joshua wakes up to pounding on his door and for a second he isn’t sure if it’s just a dream or not. the pounding stops, and for a minute he’s ready to turn over and snuggle deeper into is blanket. but it starts again, this find less frantic and almost in desperate, pleading intervals.

he somehow remembers to throw a tshirt and check the peephole before opening the door. he blinks rapidly and rubs his eyes when he realizes it isn’t some crazy lunatic, it’s you.

you opens the door, easily letting you in as you grab his arm. your hand is cold he realizes first. your hand is also shaking he realizes second.

“i’m so so sorry shua.”

your words fade, but he can faintly make out you explaining your night out clubbing, how you let your friends leave you after promising to call an uber, and you panicking when you realized too late that your phone was dead.

“you were the only person i could think of.”

he can’t even take in your skin tight dress or glittering choker that accentuates your collerbone. he just stares at you. curly hair that frames your face and lips that faded from your lipstick into a pretty pink. and then he processes your words. you thought of him first.

he’s able to run through numerous scenarios in his head in a nanosecond. he knows for a fact seokmin and jihoon live less than a block away, one in each direction. but for some reason, in your buzzed haze, you thought of him. he tries not to selfishly relish in that.

coming to his senses he smiles at you, “yeah come on, let me get you a glass of water. you hungry?”

compared to his thoughts, joshua is smooth. and maybe if the alcohol wasn’t clouding your brain, you would’ve been able to tell that he took exceptionally long to answer you.

you nod, letting him lead you to the counter with a light touch on your wrist. you almost move to hold his hand instead, but you don’t. maybe you should’ve.

he sits you down, and before you can even say another word, he’s bending down to slip off your heels. for a second you marvel at his thoughtfulness; he never misses a beat. he takes your phone from your hands and plugs it into the charger he has in the kitchen.

he’s quieter than usual you notice. obviously he’s tired. it had to be past three in the morning. you part your lips to apologize again but he’s already holding a glass of water to your lips.

watching you grab the glass and drink the water, he sighs, running a hand through his hand. “you worry me so much. it’s so dangerous for you to walk to my place like this.”

you bit your lips, and you can’t bring yourself to meet his eyes. “i know. i’m really sorry for waking you up.”

you finally lift your head and find him looking at you with an unreadable expression. his eyebrows are furrowed and he’s close to you. his eyes feel like they’re staring straight into your heart.

“i know you have work tomorrow. i’ll have enough battery to call an uber in a second.” you go to reach for your phone but he stops you, this time holding your hand.

“i do have work tomorrow but..” he takes a deep breath and holds your hand tighter. “you don’t have to leave. i don’t want you to leave. stay over.”

“but i-“

“i’m serious y/n.” his gaze hardens and you know there’s no point in arguing with him. “now, food? or sleep?”

you choose sleep and let him lead you to his bedroom and slip a large tshirt over your head. he isn’t even bothered when you start to slip out of your dress from under the shirt and smile when he hands you a pair of sweatpants.

“let me know if you need anything okay?” he moves to step out of the room but you block him.

“hey you can’t sleep on the couch, you have work tomorrow.” you want to say it’s the alcohol that allows you to say this so easily. but it’s not. you’ve sobered up enough. so you don’t know where the courage is coming from, but you only know that it felt right. “your bed is big enough for both of us.”

he choose not to say anything and nod. he slipped under the covers and tried his best to ignore the thumping of his heart when you whispered a “goodnight” and turn your back to him.

with his back to yours, he wonders if he’ll wake up with your hair fanning his cheek and his arm hugging your body. he closes his eyes, hoping for such.

seungcheol leans his head back against the window as you run your fingers back through you hair a few times to keep it from falling in your face. the sun is setting behind you gives you a golden glow and he can’t imagine wanting to be anywhere else.

when turning back to look at seohee and seojun, his daughter and son, he’s almost surprised to see them fast asleep compared to their rowdy, argumentative nature.

