"why doesn't this thing in a movie/book/tv show happen exactly like it would in real life" is the most brain dead criticism the internet has to offer, and yet I see it EVERYWHERE.

because it's not real life!! because tone and aesthetics are as important as narrative!! in the immortal words of cinematographer andrew lesnie, the light is coming from the same place as the music.

Also I'm continually surprised at how often life does in fact happen that way?

People do act incredibly stupidly and dig themselves into plotholes, things do break down at the most hilarious moment possible, crucial miscommunication happens all the time, real injuries and illnesses often just straight-up ignore the textbook, weather and backdrops just happen to sync perfectly or ironically with events, and sometimes someone even breaks into song in the middle of a very real street (because I know this is partly about musicals).

The aesthetic thing is absolutely true. And real life is way less realistic than we often assume.

don’t get me wrong i live for the “i would come for you” quote in crooked kingdom, but kanej just have so many good quotes that are just so sad and so wonderful and sometimes funny. like “one minute he made her BLUSH and the next he made her want to commit murder.” and “it was as if once kaz has seen her, he’d understood how to KEEP SEEING HER.” and “i can hear the change in kaz’s breathing when he looks at you . . . it CATCHES every time, like he’s NEVER SEEN YOU BEFORE.” and “that she was LOVELY AND BRAVE and better than anything he deserved. that he was TWISTED, CROOKED, WRONG, but not so broken that he couldn't pull himself together into some semblance of a man FOR HER.” and “but they TRIED. he tried. MAYBE they could try AGAIN.” and “that’s the laugh.” and “what do you WANT, then? . . . but a different reply roared to life inside him, loud, insistent, and unwelcome. YOU, INEJ. YOU.” and “give me a reason to STAY. for all his selfishness and cruelty, kaz was still THE BOY WHO HAD SAVED HER. she wanted to believe he was WORTH SAVING too.”

This is a nice video showing an blind/invisible stitch, which is quite useful for repairing tears or finishing something (ex. cushion).

Also, that extra step for putting back the seam is really nice.
