“I feel like we might be getting off track”
What Lies Beneath
Pairing: Gabriel x reader, some Sam x reader and Dean x reader, some Debriel if you squint
Summary: The reader tries to move on after Gabriel’s death. Is she losing her mind, or is there more going on than there seems?
Written for: @gone-to-fight-the-fairies
Drunk drabble request: Gabriel, yellow, succulent plant
Word Count: 3409
Warnings/Tags: canon divergent, swearing, some sexual situations but no smut
A/N: Admittedly, this started as a drunk drabble, and after I hit about 1k the idea just stuck with me and I finished it sober. I really love what was started and hope I get to play around more with this in the future.
You don’t know why they remind you of him. If there’s any plant Gabriel’s been tied to, it’s lilies, but that’s not what caught your eye when you went looking for something in honor of the archangel.
“Yellow succulents?” Sam’s the only one to say a word as you add them to the arrangement in the middle of the underground garden devoted mostly to spell ingredients. He makes a face as if impressed. “Fitting.”
They are. They’re hardy little suckers that can endure conditions in which most living things would shrivel up and die. Perhaps its that resilience that made you go with them. Perhaps it’s the fact the warm color reminds you of how he was before Asmodeus got his hands on him. The same you saw start to bloom again in the last few days leading up to his sacrifice.
Now, he’s just another spot in an ever growing memorial as you try to keep his, and so many others’, memories alive.
A little morbid, don’t you think? The thought slides across your consciousness, unbidden.
You mentally bat at it, sending it back from where it came as you reassure yourself that there’s nothing wrong with a tribute for someone who saved the lives of everyone living under this roof.
***
It irritates you, the way no one remembers. You remind yourself they didn’t know him, not really, but it eats away at you the more times they pass your display without so much as a glance. You’re not certain anyone’s even noticed there is a memorial, let alone a central spot for him in it.
Ingrates.
The word echoes beneath your breath, drawing Dean’s attention from where he’s clipping a few sprigs of lavender.
“Did you say something?” The dent between his brows suggests he’s heard what you said, and you don’t blame him for the odd look he shoots your way. Who under the age of sixty even uses that word?
“Nobody cares,” you tell him, carefully adjusting some of the stones surrounding the plants. “It’s like none of them remember what it cost to get them here.”
Girl, u had me thinking she really was going crazy. This was awesome!!!! Poor Sam n Dean. 😂
😂 😂 Tbh, I wasn’t certain when I started this if the reader was just going to be crazy, or if I was going to go in the direction I did. I’m really glad you liked it 💖💖💖
So then you took on his whole ‘trickster’ vibe.

Darkness…
Your eyes opened…taking in nothing but darkness. Reaching over, you flicked on the bedside lamp. You sat up slowly and gathered your knees up to your chest.
In the past few weeks everything that you knew in life had been destroyed! You quaint cheery life was literally uprooted and you were now thrown into stuff that you didn’t understand. You were still in shock over everything and still trying to make sense of it all!
How did you go from a normally married woman who was a kindergarten teacher to the wife of an archangel? Your brain hurt at all of the information that had been thrown at you in the past couple of days! Gabriel wasn’t the man that you thought that you had married. Your stomach churned thinking about it all. How did you not notice that Gabriel was “different?” Obviously, he was that good at making you believe that he was just another guy. You still loved him. That would never change. You just felt lied to (because you were.)

—————–
“Mm, now don’t you look dashing?”
You flashed Gabriel a sultry smile as you ran your fingers over the lapel of his black suit, the tip of your thumb grazing the silky red fabric of his tie as he leaned in for a quick kiss before the ceremony started.
“Well, it’s not every day I get invited to a human wedding, especially as one of the best men.”
“And the fact that after today, you’ll technically be Dean Winchester’s brother-in-law…?”
“Meh, long as Cas is happy, I think I can deal with it.” Gabriel’s breath ghosted over your cheek as he spoke, his lips pressed lightly below the shell of your ear. “Besides, Dean knows that if he ever hurts my little bro, it’s back to an eternity of Tuesdays.”
You shook your head at that, pulling back to throw him a look of admonishment. Dean had barely forgiven him for the Mystery Spot incident, mostly because he didn’t remember most of it to begin with. After tossing you a playful wink, Gabriel made his way to the other side of the stairs to stand next to Castiel as Sam walked through the library to join you at Dean’s side.
It was a small wedding, just the five of you and a few other hunters and allies who could make the trip. Rowena had gone ahead and gotten herself officiated over the internet to perform the ceremony; Dean had protested at first but then saw the logic in keeping it between those in the business, what with all the paperwork that would have been needed to be done if they went through the proper channels. Dean, ever the verbose poet, managed to stumble through his vows and there was barely a dry eye in the bunker by the time Castiel had said ‘I do’ and placed the simple silver band on Dean’s finger.
Afterwards, cake and champagne were conjured up, no doubt by Gabriel himself. Everyone milled around the library, laughing and talking. The tables were pushed against the walls to make space for the happy couple to share their first dance as ‘husband and Angel’, as Dean had referred to themselves twice already. As one song turned into two, you felt Gabriel step up behind you, his arms winding around your waist and swaying you to the music. After a few beats you turned in his arms, one hand sliding up his arm, the other coming to rest on his tie. The smooth fabric was cool under your fingertips as you tugged lightly at the knot.
I’m really glad my prompt helped pull you out of your funk!! And holy damn
