craziest thing about gaining significant weight is that people in your life will comment on it totally uninvited & they say they’re just a little concerned for your health

but they’re like, the same people who went partying with you every weekend ages 19-21 & apparently the binge drinking & no sleep & doing lines in bathrooms with strangers or whatever weren’t health concerns bc you were thin 😍

genuinely barely an exaggeration that I think a skinny person could post a photo of themselves playing Russian roulette and they’d get less comments about their health than a fat person just sitting on a bench at the city park enjoying the sunshine

If the right way is too hard, fuck it. Do it the wrong way.

Folding clothes keeps you from getting the laundry done? Stop folding clothes. Put a basket in your room and throw your unfolded clean stuff into it right out of the dryer, it's fine.

Rinsing dishes off keeps you from loading the dishwasher? Load them dirty and run it twice.

Chopping onions keeps you from making yourself dinner? Buy the freezer bags of chopped onions.

You forget to take your meds and don't want to get out of bed to get them? Start putting them next to the bed.

Can't keep up with the dishes? Get paper plates. Worried about environment impact? Order biodegradable ones online if your local store doesn't have one.

Make the task easier. Put things where you use them instead of where they "go." Eliminate the steps that keep you from finishing the task. Eliminate the task that is stressing you out.

Do it the "wrong" way. It's literally fine.

This is huge. I have been working on this for years with great success.

If the system doesn’t work for you and you’re the only one who uses it, DON’T CHANGE YOURSELF, CHANGE THE SYSTEM.

It’s not the wrong way if it works.

As an intellectually disabled person and an aac user, Ive been told many times about what peoples ideas of consent and sex is towards intellectually disabled people. I’ve been told that intellectually disabled people cannot consent, I’ve been told that we can’t have sex, that it’s not something we can do, or even comprehend. This is a very broad statement. No intellectually disabled person is going to be the same. Process the same, know the same, comprehend the same.

I as an intellectually disabled person, can have sex. I can consent to it. I can use my aac to consent. I can use my mouth words to consent. I can use the sign language I know to consent. Multi use of communication is important for me. And I can consent using any method.

Saying that intellectually disabled people cannot consent is not only wrong, but leaves a vast population of intellectually disabled people out of the conversation. Instead, rethink your language. Maybe instead say “some people cannot consent due to this or this” however, you never know. The most disabled person you know could be possible to consent maybe. You never know someone’s comprehension skills. Stop assuming. Unless you know the person really really well, you never know.

Not to mention you never know what that person could be capable of in the future. Have they been taught about sex? Have they been sheltered from it and not told about it? People with ID are notorious for not having been taught about Sex. It’s an important subject that everyone has the right to learn.

That’s all. Just some late night thoughts.

It’s Girl Scout Day! March 12, 2024, is the 112th birthday of Girl Scouts in the United States, and to celebrate, we’re sharing a lithograph of the Girl Scout alumnae who became NASA astronauts.

Girl Scouts learn to work together, build community, embrace adventurousness and curiosity, and develop leadership skills—all of which come in handy as an astronaut. For example, former Scouts Christina Koch and Jessica Meir worked together to make history on Oct. 18, 2019, when they performed the first all-woman spacewalk.

Pam Melroy is one of only two women to command a space shuttle and became NASA’s deputy administrator on June 21, 2021.

Nicole Mann was the first Indigenous woman from NASA to go to space when she launched to the International Space Station on Oct. 5, 2022. Currently, Loral O’Hara is aboard the space station, conducting science experiments and research.

Participating in thoughtful activities in leadership and STEM in Girl Scouts has empowered and inspired generations of girls to explore space, and we can’t wait to meet the future generations who will venture to the Moon and beyond.

Make sure to follow us on Tumblr for your regular dose of space!

Ramadan Kareem to all those who observe, may Allah accept our fasts and duaa and allow us growth and harmony over the course of the next month. May Allah ease the suffering of those in Gaza and across Falasteen, Sudan, Congo, Yemen, Tigray, Kashmir, West Papau, and all those who are oppressed around the world. May He grant them shifa, tranquility, steadfastness, and sabr. May He grant us the strength and ability to fight injustice wherever we see it, and victory over our oppressors.

Here is a list of resources for Gaza and Falasteen. Here is an even bigger list. Here’s a much smaller one. Here is one with resources for both Gaza and Sudan.

Here is the link to a GFM that is very important to me. Here is the link to a GFM for a family in urgent need of evacuation out of Gaza.

Here is a way to help out Sudan. Here are links for donations, Sudanese businesses to support, and brief education about Sudan. Here is a post with resources for education and updates about what's happening in Sudan.

Here is a post with resources for Tigray.

Here is a post with important information on boycotting for Congo. Here is a post with links to support Congo.

Here is a list of resources for education on various issues around the world, including but not limited to West Papau, Hawai'i, Kashmir, and Armenia.

You can check my resources tag for more. I know tumblr's searching system isn't the best, though, so I tried to put as many as I could from that tag here.

Ramadan Kareem. May every action we take towards justice bring us lasting freedom and tranquility 🌙
