What if Harry was in the year below Ron and Hermione?

[For these headcanons, most of the more intense situations, aside from the chamber of secrets, don’t happen.]

For whatever reason (maybe Hagrid didn’t get to Harry in time, or maybe Harry was born a few months later than he was in the main universe), Harry starts Hogwarts the year after Ron and Hermione.

He still meets up with the Weasley family when he’s boarding the train, and Ron and Ginny sit with him on the train. Ginny is quite giddy about meeting the famous Harry Potter, but Ron is much the same as he is the main universe. To calm Harry down from his nerves, Ron talks to him about all the cool stuff at Hogwarts. Ron and Harry becoming firm friends.

Hermione turning up later on during the train journey, and Harry becoming firm friends with her as well.

Ginny and Harry both getting sorted into Gryffindor (they might get sorted into different houses in other universes, but for this one, let’s just stick to Gryffindor). Harry becoming dorm-mates with Colin Creevey, who is still something of a fan, but becoming less over-excited about it once he starts to hang around Harry.

Harry being really shocked when Colin is petrified (he is his dorm-mate, after all), and even more so when Ginny is taken into the chamber of secrets itself.

Colin pointing out the next year that Ginny clearly has a crush on Harry. Harry being a little confused (he is twelve, after all), but decides not to bring it up with Ginny because he knows she’d overthink things (and he likes being her friend, so he wouldn’t want to make things complicated).

Harry hanging out with Ron and Hermione a lot (obviously they don’t have classes but they still are very close).

Ginny and Harry becoming friendly with the slightly strange Ravenclaw girl Luna Lovegood. Neither Harry nor Ginny quite know what to make of her at first, but they begin to appreciate her, and enjoy having her around. Both of them teaming up to stop people in their year bullying Luna.

Harry and Ginny both developing crushes on Luna in their fourth and fifth years, which confuses both of them, because Ginny thought she was straight, but she still likes Harry.

Harry letting Ginny know that he is aware of her crush on him, and that, while he doesn’t see her that way yet, he still likes hanging around her. Ginny appreciating that he is being honest with her, and not beating herself up about it.

Ginny and Harry dating towards the end of their fifth year, since Harry started to like her as more than a friend. Luna being really happy for them both, but feeling a little bit jealous of them, although she isn’t sure why. Ron and Hermione noticing this (although Ron is still a little irritated about Harry dating his sister).

Ron and Hermione realising that Harry, Ginny and Luna all like each-other, and giving them all the push they need. Hermione pushes Harry and Ginny in an older-sisterly way, because she doesn’t really get along with Luna. Ron pushing Harry and Luna as a friend, since Ginny won’t listen to him.

Harry, Ginny and Luna blurting out their feelings in unison one evening, making all of them blush (although, Luna less so, because it’s Luna). Ron and Hermione rolling their eyes in the background, but also fist-pumping each-other because they finally got these adorable kids together.

Last year, The HRC (Human Rights Campaign), reported that in 2019 alone, at least 26 trans and gender nonconforming people were killed in the United States alone. Disproportionately, Black trans people were the victims. Those I have illustrated here, do not even scratch the surface of what is, and should be recognised as, an epidemic. Now, more than ever, it is crucial that we do whatever we can to support the black trans community.

then one day this kid we work with was like ‘wHy do you have a BAD DRAGON lanyard!?’ and bad-dragon-lanyard-guy was like ‘*shrug* i enjoy their products.’ ‘bUT they sell DILDOS???’ and i’ll never forget just the LOOK bad-dragon-lanyard-guy gave this kid when he was like ‘yes, i’m well aware’ with the tone in his voice just like ‘people are gay, nolan’

Does anyone else have that one friend whose sleep schedule is like an ever-evolving mystery? One day they’ll appear to be asleep for the entire 16 hours that you’re awake, but the next three they won’t appear to actually sleep at all. Sometimes they appear to be on Australian time, other times their schedule has adjusted to somewhere in the middle of the Pacific ocean. (I call this Cthulhu time.) You go a week without seeing them and you have no idea if they’re just really busy, dead, or if their sleep has simply synced up to the exact hours you’re awake and online. The only indication that they’re still in this mortal coil is vague posts about grocery shopping that pop up on their blogs at 4:12AM. 

I’m horrified at myself because I randomly decided on 4:12AM for an obscure and horrible hour in the morning, but after I posted I glanced down at the clock and

so, earlier i saw a post making fun of the idea of kids having a tumblr prom, and i laughed too, because i remembered how silly that was back in, what, 2011? but it wasn’t all that silly, it was pretty cute, actually. a lot of people dressed up, some in character, and asked each other out, and posted costumes and drew each other flowers, and yeah maybe it was a little cringey, but it was sweet. it was well-meaning. a lot of people genuinely had fun. 

and it isn’t 2011 again, is the thing. 

this year, an entire graduating class of seniors isn’t going to get to go to prom. or graduation. at all. ever. no homecoming, no prom, no graduation, no signing yearbooks. maybe you’re old enough that you don’t remember how much these things meant when you were eighteen, and maybe they really didn’t mean anything to you at all, but this is something that until a month ago millions of teenagers had every expectation of getting to do, and now they won’t. these are milestones a century of american teens have gotten to celebrate as they grew from kids to young adults, and these kids this year get to sit at home and watch the world burn as a bunch of old people lie to each other. 

let them have an online prom. let them dress up and reach out to each other and try to find a little joy in a world that has profoundly failed them. i’m a millennial, i know how bitter it is to come of age and find everything i was promised by everyone older than me to evaporate just before i reached it: that good job college was supposed to get me, that house in the suburbs, the world that wasn’t on fire. and now gen z is going through something even worse. 

the kids aren’t alright. no one is alright. none of this is alright.
