You were supposed to go out on a date with Yeonjun today but your professor had just assigned you some last minute homework that was due next week. You weren’t one to procrastinate or drag it to some other day, knowing well that you might forget about it. 

Yeonjun actually had a whole day planned for the both of you, only for them to be thrown out the window when he received your text, “Hey baby, I’m sorry I can’t make it today :( Professor gave us homework. I’ll be in the library the whole day trying to complete it. But I’ve eaten lunch already, don’t worry about me! Take care, love you! Muah”

He rolled his eyes at your text, “Stupid Professor.” He muttered underneath his breath. Despite the cancelled plan, he wanted to stay by your side on this special day, Valentine’s Day. Yeonjun was one to fully believe in the joy of this day, he loved how the air would be full of love. Therefore, he stopped by a florist and bought a bouquet of different coloured tulips. “Ah, young man, who are these for?” the cashier questioned him. He replied proudly, “For the one who captured my heart. I’m lucky to have her, ma'am.” She gave him a sweet smile, “Young love… A whole experience, isn’t it? Hold on to it well and strong darling. While some relationships don’t last, many are worth fighting for. Not all young love is mere puppy love. Last forever, you two.”

You heard knocking at the door despite not expecting anyone. As you opened the door, you were surprised to see your boyfriend was standing in front of you. “Oh, Taehyun. What are you doing here?”

“Just because.” he shrugged. Without questioning further, you moved aside to let him in. This was actually unlike him to turn up unannounced but you thought it was best to not interrogate him right now.

Taehyun went in and sat himself on the sofa. You noticed how he didn’t even hug or kiss you before that, which was actually something he never missed every time he came to visit. Taehyun positioned himself upright, as if he was in a formal interview, eyes fixated on the tv screen in front of him that was playing Music Bank live.

You sighed to yourself. You and Taehyun just had a lover’s quarrel a few weeks back, before the start of his busy schedule. You felt that he wasn’t giving you enough attention while he felt that you weren’t thoughtful of his efforts.

Fine, you’ll admit that you got jealous at how your friends were receiving those “good morning” and “good night” texts from their partners and you even sent them to him whereas some days, Taehyun would not even open your messages at all. The way both of you promised to video call every Friday night but that certainly did not happen anymore, with Taehyun giving you a heads up through text saying, “y/n, I’m unable to call again tonight. Our practice got extended and i’m sure i’ll be too tired to stay up any longer. Next time, okay…”

Taehyun actually wanted to see you again and though he tried, he couldn’t find the perfect timing. Adding to that, he didn’t want to reply to you when he’s all drained out because he didn’t want you to get the wrong idea that he isn’t interested. He wanted to make sure that he is his cheery self before calling you but sometimes practice just makes him more jaded than expected. Taehyun felt really bad every time he had to text you to tell you that he isn’t up for a video call. Slowly, he stopped getting any check ups from you. He no longer got the notification that reads, “Hey baby! Up for the call tonight?”

Taehyun figured you were probably busy with your things too so he let the situation be. You, on the other hand, got extremely frustrated that the communication between the both of you seemed to disappear. What happened to your closely knitted relationship? Was it all going to drown out like this?

This was how you guys ended up here. To say the least, you didn’t know how to face him. You had no idea what to say. The atmosphere felt very suffocating until Taehyun turned to you, “So, are you just going to stand by the door all day?”

“Ah, right… Sorry, ummmm so do you want a drink? I can make you iced chocolate.” You headed to the kitchen, mentally hitting yourself as you prepare the drinks.

Taehyun nodded and faced the tv again. The both of you secretly hated this situation but both were also too stubborn to speak up. Taehyun came with the intention of checking in on you yet you were headstrong on having him apologise first after leaving you in the dust for so long.

You went to the living room with two cups of iced chocolates, slowly sipping on yours. Taehyun thanks you for it, eyes not leaving your figure. You decided to play dumb and glued your eyes to the tv, hoping he would say something and fortunately, he did. “How have you been?”

“Could be better, I suppose.” You shrugged.

You did sound mean but at this point, you didn’t want to care about that considering that there was complete truth in that. Taehyun frowned at your reply. He didn’t know if he should speak any further, afraid that you might say something harsh to him that he couldn’t handle but he chose to take that risk. He wanted to make things right again.

“Why are you so quiet? What is going on between us? Please y/n, don’t tell me we’re…don’t tell me we’re breaking up.” Taehyun started, his voice getting softer by the end of the sentence. Your head shot towards him. What was he saying? Is he seriously bringing this up when he started all these?

“Seriously Taehyun? Why not reflect on your actions first? You can’t be telling me you don’t possibly know what you’ve done wrong.” You raised your voice at him. “You know what, if you aren’t going to put in any effort, then neither am i. A relationship needs us to meet in the middle, Taehyun. I think you should have known that by now.”

You were shocked that you managed to pour your thoughts out clearly. However, Taehyun definitely wasn’t taking this well. Tears were already pooling in his eyes. He remained silent. He didn’t know how to continue because he just realised that maybe he should have just called you every Friday night, he could have replied to your texts every break session and he could have invited you over to the practice room whenever you were free but no, he just had to be able to reason everything out logically. His reasons being not wanting to give you half of him when you were giving him all of you. Yet, he didn’t bother taking the extra mile to at least try.

You were getting annoyed at his lack of response, “Taehyun, why are you here if you’re not gonna say anything? Yell, scream, cry, please, just say something, anything. I don’t want us to end either.”

He shook his head, eyes still on you. Tears started to fall out of his eyes as he croaked out, “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry y/n.”

Your heart broke at the sight of him. Yes, you’ve seen him cry before but not because of you. You didn’t know what to feel right now - part of you was still angry while the other part of you wanted to bring him into your embrace.

Of course you gave in, you had to. He is still your baby anyways, it wasn’t as if you wanted to break up with him. You hugged him tighter as he started to break down further. You rubbed his back, “Baby, i’m sorry for raising my voice. I just hoped that you would at least message me every now and then or something. I’m not expecting fancy dates but it’ll be nice if I get to see you at least once a week.”

You pulled back to look at him, “Hey, we’ve made it this far and I love you too much to let you go that easily.”

Taehyun pulled you back into the hug, “I’m sorry too. I promise to do better. I don’t want to lose you, y/n. I love you so so freaking much.”

You missed his warmth but he’s back, your baby is finally here again. As if he was reading your mind, he asked “Can i stay a few nights?”

You nodded, “Of course, my baby. Great to have you back.”
