We’re plowing through our 2019 reading list
Jane Bowles wrote one book, one play and a handful of short stories. On this small output rests an impressive reputation. John Ashbery called her "one of the finest modern writers of fiction in any language." This collection of stories was published by Peter Owen in 1966. This copy comes from his library, with an inscription from Bowles to him on a small piece of paper laid down on the front free endpaper. Bowles was living in Tangiers when the book was published and Owen would often use this method of obtaining an inscription from far-flung authors.
