“I’m a garbage monster,” Yuuri tells Phichit, staring at Viktor through the glass walls of the lab. Viktor has not been in the same room with him since what the denizens of the lab are now calling The Belle Isle Incident. “He looks at me and he thinks dumpster decomp and swamp. I hate my life.” “You’re a very pretty garbage monster,” says Phichit, watching a centrifuge work. “A garbage monster he wants to fuck.”

Yuuri Katsuki is a dime a dozen CSI with the Detroit Crime Lab who has never had a conversation with Detective Viktor Nikiforov that did not end in disaster. He's beginning to think that the entire universe is conspiring to make him a fool in front of handsome blond detectives. The universe is doing nothing to prove him wrong.

• this is h i l a r i o u s please read it if you haven’t. 

Yuuri, given to periodic bouts of paranoia, would often wonder if Viktor is, in fact, a Russian drug lord on the loose, seeking refuge in a nondescript town in America. This would explain a manner of things: his evasiveness whenever probed about his job; the way he’d unpredictably throw out incisive, thoughtful commentary about the morning news over breakfast; his expensive tastes in shirts, watches, and wallets alike; why he’d want to stay here with Yuuri, of all places, when the contents his wardrobe alone could probably afford him a year-long stay at any condominium of his choice in the trendiest part of town.

And then he goes on to discover that Viktor actually has a premium account on club penguin, and that his five penguins are named Peanut Wigglebutt, Luke skyhopper, Zing Zing, Otto Von Longdong, and Mooshoo Vegetable, and beats the idea to death in his head.

• hilarious and well-built and cumulates to a wonderful point in the story, about falling in love and the difficulties of living but somehow finding a way to lean on someone. the writing is witty and delightful to to read

Yuuri never imagined that being able to figure skate would be useful for his job at Interpol. He was very, very wrong.

Viktor Nikiforov, as a famous athlete popular in the public eye, has received threats before. There are very few he takes seriously. However, as more secrets are uncovered and nothing is as it appears, the stakes rise until it becomes clear that there may not be a way to save him this time.

• This has a lot of promise as an undercover bodyguard au! I’m very interested into how the plot will play out, and how Yuuri will develop. The author has done quite nicely in setting up his character in this, and I definitely look forward to the next chapter. The Interpol aspect and the setup is quite believable, too.

No matter how hard he tries, it seems that Phichit 'I opened a French bakery in the same street as yours' Chulanont didn't take their rivalry seriously. Maybe Seung-gil was growing soft, maybe Chulanont was immune to his glare or he was an actual wizard. Nonetheless, Seung-gil would never, ever, tolerate Phi- Chulanont existence. (He fails miserably.)

• Still of the opinion that there can never be enough seungchuchu. A very long oneshot with pleasant worldbuilding with everyone as shop owners on the same street, with delightful interactions between Seung-gil and other characters. It’s quite cute, and the buildup takes awhile but is very nice to read. The little details like how Yuri runs a pet shop that Seung-gil occasionally dogwalks for make this story somewhat endearing to me.

Yuuri Katsuki is an aspiring film director and a walking human deadline who somehow ends up paying an artistic tribute to the greatest actor of their generation and his not-so-secret celebrity crush, Victor Nikiforov.

Things go downhill from there.

• A filmmaker/cinema/things involved with movie production au that I didn’t expect to like as much as I did, because I’m not that much into those kinds of aus. But the setup was wonderful to read, and hilariously relatable re: deadlines and rushing and panicking because of last-minute mishaps. The author did really well in integrating jargon with the story in a way that didn’t alienate me from the narrative, and I look forward to it updating! All the details like namedropped films adds to the premise and this fic is just a really solid read. 

Yuuri feels like he should remember this. Surely there’s some missing piece that would help him understand how he could possibly have gotten from “drooling over Victor’s forearms” to “boring him senseless with Yuuri’s stupid ideas for his stupid seminar paper about a serial killer who’ll probably get caught before Yuuri even takes the profiling seminar.”

No memory is forthcoming to help him out.

“You found a man like that,” Yurio says, waving a spoon accusingly at Yuuri. “ And you dirty-talked at him for two hours about murder. You have the worst game I have ever seen and you are never going to have sex again.”

“But we love you and it’s fine,” Phichit cuts in. He’s very loyal. Yuuri loves him, when he doesn’t want to stab him.

• This is short, and sets up to the promise of a much larger plot, but it’s the first part of a series, so I have really high fucking hopes for it. Characterization is absolutely fucking lovely and I love how the writer cast yoi characters in certain roles. *cries at finally finding a quality hannibal/yoi au* 

Viktor Nikiforov, a young priest from the Moscow Patriarchate, is exiled to a sleepy seaside town in Japan. There, he soon learns that one of her citizens is hiding a terrible secret - and that he is not the only one who has strayed from the Divine.

