bare skin of her back. It feels like they have been lying there for ages, just breathing, both lost in their own thoughts but still together. 
She shifts her head to lay it closer to the middle of his chest. She can hear his heartbeat, steady and strong. Just like he is. 
"Just promise me you'll take care of yourself, will you?" he asks, breaking the calm of the moment and causing a lump to immediately form in her throat. 
She nods, kissing his skin and closing her eyes, trying to fight back the tears and failing.

As it happens, I was just writing, so this is as fresh as it gets. It’s from a post season 8 story I started way back in February and only got back to a couple of days ago. Probably not the story I will be posting next or anytime soon for that matter but who knows anymore...

So, the last line written:

He lets his eyes move around the courtyard, and his breath catches in his throat as he sees what he immediately knows he was searching for.

A bit of The Last Time...🥰🥰🥰

My muse woke up a little bit and I could not be more grateful. Chapter 19 of The Last Time is on its way…and my goal is to post in the next two weeks. Surprise…it’s another Gendry POV, because my bull without horns simply won’t leave my mind. @jepshe​ asked for a tense convo and she’s got one. Enjoy xoxo.

It irks Gendry suddenly that Bran can see so easily through him, and he doesn’t stop the question from slipping out.

“You sure about that?”

Bran opens his mouth to respond, but never gets a chance to.

Arya appears so suddenly in front of them, Gendry barely has a chance to steel himself for the sight of her rosy cheeks, and bright smile, and the flurry of energy that seems to follow her lately.

It’s something he thinks he’ll never get used to, much like the calming effect she has on his nerves, chasing away the tension by just leaning into him.
