here is how easily exploitable i am: my new job is letting me have my real name on my badge instead of making me use my legal name; when i was filling out my i-9 today, nobody blinked an eye at my documents (which all have my legal name on them). because of that, i am now kind of like "huh i guess i can't leave this place because what other hospital is going to be so accommodating"

like, obviously, the way to avoid this dilemma is to "just" get my name legally changed, but simply thinking of all of the processes involved (because i also have a nursing license to worry about on top of social security card, drivers license, etc) exhausts me - so if an employer will just let me use my preferred name, i will be extremely hesitant to leave

obviously, if i was truly enlightened, i'd just use my birth name and not blink when people asked "uh…isn't that a girl's name?"