• Mind the tags, this is basically the staple priest/blasphemy fic that every fandom has. The buildup was great, the epistolary bit cleverly used to show insight into Victor’s past, and it was a thrill to read. I was cackling quite a lot through it. 

Viktor laughs. “You’re not, like, a cult leader or something right?” “Um.” Yuuri winces. “N-Not the leader, no.” Viktor stops laughing. (Or: There’s something living underneath the university, something dark and hungry and ancient.)

• Honestly everything in this Monster Week 2017 series that the author wrote was novel and super fun to read. I recommend the entire series. This fic in particular had great setup for the various developments, and I found myself rereading it a few times because it was just that enjoyable. 

‘You never eat anything.'

‘That's not true,’ Yuuri replies, hearing how defensive he sounds and not being able to stop it. ‘I eat all the time. You know I do.’

Yuuri has everything he’s ever wanted. Victor loves him. And Yuuri loves Victor. More than almost anything.

• Mind the tags on this one, please. I didn’t particularly love this fic, so to say, because when I read this I empathized with Yuuri a lot and it wasn’t pleasant. Rather, I’d say that I’m in awe of this fic, because the author very effectively portrayed the issues addressed in this fic in a way that made me pause several times to just digest what I’d read. It was hard to get into at first, but eventually I found myself being carried through Yuuri’s struggles and torn between siding with him despite his behavior and those around him. It’s a heavy read, not a light bedtime story. 
• Highly recommend because the portrayal is just... really good. It’s honestly just really goddamned good. 

A hundred years ago, Yuri's ancestor burned his estate down to its very foundations. It has stood empty ever since—until he and Mila decide to investigate, against all odds, the reason behind the fire. A mysterious diary may provide the clues they need.

But some things are better left forgotten.

• Want some horror/creepy things? Read this. It did not go where I was expecting, and I was delighted because of that. 

Seunggil thought he knew himself best, but it turns out Phichit Chulanont might know him a little bit better.

In which Phichit helps Seunggil run for student body president, and some promises are made, and some promises are, well, prom.

• I’m frankly of the opinion that there’s never enough seungchuchu in this fandom, and this fic gets their dynamic developing in a way that is absolutely delightful to read. Seung-gil’s character is very nicely portrayed in this, and his friendship with JJ and Isabella lovely and hilarious, not to mention the priceless interactions he has with Phichit that build up the fic to a promsitively satisfying ending.

One Fighter. One Sacrifice. One unit, one team, bound by a name written on their bodies. It’s a mark that distinguishes them from others, and to each other, for the purpose of engaging in magical combat.

The idea is a noose tied with red thread, but a name cannot be denied. It simply is, and simply will be. Against all alliances and all reason, there is no fighting a name—

—unless you don’t have one.

A Loveless AU.

• All I have to say is 1) you don’t need to know what Loveless at all to enjoy this fic, because the author has smoothly integrated any questions you could have about the world into the story and the plot of the fic doesn’t rely heavily on knowledge of the plot of Loveless to understand what’s happening 2) go forth and read it if you haven’t and you enjoy soulmates and magical combat.

Mila looked back and forth at both of them, mouth flapping silently. “How?” she finally asked.

“We have no idea,” Viktor said. “Probably magic.”

“Magic is not real,” Chris sputtered.

“Sure looks real to me,” Yuri said.

After falling into a magical lagoon during a once-in-a-lifetime eclipse, music students Viktor, Mila, and Yuri find themselves transforming into merfolk whenever they touch water... and considering that they live on the coast, that's probably going to cause some trouble. Things get even weirder when they discover strange powers that may have bigger effects on their daily lives than they could ever imagine.

Add to the mix a thalassophobic pianist, a marine biologist (possibly cryptozoologist) who might actually be completely insane, and a treasure-hunting Canadian... one thing's for sure: their lives sure just got a whole lot more interesting.

• Honestly can I just punt all of you over to the author’s page itself, because everything that they’ve written that I’ve read thus far has been solidly enjoyable and I’ve recced a few before. Their strange beasts (Hopeless Wanderer) series is wonderful and perfectly feels-y and if you haven’t read it, get off my blog until you do because it’s just. It’s that damn good. 
• this fic in particular is fun to read for me because the author really got the setting down. It feels what socal actually feels like, down to the beach life and the dreadfully hipster eateries everywhere. The plot is fun, the characterization is fun, and I’m hopping with excitement for future updates!

