Ater does his best to hide the skepticism on his face as he clasps the umbrella gingerly, like he expects it to burn. Though he is grateful for the reprieve from the rain, he can’t help the instinctual urge to shake the gathering water droplets from his feathers.
“More private…?” He answers after a moment, not sure if she even wanted him to, seeing as she had him sussed out. “Forgive me, but why are you helping me?”
…What a distrustful individual this one was. It’s as if he’s never been helped before.
Poor thing.
✥・ﾟ* ꕥ “…I help those who are fortunate enough to find my land, just as long as they don’t wish to cause harm upon those who inhabit this place.” He seemed okay to her so far, but hopefully that opinion of hers wouldn’t change. “Everyone deserves a little kindness, no? I don’t see the issue in extending it to you.”
He didn't really have anything to say to that, with no proof to argue against her. So he simply nodded along. "Thank you. It's appreciated." He focused on her words with a small frown. "Your land. Where are we, sorry? I wasn't aware."

Not for the first time, Ater found himself thinking over the bizarre series of events that lead up to him now. Alone, stranded on some backwater planet, trudging along next to a weird black path.
Well, that was unfair, Earth just hadn't gotten past their moon yet. It was a good try. Good for humans. But it did mean he couldn't get off unless his people came back for him. Which they wouldn't.
His gait was awkward, his species not really built for walking very far and they'd clipped his flight feathers. Ater's talons scraped on the ground with every step making him wince. Hopefully if he followed the path long enough he'd come to some sort of town. He thought Earth had settlements. Perhaps a clean water source the humans wouldn't mind him drinking from. Beyond that plan? He had no ideas.