“guess the secret is the beach huh? they didn’t fight at all today, and they got worn out” he speaks softly to be sure the kids won’t wake and begins to hum along to the mellow beat of the song playing.

you hum along with him, taking a quick look in the rearview mirror to see the sleeping faces of your kids and smile. you dont take your eyes off the road but you smirk, “okay then. next time you’re going to be the one chasing the kids out of the deep end.”

you can practically hear his pout and can already imagine his lips jutting out when he whines, “honey! it’s a team effort, what are you talking about!”

“sush cheol, they wore me out.”

even though you say it with a light laugh, he knows you arent kidding as your hands fall to hold the bottom of the steering wheel and you roll your neck a few times while trying to keep your eyes on the road.

“pull over. let me drive for a while.”

you take quick glance at him before shaking your head. “i’ll be fine. the deal was you’d drive there and i’d drive back.”

“it’s fine i promise.” he knows you’re stubborn as always, and it would take a some convincing to get you to let yourself be selfish. “i’m hardly tired, you should take a nap.”

keeping one hand on the wheel, you reach over and let him entangle your fingers with his. you melt into his hold and a smile grows on your lips when he lifts your hand to his lips and presses a soft kiss.

“i love you.” you say, pulling the car over and unbuckling your seatbelt. he already has the door open to switch seats but when he turns back, you take in the view with his sunkissed skin and wavy hair.

he grins, “love you always.”

you walk to jihoon’s studio with a little beat in your step, waving as you pass jeonghan and soonyoung on the way.

they say a quick hello and let you go your own way towards jihoon’s studio. once you see the familiar neon lights you subconsciously pick up your pace.

“hoonie?” you call softly, slowly walking in. he has headphones in, and his eyes are trained on the screen, so you aren’t shocked when he doesn’t notice you.

your lips twitch upwards as they take in his figure. you never knew you could miss that loose grey t-shirt and black baseball cap so much. you place dinner on the table behind him and start to approach him, your presence still unknown.

“yah.” you smirk, leaning again his desk, holding in your snicker when he jumps with a hand over his chest and his chair slightly rolls back at his movement.

“y/n.” he blinks, his mind churning and quickly gets over the surprise to stand up and give you a hug. “you’re such a liar babe.”

you smile into the kiss he presses against your lips, holding your waist close to him. when you part he doesn’t move his hands from you and instead tucks his head into your shoulder mumbling, “i missed you.”

you pull away from him and reach up to pull the baseball cap off his head, giggling slightly when you see his black roots growing in.

“is it that funny?” he smiles amused at your habit of checking his hair.

“nothing, i just always gauge how long we’ve been away from each other by how much your hair changes.”

he chuckles at your silliness, leading you over to the couch with his hand so you can have dinner together. “it doesn’t mean anything. i could go blonde tomorrow morning and see you tomorrow night.”

you tug lightly on the strands of his bangs and scoff, “your hair feels like it’s been through the fryer hoonie”

he leans into you, taking a front piece of you hair twirling it in his finger, “oh? like yours is any different.”

you ignore him but smile and begin to unpack the food you brought. “hey. look away.”

“hmm?” he questions with a hum, but doesnt say anything else and leans back into the couch to stare at the ceiling.

“okay.” you say with a satisfied tone, “you can look now.”

when he opens his eyes, he immediately bursts into a fix of giggles at how ridiculous you look trying balance five packages of instant white rice on your head. 

“hey loser,” he taunts, “didn’t any ever tell you not to play with food?” 

you scoff, sticking your tongue out and looking into his eyes that have turned into little crescents, “i bought it, i can do whatever i want.”

he shakes his head and doesn’t say anything else before sinking back into the couch and watch as you excitedly take out the rest of the food. he smiles fondly when you pop a piece of chicken in your mouth before the rest of food is even set up. 

you glance over at him and take notice of his expression, “what?” 

“i don’t think i could ever explain how much i love you.” 

you blink at the tone of his voice, realizing the underlying message that he wasn’t just talking about the food you brought. 

you pause your movements on the food and rotate your body to face him better. he holds your gaze with the smallest, but most meaningful smile. 

“you don’t have to say anything.” 

picking up a piece of chicken with a pair of chopsticks, you lean in to feed it to him, which he gladly accepts. squeezing his hand and watches as he munches on the chicken you flash a smile, equally as meaningful as his one before.