Yuuri never expected that a wild night out would land him in the same bed as The Viktor Nikiforov. He also never expected to have his life turned upside by a single golden band placed on his ring finger.

• cliche premise, but the fic is still building up to its first major event. I think it has promise, and I’m subscribed. 

Viktor was an insomniac who was lured to the door of his mysterious neighbor who liked to bake at night. One night, when Viktor took his dog out for a walk, he smelled cookies and left a note on his neighbor’s door saying how good it smelled...

• cute! Gets to the point, and is just a really cute fic for when you want some fluff. 

When Victor falls, he goes down hard.

• Introspective Victor fic that hits so many good notes. I don’t know what to say other than this was wholly worth the time it took to read it.

When the body of emerging indie director Emil Nekola washes up near the small Oregon town of Quad Axels, FBI Special Agent Yuuri Katsuki is called in to investigate. But as he uncovers more and more of the town's dark secrets, he realises that there are bigger forces at play than previously suspected.

After all, still waters run deep, and when you are haunted by your past, you will see ghosts at every turn.

• Murder mystery au that focuses on the investigation. Multiple POVs, multiple suspicions everywhere, and so much plot. all the plot. It’s really good so far; definitely something any murder mystery enthusiast should take a look at.

After losing a bet, Victor is not allowed to ask anyone out on a date for a whole month. Meeting Yuuri Katsuki shortly afterwards definitely isn't going to make matters any easier...

• RIP Victor. Off to a good start, it’s a promising-looking romcom-esque fic!

Sara thought about shooting Viktor Nikiforov right between the eyes. He didn’t even have any bodyguards, just a little girl, or maybe a boy, dressed in all black like make-shift armor and flicking a straight razor in and out. He was outnumbered. She could end this right here, had her hand on her gun already, pulling back the hammer, ready to fire.

The girl met her stare, blue eyes huge and piercing, and Sara felt like she’d been frozen.

Sara Crispino is the daughter of the most powerful man in Italy.

When she watches her father submit his empire to a young upstart from Russia, she makes herself a promise: that the first chance she gets, she will kill Viktor Nikiforov and Mila Babicheva.

• saramila mafia au, this is off to a good start as well. it has an episodic sort of feel, and even though it’s slated to be only three chapters long, it has me curious and looking forward to how their dynamic in this au plays out, since it starts off quite hostile.

Yakov scoffs in response. “If you want a new coach, I’m sure he’ll help you. In fact, I’m pretty sure that idiot would give you the world if you so ask.”

Yuuri laughs. “You know I’m not that kind of person, Yakov.”

“I know. That’s why I let this happen in the first place. Believe me, Yuuri Katsuki, if you were a lesser man I would have cut this off before it even began.” Yakov’s face turns stoic but Yuuri knows from experience that there’s a small smile beneath that cold exterior. Yakov was known to many as ruthless and straightforward, the perfect advisor to someone like him.

• Porny as hell, a little cliche at some points, but this is one of those fics I like to read when in the mood for something that isn’t too plotty, with plenty of feelings, and the opportunity for me to chill from whatever other horrifying fic I saw. 

There are two things that Yuuri notices about Victor Nikiforov as he stands completely naked in his family’s onsen.

The first being the whole naked thing, really. It’s a lot - and Yuuri does mean a lot - to take in. Honestly, it’s a miracle he even notices anything else.

The second: Victor’s heart is beautiful; a smooth, shining, pink wonderful thing that sits just off center in his chest. Yuuri aches to touch it, to see up close whether it's as unblemished as it looks.

It's gorgeous, breathtaking in its intensity, but the longer Yuuri looks at it, the more uncomfortable - disconcerted even - he feels. And it takes a moment for him to realize why.

It's empty. Alone.

• Magical realism fic which everyone has visible glass hearts, it follows the plotline with that added dynamic. Very introspective as to various relationships characters have with each other, and not a bad read at all.

At age five, all children are assessed for talent and beauty in the City of Hasetsu and the other eight cities of the Empire. Every year, five are branded with the mark of a rose before being carded off to the Emperor’s palace where they are trained to become Roses, or sacrifices to be sent every May to the Ice Spirit that lives in the castle at the top of the mountain. Roses never return, except for Katsuki Yuuri, who shocks the Empire when he appears again two years after his departure with a silver crown on his head and a blond baby in his arms, demanding the Emperor step down or face the wrath of his husband, the Ice King. But, not everything is what it seems.

• Interesting is the first thing I have to say about this. The worldbuilding has me hooked, because I love fantasy, and the first chapter has given me a lot of questions as to where all the plot and everything will go. Definitely a story that you want to follow if you want something heavily fantasy and plot-based.
