He looks like he’s gonna cry in the last gif. He looks like he is becoming the small, abused child again. He’s cowering before Snoke, because Snoke is just another Brendol there to thrash him. You can see he how defeated he feels in this moment, like he’s never going to escape this treatment. If it’s not Snoke, it’s Kylo- there will always be someone there to hurt him and demean him in front of others. He can’t escape his father. I think this is what motivates Hux on a personal level. It’s not just his fanatical beliefs in the First Order’s cause leading him to want to rule the galaxy, he wants power so no one will ever fuck with him again.

But this scene of the “bad guy” being hurt, abused, ridiculed in front of the men and women he leads- this is supposed to be “comedic,” because Hux is a “bad guy” and it’s HA HA HA funny when bad guys are forced to relive their childhood trauma. We’re supposed to laugh and cheer. This is why Hux has fans and sympathizers, not just because he’s beautiful to look at and people are thirsty for the actor (I mean, sure, there’s that too) but because he gave the character such emotion and made him human.
